Bei One Little Word (OLW) gab es als Inspiration das Wort Pur/Rein. Ich habe das erste Mal mitgemacht und überraschenderweise sogar gewonnen – ein nettes Kit. Bin ganz baff!

Also diese Woche hat Emily aber eine wirkliche Herausforderung gestellt – etwas zeichnen – hahahahaha- ich bin der weltschlechteste Zeichner – das ist ja wohl ein Scherz. Nun – gut- Du hast es so gewollt- hier die einzigen beiden Krickelkrackel-Dinger die ich erkennbar hinkriege – Katze und Punk :-)

This week Emily posted a true challenge – to draw something – hahahahaha- I’m the worst drawer in the world – that is such a joke. Well – ok – you wanted it – these are the only scribble scrabble drawings I manage in a way others might get them – cat and punk :-)

Am Wochenende waren wir bei einer schönen Hochzeit von Freunden – der Bräutigam ist mit meinem Mann in einer Band und es gab einen klasse Auftritt. Die Kids waren das Beste – sie waren total fasziniert – fand ich klasse. Und das Highlight war die Hochzeitstorte die Liz gezaubert hat – wahnsinn!!!! Das Brautpaar und auch die Gäste waren begeistert ;-)

This weekend we had been at a friend’s wedding -the groom is in the band of my DH and they had a really cool gig. The kids were the cutest – they were totally faszinated by the music- I loved that. And the highlight was the cake which was made by my friend Liz – awesome!!!! The bridal couple and the guests were totally in Love with it! :-)

For the Scrapmuse Photo-Challenge: How do you move around at the place you live? Meaning – what kind of transportation you use – it doesn’t have to be the one you always use or need – like a car – it might be the one you sometimes use – like a bike. Take a picture of it – your bike, your car, your feet, your ferry, your lorry, your motorbike, your lawn mower, your skateboard – you get the picture, right?

Ich laufe normalerweise überall hine – aber manchmal fahre ich auch mit der U-Bahn – und die U-Bahn ist manchmal auch eine ÃœbergrundbahnÂÂ in Hamburg – so wie in diesem Foto – hier auf einer Brücke in der Nachbarschaft.

I usually walk everything – but sometimes I use the underground for longer ways – and the underground is sometimes overground – as in this picture- here it goes over a bridge.

Ich liebe die U-Bahn in Hamburg. Sie geht so schön am Hafen entlang und es mach dann Spaß nach draußen zu schauen – außerdem liebe ich die Leute in der Bahn zu beobachten und mir Geschichten über sie auszudenken.
I love the underground in Hamburg- it goes overground at the harbour and it is fun to look outside. I also like looking at the people in the train and make stories up about them.

Im Moment kann ich nicht viel zeigen – die Vorbereitungen für den Workshop laufen auf Hochtouren und auch einige andere Dinge wollen leider nicht mehr aufgeschoben werden ;-) Aber ein paar kleinere Bilder kann ich Euch zeigen – das sind Karten, die ich für einen Swap mit Kimmy, Liz, Andrea, Daniela und Christiane gemacht habe – und das coolste ist…ich kann die Karten alle in zwei Wochen persönlich übergeben – yeah!

I can’t show much right now – the workshop preparations are taking a lot of time and also some other things can’t be postponed anymore ;-) But I can show you some little things – these are cards for a swap with Kimmy, Liz, Andrea, Daniela and Christiane – and the coolest about this is…I can give them the cards personally in two weeks – yeah!

Sie sehen in Wirklichkeit viel besser aus – :-) LOL .

Oh man – diese Karte war genau das richtige heute….lol – wenn ich bloß die bunte Tür finden könnte ;-) Nein ernsthaft – es gibt Tage, da geht einfach alles schief – egal – das Leben ist schön, morgen wird es besser und heute abend gehe ich durch die bunte Tür des Träumens von besseren Tagen – gacker.

