Prima Workshop – Romantic Grunge – Video & Tutorials

Thank you so much for all those people that joined me yesterday during my first Live With Prima Show – we had people from all over the world – Germany, Singapore, USA, Sweden, Norway, Canada, Spain, England and so much more- it was so fun! The Chat was hilarious as you can tell when you see the recorded version.

Klick :)

I showed how you can create different versions of canvases using the same products and techniques. And besides some “accidents” in the background – like spraying into my “face” (I actually sprayed the part between my neck and my stomach – LOL), a falling canvas onto my head and a demanding cat – all went well- LOL

Here is the tutorial in English as an downloadable pdf Romantic Grunge Tutorial
– which you can print out to go along when you watch the video. It is not a whole Step by Step tutorial – but a short one that lists all you need and the main steps :)

I hope you liked it ! Have an amazing day and see you soon :)

Join me as I create a romantic, yet grungy canvas! I will show you how to build layers on the canvas, creating a lot of visual interest and texture. You will learn many techniques using a variety of Prima products such as Prima masks and canvas, along with Glimmer Mists, Gel Medium and Gesso. Even if the grunge look is not appealing for your- you might be still able to learn some teachiques and twists ;) I will also talk to you about how you can use the very same supplies and techniques to create completely different looks, to customize any project, such as layouts, home décor and more.

Engaged…or the anatomy of a layout

This layout was created with all the new yummie goodness by Prima Marketing for the CHA Summer Booth. I had so much fun to play with it.

*Engaged*

The soft colors of the beautiful new Pixie Collection paper reminded me on the soft and tender love of my sweet grandaunt Margot and my granduncle Hans who got engaged in 1942. The photo is their official engagement photo.

These flowers are the new Ceylon Attic Flowers and I love the lilac and apricot ones the most – all those different little pearls inside. The umbrella was cut out and then mounted on 3D Foam Square by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L to give it a bit more dimension.

I stamped the background paper with some gesso over bubble wrap – you know I love this for years.

Some of my favorites of this release must be those Resins – here the Large Window Sutters as well as the Writers Tape.

I stamped the Writers Tape with  an older beloved Prima Clear Stamp – which has a Notestamp included and then ruffled it a bit and adhered it to the paper.

The Window Shutter I treated with two different colors of Chalkboard Glimmer Mist and painted the window hinges with Glimmer Glaze

The flocking – with the “singing” and the other flocked areas you see and there on the page are from the fun new flocked rub ons by Prima. And the little crystals that you see are the cool new Say It in Crystals which come in different sizes.

Another favorite of mine must be the new letters – those white ones you can alter in any color you want…you know I love those ;)

For the window parts- which I used here as corner embellishments I used a bit more of the Glimmer Glaze – love the outcome.

So – I think this layout is pretty soft for me- but I added my typical edges , haven’t I? ;)

Old Paper Art Treasures – Or the Value of Craftsmanship

I love when you find old treasures because of a concert or something else and then you learn something knew. Just last week I learned about Lotte Reiniger – a German Silhouette-Animation-Movie-Maker. I watched parts of the 1926 movie of  The Adventures of Prince Ahmed – and what you have to know first and foremost is how this is made! But here is a scene of the movie first:

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS4jit16Fd8]

And here is how she did it – she built a table with a glas plate which was lightended from underneath. She cut out each of the figures from black cardstock and then out the figures onto the plate. She photographed each little movement of the paper figures – 16 photos a second. Look at how detailed some of the figures are – did you see the shadows of the girls in the lake- all made with paper pieces . In later years she even used patterned paper to create colored movies. Look at this awesome little movie (it is 17 minutes long-but I promise you it is worth it) about how she made those movies- it is AMAZING.

[dailymotion id=x4wc6s_the-art-of-lotte-reiniger-1953-1971_shortfilms]

(if the video is not working in here- here is a link to it: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4wc6s_the-art-of-lotte-reiniger-1953-1971_shortfilms)

The amazing thing about it is the amount of time and craft that was put into it. Today our lifes are so difuse and we are so distracted we don’t find this level of craftmanship anymore. And that is what I love about Scrapbooking and Mixed Media- you use your hands, you create something that takes time but has intrinsic value.

