Free Your Creativity: ARTmournal …eh artjournal

If you missed why I call an Art Journal – ARTmournal: check this post

My ARTmournal has been a great way the last couple of weeks to keep me sane- LOL. And it helped tremendously in decisions for projects for CHA. It is just so freeing to play in the journal and combining it with different other things like new media (yum yum yum…..will talk more about this new treasure soon), techniques, colors, thoughts.

and it is so forgiving because it is what it is – a journal – if I do not like what I did- I can always cover it up again …

and do something else….

Makes some fun 10 minutes a day,  and helps to get some play- and me-time:

Preparing me for the big project.Calming me down. Taking away the fear of the blank page. Getting my thoughts and emotions articulated.

And that about sums it up for me now why doing an ARTjournal/mournal .

Try it :)

Have an amazing and wonderful day…I’m off to tackle my printer…that guy is in TROUBLE ! LOL

A friend, a good friend …or catchy tunes

This layout is actually created on an old record and was published last year in the SAZ Sketchbook .

One of the things I love to use and that inspire me, is song texts or titles and use them for my layouts. One tune that came to my mind when I saw those photos of a camping trip in 1949 of my grand aunt Margot, her husband and their best friends is “Ein Freund, ein guter Freund” a catchy song.

Actually the stories she told about this trip made me quite laugh, there is a broken car, a case of beer and being caught catching fish in a private lake, involved.

Here is the song if you wanna check it out sung by The Comedian Harmonists – it is in German ;)

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35PCFQtrgJM]

The lyrics translate kind of into this

Sunny day, great day
pounding heart, like the beat of a motor
a happy goal, a happy start
and a wonderful trip;
Rome and Madrid we did.
So went life in a whirl for the three of us
by sea, by land [and]
we realized one thing..

A friend, a good friend,
that’s the nicest thing
that there is in the world.
A friend always remains a friend,
even if the entire world collapses.
So don’t even be sad,
if your sweetheart doesn’t love you anymore
A friend, a good friend,
that’s the best thing there is.

Supplies: Fancy Pants Paper, My Mind’s Eye Die Cuts; Masks and Stencil: Tim Holtz, self-made stencils; Spray: Golden Montana; Sticker: Rose Moka, Cosmo Cricket Tiny Letters; Adhesive: SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES by 3L Crafty Power Tape and 3D Foam Pads; Old Record

Today I’m once again happy for the wonderful friends I have :)

Have a wonderful day!

Baby…it's really cold outside

Working on some secret stuff for CHA booths and for Make & Takes for Prima Marketing and my workshops in California and…for this….

CHA Designer Show Case

Less when two weeks before my flights – trying to get all done …and…..brrrrr …and let me tell you, it is really COLD outside. That might be also the reason for a right ear ache.

Note to self: Wear HAT!

Besides that- and I know that is not professional to say “I am SCARED and my head is empty and my vision is there but my hands do other it differently from what I had planned” – LOL- so wish me luck that Mojo- my little friend, comes back and sits on my shoulder whispering “Dudette, it is going to be ok!” ;) But as a good friend of mine always says: “Everything will work out perfectly”

So…I’m jumping back into my studio to warm up *wink* and then rock on.

By the way….for our Creative Jump Start Summit 2012 I opened now a Flickr group where you can join and upload photos of projects inspired by the Jump Starts to share them with everybody. Love what is visible already.

Wishing you a wonderful day from super stormy Hamburg

What a Start – Creative Jump Start

The response to our Creative Jump Start Summit 2012 is making us so happy!

When I asked the other 21 Jump Starters to join and give their input on how they jump-start their creativity and share it with you I gave them the freedom to come up with their own approach. Just as their jump-start for creativity is their own approach :) I gave no big guidelines – I said ” You can do a video, slide show, tutorial -whatever you feel confident in sharing”.

I didn’t want them to be tied in guidelines that would turn into blockades.

And just as a white page might scare you….a task with open guidelines scared some of the Jump Starters…but they all overcame them and did amazing stuff!

They put their heart in there – you will see videos, you will see tutorials, inspirational speeches, ideas, photos and links. Some of them did a video for the very first time. It is all different and that is the beauty of it – there is something in those jump starts for everyone!

The response to this so far is AMAZING – we are totally blown away. Almost 4000 people signed up for this and your comments make this really a treat for us too. This is also what I encourage you to do  – for this free effort of putting everything out there- comment on their Jump Starts – it is making each one of the Jump Starters happy. It is their reward for being put out there and doing something new and different!

If you just signed up and wonder on different things, like how to retrieve older jump starts or you have little problems with your passwords etc – check out this FAQ site– it is probably answering a lot of your questions :) I tried to answer those questions myself – each single one- but I cannot keep up with it anymore….LOL – for a single person it is just not doable.

If you have been inspired by the Creative Jump Start to create something we would love to see it- send us a link, comment here with the link, share it with us on Facebook or tweet about it with the hashtag #cjs12 so we can see it.

Thank you to all of you who are part of this and for your encouragement! You rock!!!