I love her work which incorporates a lot of paint and mixed media elements. This interview was slightly different from my others- as we did an online chat which was fun, interesting and amazing. Here are parts of our conversation:

Ich liebe Vivians Arbeiten, die eine Menge Farbe und Mixed-Media-Elemente mitvereinen. Dieses Interview ist ein wenig anders als die anderen – wir haben diesmal online gechattet, was lustig, interessant und großartig war. Hier sind ein paar Auszüge aus unserer Konversation:

Viv, tell me a little bit about yourself- about going from the Netherlands to Australia.
Viv erzähl uns ein wenig über Dich selbst- wie war es von den Niederlanden nach Australien zu gehen.

Well, it’s all because of my husband really. ;) He is Australian and when we met, 8 years ago I was about to leave for Canada when he said: why don’t you come and travel to Australia with me? I’d love to show you ‘my country’…

Nun ja, ist alles die Schuld meines Mannes ;) Er ist Australier und als wir uns vor acht Jahren trafen, wollte ich gerade nach Kanada auswandern. Er meinte dann: Wieso kommst Du nicht und reist mit mir durch Australien? Ich würde Dir gerne mein Land zeigen.

I guess you loved the country then :-)
Ich nehme mal an, Du hast Dich in das Land verliebt :-

:) lol there’s more to it. My parents in law gave us a great present for our wedding, a “panel- van” which took us a looooong way around Australia… but it’s a big place -as you know- and halfway through our travels our car broke down. After all this travelling we had no monies to fix it! So we kind of had to stay, find jobs and so on and so forth… ;) then I really started to love the place! It’s an amazing place, definitely one of my favourite places on Earth!

LoL da hängt mehr dran. Meine Schwiegereltern gaben uns ein tolles Hochzeitsgeschenk, einen Kasten-Wagen, der uns ziemlich weit herum brachte in Australien aber es ist ein riesiges Land, wie Du weißt und auf dem halben Weg unserer Reise machte der Wagen schlapp. Nachdem wir soviel unterwegs waren, hatten wir keine Knete mehr das Auto reparieren zu lassen! Wir mussten also da bleiben, einen Job suchen und so weiter und so weiter:-) dann fing ich wirklich an diesen Ort zu lieben! Es ist ein faszinierendes Fleckchen Erde, definitiv eines meiner Lieblingsflecken auf der Erde!

Well – I guess that is a good reason. LOL. But also cool that you started loving the country!!! When did you start scrapbooking – and how were you drawn into that hobby?

Nun, ich nehme and, das ist ein gutter Grund LOL. Es ist auch grandios, dass Du das Land nunmehr liebst!!! Wann hast Du mit den Scrapbooken angefangen und wie wurdest Du auf dieses Hobby aufmerksam?

When I was pregnant with Jameela (she was born late 2002) I went to pre-natal classes and met a girl, we became instant friends. Emily (Falconbridge) was SOOOO enthusiastic about this hobby of hers… She said I just HAD to see it… ;)

Als ich mit Jameela schwanger war (sie wurde Ende 2002 geboren), ging ich zu einem Geburtsvorbereitungskurs und traf dort ein Mädchen  wir wurden sofort Freunde. Emily (Falconbridge) war sooooo enthusiastisch wegen ihres Hobbies sie meinte ich müsste es mir nur anschauen “ unbedingt” ;-)

Get out- so you met Emily and she got you into this hobby?
Ach Quatsch- Du hast Emily getroffen und sie hat Dich zu diesem Hobby gebracht?

Yes exactly! And to be honest; if it wasn’t for her (even back then) funky style I don’t think I would have been interested…
Ja, genau! Und um ehrlich zu sein, wenn es nicht ihr selbst damals schon funky Stil gewesen ware, wäre ich nicht im Mindesten interessiert gewesen.

Have you been into mixed media art or something like that before?
Hast Du Dich schon vorher für Mixed Media Art oder ähnliches interessiert?

Yes, I have always been playing with paint and different sorts of stuff.
Ja, ich habe schon immer mit Farbe und unterschiedlichen Medien gespielt.

