When Beauty Begins – Art Journal Spread

Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself!

I painted the background with different blue and teal acrylic colors – also mixing some white gesso in there in between.

I layered the Versailles 9×12 Stencil on top and sprayed some orange and parchment colored acrylic spray paint over the stencil.

I love the dimension spray paint layered up can give and this is definitely one of my favorite stencils.

Get Real Girl – Art Journal

This was a little reminder for me at the time I created this art journal spread. It worked ;)

The background of the art journal spread was ugly from some scraped of left over paint – but a stencil like the Granada Stencil is the perfect stencil to work on such a background and make it work. I layered it on top of the background and then used different colors of spraypaint in different areas of the stencil.

I love to scratch into the still wet acrylic spray paint too as it gives such a nice texture.

Awe- spray paint- you make me happy.

If you art journal, do you use your journaling sometimes to prepare yourself for something like I do?

Shoot for the Moon – Art Journal Page

For this quick art journal spread I stamped some of the Embroidery Stamps onto the blank background and then painted over the background, alternating between a thin transparent layer and an opaque purple layer. I stamped again on top of the dried paint with different stamps and archival ink. For the border I used the Satin Stamp – it is a great border stamp.

I used the Chain Link stamp to create pattern on the magazine image dress.

For the journaling I used a fude pen in black and then wrote on top of it in white with a signo pen. I love stamping and covering up – repeating – the process – as I feel it makes it more interesting if you don’t know where a stamp was applied or how.

Do you use stamps in your art and craft?

Have a wonderful day!

Love this journal page! I’m participating in the #ArtMarks30DayChallenge with Rae Missigman and am loving working in my journal each day. I really haven’t made time enough to do that in the past so one of my 2017 resolutions is to get more journaling in. Love your work. You are an inspiration, Nathalie!

Focus Baby, Focus! – Art Journal

jaja jaaja – I knooooooww- but it is so hard to focus , isn’t it? LOL.

I used my new Mesa Verde 9×12 Stencil and sprayed with read acrylic spray paint over a previously painted background.

I painted over a magazine image with acrylic paints and used some pencil and pens on top.

Love the pattern – it makes me want to travel now, forget focus I guess ;)

What Makes You Different – Art Journal Page

I made this art journal page with my new 9×12 Hamburg Stencil which was inspired by my hometown Hamburg in Germany.

The “H” in the pattern refers to the city abbreviation of HH for Hansestadt Hamburg, and is found on license plates in the city.

I used grey spray paint over the stencil laid over a previously painted background

For the journaling I used the ArtGraf Varco sticks- which I love love os much and then went over the writing again with a wet brush to move the pigments.

The magazine image was painted over with some acrylic markers and pencils.

Here is a supply list for the spread

365 Opportunities – Art Journal

Love this – so uplifting when you think about it, right? 1 Year = 365 Opportunities. I used my new Cardboard Stamp Set for this art journal spread. I stamped the background with some of the stamps and then painted over some areas with acrylic paint and gesso to push them back.

Then I stamped over the painted areas again with different ink pads and repeated the steps.

I stamped some of the stars onto formerly painted deli paper and cut those out and applied those with Matte Medium.

Love the look of this – it is a fun way to create a background with a lot of visual texture.

Peace – let’s work on it -Art Journal

Peace is my word for 2017 – I wrote about it here and as every year when I chose a word, I wanted to create an art journal page with it. I used my new Stroll Through the Hood Stamp Sets und stamped all of them right on top of the background. In fact …I had just gotten them and tried them out to be honest :)

Then I used some Golden High Flow Acrylics and scraped them with an old gift card over the stamped images. I love the highly pigmented and bright look and how it still allows for the imagery to look through.

Using the Artgraf Varco Charcoals I wrote the word Peace layering several colors on top of each other and then wrote over the word with a wet brush.

I also added some of the Charcoals here and there without adding water to keep the vibrancy and also the texture they create.

The journaling was added with a soft pencil.

I had so much fun making this spread.

Be You, Not Them …or In My Art Journal Today

kalbachajbeyou01

This art journal spread started out as a demo page in a workshop . I was showing how to use the positive and negative Santa Fe and Manhattan Foam Stamp Set with differently colored StampBuddies. (if you missed my short tutorial on this – check it out here) .  A lot of the pages I show techniques on are later a great starting point to turn into a finished art journal page.

kalbachajbeyou02

I like how much depth and dimension you get when stamping offset. I also love how stamping a second time without re-inking shows a lot of texture.

kalbachajbeyou03

And I had a good time playing with the graphites on top of the magazine image. He looks a bit ill – LOL- but maybe just because he isn’t himself ;)

Hope you have a wonderful day !

Creative Ice Breaker – Morning Art Journal Play Video #6

In the mornings I play in my art journal to get myself into the creative groove and break the ice – so to speak- and get ready to paint. I recorded and fast forwarded my morning ritual for this video – and hope you enjoy it. Take it as what it is – a morning art journal play- not a tutorial.

I hope you enjoyed the little glimpse into my morning warm up play! Have a wonderful and creative day!
