Art Journal

That’s the Way I like it – Art Journal

“I have no idea what I’m doing and that’s kind of how I love it” – True for a lot of areas in my life ;)

I painted with my new Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint, which Finnabair has sent me to try. I like that they are a bit on the thicker side and the colors are beautiful. I used my Batik Mini foam stamps and love how much texture they created. For the circles I used a round sponge which I had laying around and then stamped inside of it in white with the back end of a brush.

Using a more grey-ish ink I added some texture using my Cardboard rubberstamp set.

I traced some of the patterns with a black pen.

What about you , are you a total planner and know exactly what you are doing or are you also a bit of a “let’s try it” person?

Chosen Friends -Art Journaling Spread

“Friends are the family we choose for ourselves” – I love this! I was just talking to a friend how amazing it is nowadays that distance is not the biggest obstacle in friendships anymore as there are so many ways to stay connected. I love when I get a text message out of nowhere from one of my friends in Germany with just a picture because something they saw made them think of me.

For this journal spread I used the acrylic paints I made in my workshop at Kremer Pigment- I am still so much in love with them especially the copper and the yellow. I used some blue paint with my Mini Toledo Foam Stamp – I love that stamp.

I stamped with the Embroidery Stamp Set  and a white pigment ink pad as well as with a darker archival ink pad -love how the textures pops off the page.

Hug a friend today – even if just virtually – will you? It will make their day – promised ;)

Just in Case or In My Art Journal Today

“Just in case no one told you today: Hello! Good Morning! You are doing great! I believe in you ! Nice butt :) ”

Played with paint, which I applied partly with a cosmetic sponge to create some texture and then also stenciled and stamped with acrylic paint.

I wanted to see how certain colors look with my metallic paint which I had made in my Acrylic Paint workshop recently. I like the blue and purple the deep red not so much …but it was fun  trying :)

Hope you have a gorgeous day :)

NatalieI just wanted to make you aware of a funny spelling error in you post so you can fix it. I know English is not your first language so you wouldn’t realize it. You wrote nice butt. When it should be nice but. A butt is a rear end ??

Faige, thank you for your concern. If you look closely again though, you will realize that there is a smiley face behind the “BUTT”- which should indicate that I indeed meant the rear end …Happy weekend, Nathalie

Glowing Empty Page – Art Journal Spread

“I saw that my life was a vast glowing empty page and could do anything I wanted”

That is how I feel what happened to me while I was living in Hamburg.

and so I used my Hamburg Stencil and sprayed in black over the colored background. I added some off white in the middle to add my journaling.

I like how the background pops vibrantly up through the stenciled area. I added some white splatters to get an even more vibrant effect.

Living with Changes – Art Journal

I truly believe that living in the NYC metropolitan area is a commitment to live with changes! It is energizing and inspiring and sometimes also tiring. But that is what you signed up for – nothing for granted :)

I used this spread to play with the new acrylic paints I made in the Kremer Pigments Hands-On Acrylic class I wrote about yesterday. I really love how they turned out and how vibrant they are. I added some stamping with my Embroidery Stamps and marks with China Markers.

Not Your Door – Art Journal

“If it doesn’t open…it’s not your door.”

I had this template from a shrine kit (I show you that one later ) which I found intriguing and just placed on top of an crazily busy art journal spread and spray painted over.

I made some marks with brushes , stamps and stencils. A quick and fun page- and I do like how dimensional the masked off areas come out.

Every Day I think of You – Art Journal

I am sure we all have a person in life that left a certain mark on us. I had many such persons in my life and one very special one  I am thinking about every day is my step father. He was a wonderful person and influenced me in many ways. I was thinking of him when I created this spread.

He loved old buildings and antique stores, he restored old furniture as one of many hobbies and I guess my love for old “schtuff” comes from him :) He was also a very encouraging men – although …doing math homework with him was a night mare – he wasn’t very good in explaining that in a way we wouldn’t end up fighting – LOL.

His Birthday (on Independence day) was just a day before mine and so every year at the beginning of July I think of him even more strongly. He would always re-use my gift wrapping as a joke for my present  and we would laugh silly about it because you know …sometimes it was really ill fitted for my present ;) How blessed I am to have had him in my life. I think he would have loved where I live right now – I can see him taking a bike tour through the city (he used to do bicycle races when he was younger and later he joined the Tour De France almost every year as a bicycling spectator). I am sure he would point out some fun things on a bike-stroll through the hood ;)

I combined some image transfers with my Stroll Through the Hood stamps. I like it as it is and I decided to not do a lot of journaling – I know the story behind it – well and now you do too . This was a fun and a good spread to do.

Happy Birthday Dad ….P.S. I still don’t use that stupid Algebra, you told me I would need in my future life, but maybe just in your honor I throw it onto an art journal spread in the background this week  ;) P.P.S – yes I am wearing a helmet when I ride my bike ;) P.P.P.S I miss you

I love this tribute to your Dad and all the thoughts behind it!! Good for you! And yes, Happy Birthday to you – a few days early. Maybe someone will again wrap a present for you with wrapping paper that doesn’t quite fit so you can be reminded of your Dad. Wouldn’t that be a kick? :)

Open Mind – Art Journal Spread

It is always good to keep an open mind – don’t you think?

For this art journal spread I played with my still fairly new Montana spray paints. I do like their look as they are matte and result in a pretty soft look.

You can see a free video  on how I created the page and my thought process while doing it in the free classroom accompanying the challenge if you haven’t yet. You can sign up here . The videos and class room are still available until the end of July.

Not a color combination I use often but I really like it …maybe a little bag like this would be cool?

Carry this Away- Art Journal Spread

I used a poem by Tyler Knott Gregson for this this Art Journal Spread. I really love his poems- check his book out- it is listed below.

You can see a free video  on how I created the page and my thought process while doing it in the free classroom accompanying the challenge if you haven’t yet. You can sign up here . The videos and class room are still available until the end of July.

I mono printed on acetate and included the printed sheet as a divider into my journal.

Love the texture and light that the acetate shows with the acrylic paint print. I used my Beacon Stencil here.

I also did some photo transfers and created some acetate embellishments.

It is always fun to use different substrates with the techniques you know. You can find more ideas about this in my new book Artful Adventures in Mixed Media.