Would you show us your first layout and tell us a bit about it?
Zeigst Du uns Dein erstes Layout und erzählst uns ein wenig darüber?

lol… i’m almost on the floor laughing! You really want me to? Ok cool!
LOL ich liege vor Lachen auf dem Boden! Willst Du das wirklich sehen? Ok Cool!

The first ever page I did is the one featuring Jordan our cat. :) I’m honestly cracking up here as I remember showing Jase (my husband) and all he said was: “yeah that’s a bit simple” :) lol

Die erste Seite, die ich jemals gemacht habe, war zu Ehren unserer Katze Jordan.:-) Ich könnte mich immer noch bekrümeln, wenn ich daran denke, wie ich meinem Mann Jason das Layout zeigte und er so etwas wie: yeah, das ist ein wenig simpel , sagte. LOL.

So, yeah, I started 8.5×11″ Very unusual I believe..;)

That is cool – did you ever do 12 x 12?
Das ist cool , hast Du jemals 12×12 gescrappt?

When I started doing assignments for the Dutch “Creatief met Foto’s” they would only publish 12×12″… So they challenged me and I love challenges so… I started doing 12×12″

Als ich anfing Auftragsarbeiten für die holländische Zeitung Creatif met Foto zu machen, wollte diese nur 12×12 Layouts veröfentlichen. Sie forderten mich heraus und ich liebe Herausforderungen, also begann ich 12×12 zu scrappen.

So what is your favourite size- if you have one?
Was ist Deine Lieblingsgröße falls Du überhaupt eine hast?

no favourite size really, depends on the mood I am in or what I’d like to bring across.. I really enjoy 8×8″ but also landscape 8.5×11″ if that makes sense
Es gibt keine Lieblingsgröße, es kommt darauf an, in welcher Stimmung ich bin oder was ich rüberbringen möchte. Ich mag wirklich 8×8 aber auch Querformat 8,5×11 wenn das Sinn macht.
What is scrapbooking for you? Do you do it for preserving memories or is it more an expression for yourself? I ask as this seems to be a big dividing term nowadays :-)
Was ist Scrapbooking für Dich? Scrappst Du um Erinnerungen zu bewahren oder ist es mehr ein Ausdruck Deiner selbst? Ich frage dies, weil es zu Zeit eine große Diskussion darum zu geben scheint :-)

A bit of both, but mainly as creative expression. I love photography, words, trying to put down a piece of myself onto a page or project… It seems to be a big journey though, and takes me to all sorts of places (within my head) I never even knew existed! ;)
Es ist etwas von beidem, aber hauptsächlich um mich kreativ auszudrücken. Ich liebe Photographie, Worte und es zu versuchen ein Stück meiner selbst auf ein Papier oder ein Projekt zu bringen es scheint eine große Reise zu sein und bringt mich gedanklich an Orte von denen ich niemals wusste, dass sie überhaupt existieren.

Do you have the feeling first and start out with a layout or do you grab a photo and just see where everything leads you? Or …simple: What is your starting point for a layout?

Hast Du erst ein bestimmtes Gefühl und beginnst dann mit einem Layout und schnappst Du Dir ein Photo und schaust, wo Dich dieses hinführt?…oder einfach gefragt: Wie fängst Du mit einem Layout an?

:) Seems to be different every time. When I want to tell a story or express certain emotions I start with the pictures for sure. Slowly (or fast!) I then add whatever I feel the need to. But sometimes I have sponsored work and then of course I need to keep the product in mind when starting a page. When I put together an article I keep other things in my mind, like how it will all work together, to bring my point across. Makes sense?

Das scheint jedes Mal unterschiedlich zu sein. Wenn ich eine Geschichte zu erzählen habe oder eine bestimmte Emotionen ausdrücken möchte, fange ich auf jeden Fall mit den Photos an. Langsam (oder schnell!) füge ich hinzu, was immer ich für notwendig erachte. Aber manchmal habe ich gesponserte Arbeiten zu verrichten und dann versuche ich das Produkt im Auge zu behalten wenn ich ein Seite beginne. Wenn ich einen Artikel schreiben versuche ich andere Dinge wie die Gesamtwirkung im Auge zu behalten, um meine Absicht zu verdeutlichen. Macht das Sinn?

