Description

An original mixed media painting by Nathalie Kalbach, signed in the lower right.

“Dressed to the 9s” is an original painting made with spray paint, acrylic paint, gouache, collage, markers, pastels, and oil pastels on canvas. Nathalie was inspired by her Strolls through the Hood in Jersey City for this mixed media painting, and specifically a charming historic firehouse and line of elegant row houses in her neighborhood. Nat captures the details of the buildings through lively mark making and layered happy colors, and adds hints of collage information in her subtle background, suggesting a long history of interesting stories if only these walls could talk.

Piece measures 10×10″

Sorry. It was a huge shift in my life as I had my first child concurrently and my job was quite demanding. Those days only produced photos during vacations. We moved into a larger apartment on Manila Ave. But it did not have the charm of that street. I love the art you produced and I have followed your posts in strolls through the ‘hood. It brought me back to those days.

Lovely piece. I used to live in the garden apartment of one of those almost 30 years ago in Jersey City. It was my first place after college. I commutes into the city where I worked for Marvel Comics. Fun times!

Wow Helen! That is amazing. I wonder if you have any older pictures of the area – I always love to see how things changed and hear stories about the neighborhood – they inspire me for my paintings.