Have a gorgeous creative weekend :)

Euch ein wunderschönes kreatives Wochenende :)

Luca *Cocoa Daisy*

The Urban Loft Kit is really my favorite so far…ok ok….till the next one I guess ;) LOL- but here is another layout I created with the kit.

For the background I used some gesso and brushed it onto the paper and then after it dried I took the Basic Grey Alphabet in the main kit and carefully took off the left over Spacing. I place it on the background loosley – so it sticked a bit but not too much and then I sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and Chalkboard Glimmer Mist. I patted it with a paper towel and then lift the letters off again.

For the smiley face I used Sassafras Kraft in-a-stitch blossoms, took off the button – placed it on the star and cut the blossom apart ….nice hair, huh :) ?

And of course I had to use the awesome Jenni Bowlin Torn Paper stamp on the border again – I just love this stamp.

I think this is a good background for the photo of my godson holding a little surprise we crafted for his little brother’s first schoolday coming up .

Have a wonderful summer day :)

Let’s experiment in Nathalie’s Studio

I just got a pile of the awesome Crafter’s Workshop Templates created by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer and was going to experiment a bit in my studio anyway. And so I thought why not tape it and show you how studio day with just playing around looks like.

*If You Believe You Can, You Will*

I truly believe that you cannot teach a good workshop until you know how your media react to different treatments, surfaces and materials and the only way you can find out how this works is by just experimenting.  Just copying one technique that someone else showed you will not make you someone who knows how to work the media. You can still try to embrace your mistakes- but that doesn’t mean that the outcome would make a good workshop. So let me show you how I work with it and how I look at it.

[wpvideo KdHQtD5d]

So the next step for me would be to take the good outcomes and experiences from this and tweak it and try something different. And I will do this until I find something that speaks to me and says “that would be a cool workshop” (well at least in my opinion – LOL)

I hope you had fun joining me in my studio and found it a bit interesting :)

Hey Nat! Thanks so much!!! I didn’t know about customer service was so bad there… Germans seem so propper and all… Anyway, here the weather is probably as bad as in Hamburg: very windy and a bit rainy with a drop o chilly ;), luckily it seems that it will be sunny (although not warm) from Saturday on….

Sure Nat, whenever you can ;-)… the gesso… I am in my summer house right now and it’s in a pretty remote village in Brittany, so no art supply stores nearby (went to a craft store the other day and they didn’t know what gesso was – let alone clear gesso – so I ordered some supplies online (canvases, acrylic paint, gesso…) at a pretty big art supply store in Bordeaux… guess what? I received my order today, and both canvases in one of the standard sizes I ordered AND the (regular) gesso didn’t make it because they were out of stock (can you believe it?)! So nothing is too simple here, but it gives me a reason to rant about French businesses instead of the Spanish ones for once! Ha!

    Have a nice evening,

Hawaii or…Where is the summer?

If you live in Europe like me you probably suffer from the lack of summer right now too.

What better option than to try to get the summer into your studio by scrapbooking some old Summer Vacation Photos. The Echo Park Papers are perfect for this.

I wish I could go back to Hawaii right now :)

Love how you made the “arrows” with the paper corners.

Are you going in cuffs?

Leather cuffs – not police cuffs- hopefully ;) When I got those Ruby Violet leather cuffs by Prima for my CHA Projects- I have to say I was first a bit …like….sigh….so 80’s…..what am I going to do with those?… cause to tell you the truth…I wasn’t big on the 80s-fashion. Honestly! But then I looked at them, they really spoke to me “hey, Nat…..come one…play with us! ” and so I did and I really really love the outcome – and you might see me soon wearing one of those – 2011 style ;) .

For this fabric covered cuff I used the Printerey Collection.

This Cuff is actually orange but I realized you can wear the cuffs from both sides and I liked the pink side better.

Unless the armbands sported metal studs or skulls I would never wear any. But I love what you created for Prima. They are fab!
