It won’t be Boring

“I don’t know where I am going from here but I promise it won’t be boring”

This is a spread from the Free Artful Adventures: Stroll Through  the Hood Challenge – where I showed in a video how I put this art journal spread together. I used stencils with acrylic spray paint and created a nice acrylic resists over which I applied yellow acrylic ink.

I added some photo transfers and stamped with my Stroll Through the Hood Stamps. I enjoyed making the page inspired by the Stroll Through the Hood Challenge.

Artful Adventures Stroll – Transportation

Subway – Billy Collins 1941

As you fly swiftly underground

with a song in your ears

or lost in the maze of a book,

remember the ones who descended here

into the mire of bedrock

to bore a hole through this granite,

to clear a passage for you

where there was only darkness and stone.

Remember as you come up into the light.

I created this art journal page based on two inspiration photos I took for the “Stroll Through The Hood Challenge” . You can see a free video  on how I created the page and my thought process while doing it in the classroom accompanying the challenge if you haven’t yet. You can sign up here

I love the poem and I liked incorporating it into my art journal. All in all I am so grateful we have such an amazing public transportation system here- unless it is early in the morning and the train is full to the brim. Good think I work mostly from home ;)

Whatevers – Come on in! The Water is Fine!

A couple years ago my friends Vic Chrisman, Cat Scanlon and I founded The Whatevers, a Creative Storytelling Project. In a nutshell we decided to give old discarded photos we found a new life by telling the story of those shown. The three of us wrote an article for the recent Cloth Paper Scissors Issue – and we decided to revive the Whatevers every Wednesday this May on our blogs :)

Here is my project for this weeks’ photo

“Only later in life would Trudi understand that she never found herself, because she never let herself loose!”

I wanted to created some texture with gold gesso and acrylic paint colors and just played a bit around- adding layers, taking parts of the paint away, dripping paint

I used my Santiago Stencil with golden gesso to tie the areas together and sketch a loose person. It is a bit weird and crazy- LOL- but Trudi is growing on me ;)

Whatevers Part Three – In the Garden

“Betsy’s community garden was a little piece of happiness for the kids n the otherwise quite kid unfriendly city.” …”Rolf became a florist, Fred became a landscaper, Matt became a Park Ranger and Betsy…never stopped planting seeds.”

This spread was actually a demo page for an image transfer class I taught a while ago and I was waiting for the right occasion to use the background with the buildings for. I painted the sunflowers onto the background.

I printed the photo out on printer paper and cut the persons out and applied them to the page. I painted over them with acrylic paints and markers and then added the journaling.

    I absolutely LOVE The Whatevers! I love the creative stories and how different three people can use the save photo. I admit I’ve spend a lot of money on “Found Relatives” and then they just sat. Thanks for the inspiration to start using them in my journal.

    I am absolutely in LOVE LOVE LOVE with this. It’s perfect in every single way, I love how you added the hand painted flowers in the background. It’s stunning. Did I mention I love this? :-)

Find Your Fire !

I love making art, I love being creative, I love to craft. I often think how lucky I am that I found my fire! I would have never guessed that this is where my path would lead me in my later life. I hope everyone can find their fire!

Powerful Vision – Art Journal Spread

When I close my eyes my vision is even more powerful.

In this art journal spread I played with different collage elements from photos I printed out, images I found in magazines, advertising and paintings by other artists.

I layered stamps and stencils and I love how everything came together.

A Line is a dot…on a stroll – Art Journal Spread

” A line is a dote that went for a walk” – Paul Klee. A lot of lines in this spread -strolling around.

This was a demo spread which looked a bit sad, so I painted the areas in different colors, stamped with different stamps of my RubberMoon Stroll Through the Hood sets and then added some marks and journaling with a white China Marker. China Markers are great to write on acrylic paint.

    What great quote and I like your version of it…especially since your strolls are so inspiring.
    I’ve been sick in the house for almost a full week and I can see the buds on the trees starting to bloom.
    So my short walks out to my yard with my dog have inspired me by seeing these buds and my chicks and hens which are growing very well. Peace.

No Reason to Avoid Influence – Art Journal Spread

“For my part I have never avoided the influence of others. I would have considered it cowardice and a lack of sincerity toward myself” Henri Matisse

Some stamping with several of my ArtFoamies Stamps including my new super cute Versailles Positive and Negative Mini Stamps. I used only two colors of the stamping and once I filled up both pages, I painted with some yellow acrylic ink over part, which turned green over the blue and stayed yellow in the white off -set stamped areas.

Art is a Line Around Your Thoughts

This is an art journal spread entirely inspired by Gustav Klimt- the patterns and colors.

I love breaking up stenciled patterns with hand drawn patterns. I also loved playing with all the different shapes and doodles- it was a very relaxing page to create .
