The Ink Pad in NYC – Thank you!

I wanted to take a moment to say Thank You to The Ink Pad in NYC – a unique and independent shop in NYC who will sadly be closing their brick and mortar shop after 23 amazing years of serving the community and beyond. This shop and its lovely owner Anna have always supported my own growing business through the years and I can’t thank them enough for carrying my stamps and stencils, having me there for product demos, hosting my book signing, and allowing me to realize my dreams by providing a teaching venue. The Ink Pad has been one of the most important NYC home bases for me and will be missed!

They will be continuing their online business here and I definitely encourage you to check that out and shop all the sales they have going on now. The shop on West 19th St in NYC will be closing Saturday, Feb 19 so if you are in the metro area, head over there and shop one last time. As a customer of The Ink Pad I was always impressed with the selection at the shop – all my fav mixed media supplies and new stuff to get excited about too. Today they are even selling store fixtures and storage items that could be really useful in a home studio too. Here is some useful info about what the deal is.

But I wanted to do a little trip down Memory Lane and show you my experience with this wonderful shop, beginning in 2013 when I came from Germany to NYC for a visit. Here was the old shop on 7th Ave:

After moving here I would often find myself in The Ink Pad hood and just stop in to say hi and shop for new goodies. Then I began teaching there – both in the shop and also in a larger space that Anna arranged for my growing number of students. It was truly the culmination of a dream and soooo much fun too.

When new stamps or stencils were released I often would do demos in the shop. It was a cozy space and allowed me to meet customers and make connections with so many people.

Sometimes I would pop in and run into other people in the mixed media industry. One time I bumped into Seth Apter there – and that is just the kind of thing that was so special about the shop :)

When it came time to release my book, I was invited to do a book signing there. Completing the book was something that I had set as a goal for myself for a long time, and being able to do a signing in The Ink Pad was the icing on the cake! Can you see I am feeling pretty happy?

So I will absolutely miss this little treasure trove of a shop. But, times are changing and I wish them all the best as they switch gears and continue on by serving the community online and hopefully reaching people from all over.

Thank you to The Ink Pad!!!

Rubber Stamp Demo This Friday at The Ink Pad, NYC

Join me Friday June 7th from 4-7pm at The Ink Pad in NYC! I’m super excited to be able to drop into this amazing store – right in the heart of New York City and so close to my own hood.

And The Ink Pad is making the event even more fun: The first 5 people to show up will receive a Moonlight Ink Pad.

I’ll be demoing my new rubber stamp sets. Maybe there will be some pattern demos and layering demos. I learned so much about these stamps just by playing with them myself. Join me and see for yourself.

The Ink Pad is located at 37 7th Ave, between 12th and 13th Streets. Drop in and say Hi! :)

Book Signing at The Ink Pad, NYC

Last week my book Artful Adventures in Mixed Media was officially released and The Ink Pad in NYC invited me to have a book signing. It was so much fun!

I was really excited and I was really happy to see so many wonderful people coming to this event.

So cool to see Kathy who I had just met a couple months ago in my class in Ohio at Artiscape made a short trip to The Ink Pad while on a NYC trip. Thank you so much – it was so wonderful seeing you again!

Can you see how giddy I am? We have this saying in Germany: “If I hadn’t have ears, I would have smiled in a circle.” I assure you …I would have ;)

Thank you to all of you who came and celebrate this special day with me and to Anna from The Ink Pad. <3 You are amazing!

And if you are not in the area but still would like to have a signed copy- I will sign Artful Adventures in Mixed Media where ever I teach in the next couple months (See my In-Person Workshops here) . Or order one of my free bookplate stickers, which I will sign for you and send out for free to you.

Mono Print Painting Fun

Next Thursday my sweet friend Birgit Koopsen is coming from the Netherlands and I cannot wait to see her. Besides some girlfriend time and sightseeing we are also teaching several workshops together, one is a Mono Print Painting class  at The Ink Pad in

NYC  on March 18th, based on a technique we came up with after we went to see the H.N. Werkman exhibtion when I visited her in the Netherlands.

I wanted to incorporate some of my class samples in an art journal and here are some samples of what I was doing last week.

The cat below is of course inspired by Klee :) and I picked up the Manhattan Border pattern in the print on the lest side with the Manhattan Tile Stamp.

I am kind of liking the idea of incorporating the prints which you do not want to hang on a wall or else into the art journal …you see some really raw experimentation with this here :)

This is the stare in my face I wake up to in the morning …ah the joy of being a cat owner- LOL

This one was of inspired by Matisse – the left is the Mono Print Painting using the Versailles Stencil and on the right you can see the smaller pattern with one of the Versailles Foam Stamps.

It is really addicting to play with those Mono Print Paintings and Birgit and I have heaps of techniques to apply to them – and you get two teachers with different ideas on this :) There are still some seats left- so if you are in the NYC area- join us for this Mono Print Painting Class March 18th or the Artful Transfers Class March 19th …or even both (special price) !

Have a wonderful day

The second day we had to move into a different class room due to a little mistake by Westbeth but due to the amazing organization skills of Anna from The Ink Pad and our wonderful and helpful students, that wasn’t a big deal and we actually liked our second home a lot – it was a real printmaking studio.