Have a creative day and jump :)

Thank you Nathalie for putting this together! I found this thru Dina Wakley’s blog. I have enjoyed everything so far and can’t wait to see what is up next. I have been commenting each day and have started using the tips last night. Did my first art journal page EVER, did warmups and used them on cards and have sat at my desk each day for small amounts of time like I learned…Looking forward to the weekend to try the others. Aussies Rule or Gesso-Marker-Letters-Tutorial

Now that’s a title- huh? LOL. I created this layout with the new Cocoa Daisy January Tea & Cupcakes Kit.

Being able to teach 18 workshops last April in Australia still makes my heart sing. It was such an amazing experience and my students were sooo fun and creative – so that is why Aussies Rule :)

In the kit are those black American Crafts Felt letters- which I love – but after creating a couple layouts with them I was a bit tired of the harsh black (this out of the mouth of someone who LOVES black- LOL).

So now changing up the color here with a marker is a bit challenging since a) the letters are felt – they love to act like a sponge making it hard to apply markers and b) they are black – even harder to get a color showing. There comes….GESSO to the rescue ;) A nice primer- that has so many versatile uses from priming backgrounds, applying texture, for embellishments, manipulating photos….ah …..crazy yummy stuff

I just took off the letters I wanted to use and put them on a Craft Mat (Teflon Sheet will do too), so that you can easly peel them off later and still use them being tacky. I used a wet brush and added the gesso with a thin layer – it cover most of the black – I didn’t want it to cover all- and I was able to get some texture worked out this way. You can of course just apply a thin even unwatered down layer. Just make sure to not add it too much into the insides of the letters.

After the Gesso dried- and that goes quick – I used two different LetraSet Promarkers . First I painted the bottom with the darker green and then the top with the lighter green. Always better to have the darker color on the bottom so it doesn’t look awkward. Peel of the letters and apply them to the layout. Voila

And there you go – you have the black a bit peaking out- but it is not as harsh anymore- the colors are fitting to the mini letters I used from the kit and I added some texture that fits the workshop I taught in Australia :) Pretty easy and although it looks like a lot of work- it is actually not- easy peasy fast -promised!

————————————————-

Wishing you an amazing day!!!!

Words, words, words…

Words led to a fun afternoon on the first day of 2012. Words of 2012 that is. See, when Ali Edwards and others started the brilliant “pick a word for your year” idea – I told my husband about it and he loved it. For a couple of years now we talk about our words we picked for the coming year and the ones of the past year and how we accomplished it. (I’m glad that his pick for 2011 – Miles Davis – was not that successful – cause although Miles was an awesome Musician, he was a quite complicated person to deal with ;) – LOL- sorry Hon, I’m so selfish – hehehe).

So I was quite thrilled that when I picked my new Cocoa Daisy Kit  to start with a Canvas for this word, my husband asked to play along and create one too. My first reaction though ….especially my look was quite ….STUPID – kind of like those cows on those road signs – Mooo????

But hey it was so much fun – look at him going….Dab on, dab off…..

I loved it- it was fun doing this together and he …analyzing all steps of course and lacking on the multitasking thing (listening AND working ;) ) did a great job and was quite proud of his very first canvas – and very first usage of acrylic paints- he hang the canvas even :) (No show though as of his request – and you have to obey your husband , right? snigger – but, NO… seriously, you have to respect such wishes)

So here is mine

Supplies: Cocoa Daisy Kit Tea & Cupcakes, Eco Green Crafts Acrylic Paints, Old Book Pages, Gel Medium

It shows my word for 2012- transform – lot’s of meaning for me – there is lot’s of Transformation to be done ;) I also wanted to pick some other colors as usual and I have a little soft spot for orange and pink since I had used those colors on an art journal page recently and instantly started drooling …LOL

– since then I have used the color combo on a couple other projects too…so be AWARE  – heheheh

Here is the Cocoa Daisy Kit Tea & Cupcakes – love those wonderful uplifting colors. I have the main kit and the paper add-on:

“Tea & Cupcakes”

The add ons:

“Whipped Cream & Sprinkles”

“Red Velvet”

“Honey & Lemon”

The stamps for this month are so fun and playful! Cocoa Daisy has taken their stamps out of the add ons not only to reduce the cost of the add ons but also to allow their customers to purchase exactly what they want.

The tea mug stamp will be featured in the main kit.

The cupcake stamp comes as a set so you can add sprinkles in whatever color you wish!

And our instant photo frame stamps is so versatile!!

More to come with this kit :) Till then – the Creative Jump Starts starts in a couple hours- I’m pretty excited- cross fingers that the technique works and I ‘m pretty sure it will be fun and inspiring for you !!!

Huge hugs and have an awesome day

Nat

P.S. I see that Jump Start #1 is already in my Inbox, and I hopped around like a kid at Christmas! Off to check it out next. Thank you for your vision and putting such an awesome idea into motion and reality! ;)

Ooh, I love the tea mug stamp!

You should be very happy that your husband made something, even if he is too shy to have it shown – I’m very impressed. Perhaps you are onto something here… I wonder if my hubby would have a go at making something one day?
