An original mixed media painting by Nathalie Kalbach, signed in the lower right.
“The Lombard” is an original painting made with spray paint, acrylic paint, gouache, ink, pencil, markers, pastel, and collage on canvas. Nathalie was inspired by her Strolls through the Hood in Jersey City for this mixed media painting, and specifically this one shows a street view of the oldest pawn shop in NJ – H. Schoenberg, founded in 1895. Nathalie was thinking about how while this is type of business is a lifeline for folks, it also conjures sad feelings when she passes and sees the things in the window. These complex stories and circumstances are rendered in layers of paint and collage. The overarching mood however is one of hope, and the bright colors and beauty of the scene allude to better times are ahead, and hopefully the souls who visited the shop will be able to return once again and claim their instruments and heirloom jewelry as their own.
Piece measures 10×10″
