Description
An original mixed media painting by Nathalie Kalbach, signed in the lower right.
“Der Himmel über Berlin” (“Sky over Berlin”) is an original painting in acrylic paint, acrylic ink, spray paint, marker and charcoal on canvas. This painting was inspired by the gorgeous city of Berlin, a favorite destination for Nathalie while she was still living in Germany. It was also inspired by the Wim Wenders Movie titled “Wings of Desire”. The movie is about invisible, immortal angels who inhabit densely populated Berlin and listen to the thoughts of the human residents and comfort those who are in distress, feel alone and isolated. Throughout the history of Berlin there are definitely many thoughts which these angels could have heard, and certainly many who have needed comfort – something Nathalie pondered while making this painting.
The brilliantly hued sky and cityscape are Nathalie’s signature style, and the lively brushwork sets the scene for a place that is definitely more than it first appears.
This piece is also featured in Nathalie’s book Artful Adventures in Mixed Media.
Piece measures 9″ x 12″
Note: this painting comes framed in a simple wooden shadowbox
