Be Bad – Art Journal

Ha- lol – I am not sure if I like this or if I feel slightly pushed into a psychedelic 60s comic – but I sure had fun playing ;)

I loved mixing up a hand cut stencil, my hand carved rubber stamp and my new Groovy Foam Stamp. I used spray paint with the stencil, an ink pad for the rubber stamp and acrylic paint with the Groovy Stamp.

Once all was dried brushed on yellow acrylic ink over the whole spread – and there you go …you feel like you landed in a 60s Bugs Bunny comic LOL.

The Stencilfied Journal – Prompt 4

My wonderful friend Tina Walker is at it again – she invited several people to join her Stencilfied Prompts. The prompts are music related and each week she is posting a song. You can be inspired by the lyrics, the video, the album cover or anything related and the only restriction is that you have to use StencilGirl Product Stencils. Here is my take on Prompt 4:

This week’s prompt was She Used to be Mine – Sara Bareilles – another song I am not really familiar with …I do have a very grungy, alternative music style- but it was fun to listen to the music and use part of them.

For this Spread I started by using my Mesa Verde Stencil on top of a partly painted background and spreading a thin layer of Heavy Gesso over the stencil. Using a palate knife makes sure you can apply the gesso pretty evenly.

After the gesso dried I layered my Granada Stencil on top and used spray paint to create a second layer – i love how the two stencils work together. I used the Millie Stamp from the Actually I Can Stamp Set on a piece of tissue paper and then added it to the background with Fluid Medium. This way I could make sure to still see the background shining through but was also able to add the stamping regardless of the texture.

Added the journaling and there it is. Here are some of the supplies I used:

Discuss Ideas – Art Journal

“Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people. ” Eleanor Roosevelt

Loved playing with my new ArtFoamies  and creating a pattern using the Far Out, Funky and Gnarly stamps.

I sketched the lady with some acrylic ink on a piece of deli paper and then added it with gel medium to the background.

The Stencilfied Journal – Prompt 2

My wonderful friend Tina Walker is at it again – she invited several people to join her Stencilfied Prompts. The prompts are music related and each week she is posting a song. You can be inspired by the lyrics, the video, the album cover or anything related and the only restriction is that you have to use StencilGirl Product Stencils. Here is my take on Prompt 2:

This week’s prompt was ” Please Come to Boston” by David Loggins. I honestly never heard the song before-mhhh? But I liked the lyrics “she just said, no boy – why won’t you just come home to me”

I don’t use yellow a whole lot and with the winter weather here I felt like I should go right into this sunny color and ha- it was great. I used it over my Exchange Place Stencil  with yellow spray paint. I named the stencil after the Path station here in Jersey city, which carries people through the Tunnel to NYC. I love the lines and circles in there and somehow that made it the perfect stencil for me for this quote – traveling – coming home – taking some sort of transportation.

I used my ArtFoamies Exchange Foam Stamp with some acrylic paint underneath- the pattern is smaller then the stencil but it works well together – and I love how the purple and yellow look- nom nom.

A New Adventure Begins – Art Journal

“…and so…a new adventure begins…”

I am excited for the new year …yes still LOL

I used a magazine image and painted over with my neopastels- I love doing that when I am a bit lazy painting my own image- and the neopastels are just soooo yummie ….

I used different stencils with acrylic paints and gesso to create the background – stippling paint through the stencil and taking paint off through the stencil as well.

Besides acrylic paints and gesso, here are the supplies I used:

JOMO – Art Journal Page

I like JOMO – the opposite of FOMO. I need more joy instead of fear of missing out this year :)

Played a bit with my Van Vorst Foam Stamp Set but also the Van Vorst Stencil to create the background.

Are you content missing out on things or are you always nervous to miss out?

Winter Village – Painting

Close by my hood is an area  of Jersey City called “The Village”. It used to be Jersey City’s own Little Italy and it still has some old Italian Mom and Pop Stores and Restaurants.

I love the mural by Beau Stanton on one of the Buildings which depicts some of the landmarks of Jersey City.

It is one of those weird things where a mural that is created with landmarks creates a landmark.

I am really into the colors I used this time – I already started another canvas with the same yellow gold sienna color for the background …let’s see :)

You can find this painting for sale here in my shop.