Yes – of course! Do you think your layouts do differ in style when you work for a magazine/sponsored work to when you scrap just for yourself? If so how?

Ja, klar! Denkst Du also Deine Layouts sind vom Stil her unterschiedlich wenn Du für ein Magazin etc. arbeitest zu denen die Du nur für Dich machst? Wenn, wie?

I don’t think so, because I always try to make the product ‘mine’, give my own twist to it. At the moment I create mainly for Scrapbook Creations and they give me all the freedom to get my style out there, which I am very grateful for. If anything is different it would be the rough edge I like in stuff that’s just for me and that I try to keep for me. Stuff for magazines need not be too confronting.

Ich glaube eigentlich nicht, weil ich immer versuche dem Produkt meinen eigenen Stil zu verpassen. Zur Zeit arbeite ich überwiegend für Scrapbook Creations and sie geben mir all die Freiheit meinen Stil zu verwirklichen, wofür ich sehr dankbar bin. Wenn es einen Unterschied gibt, dann sind es Dinge, die möglicherweise andere konfrontieren könnten, die ich aber nur für mich behalten möchte. Arbeiten für Magazine müssen nicht zu konfrontierend sein.

Vivian, we do see a lot of freestyle elements, like mixed media, paint and every day things on your layouts – what does it make you so interested in doing this style and using this things?

Vivian, wir sehen eine Menge Freestyle Elemente, wie Mixed Media, Farben und Alltagsdinge auf Deinen Layout,  was reizt Dich so an diesem Stil und dem Gebrauch der Materialien?

oh goodness…um.. let me think. What a great question. I think it is my imagination which seems to like thinking outside the square. I seem to take a different approach to stuff, not only in my pages and projects but also in my life.

Oh wow- mmmh laß mich nachdenken. Was für eine tolle Frage. Ich denke es ist meine Vorstellungskraft, die es mag einfach mal über Grenzen hinweg zu denken. Ich scheine Dinge immer anders anzugehen als Andere, nicht nur in meinen Arbeiten, aber auch in meinem Leben allgemein.

Ok – Do you think that what you do is art? And what is art for you?
Ok – denkst Du, daß das, was Du machst Kunst ist? Und was ist Kunst für Dich?

lol i think ‘art’ is such a serious term. I sure feel like I am an artist but that doesn’t necessarily mean I create art…. :) Art to me means expression – pure expression. I think if a creation touches someone else (who is not necessarily related to the artist) I reckon it can be classified as ‘art’. Maybe it’s better to say to me art is expressed emotion

LoL  ich denke, Kunst ist so ein ernster Begriff. Ich fühle mich wie ein Künstler, aber das bedeutet nicht, dass ich Kunst kreiere :-) Kunst bedeutet für mich Ausdruck, reinen Ausdruck. Ich denke wenn eine Kreation einen anderen berührt (jemanden, der nicht unbedingt mit dem Künstler verbunden ist), kann diese als Kunst klassifiziert werden. Vielleicht ist es besser zu sagen, dass Kunst für mich ausgedrückte Emotionen sind.

well a lot of emotion out there goes totally unexpressed doesn’t it? How are you supposed to survive as a human being not expressing your emotions?
Nun eine Menge Emotionen die es gibt, bleiben völligen unausgedrückt, oder nicht? Wie soll man als ein Mensch überleben, wenn man seine Emotionen nicht ausdrückt?

Vivian, it was so much fun to chat with you. Is there anything you would like to add?
Vivian, es hat so viel Spa߸ gemacht, mit Dir zu chatten. Gibt es etwas was Du gerne hinzufügen möchtest?

The only other thing I’d like to say is: Whatever you do, whatever your creations are, whatever style you like, don’t EVER let anyone make you feel it’s not good or worth it. Because every creation is worth it. And have fun with it. PLAY. Don’t worry about the outcome too much, but enjoy the process. Let go of perfectionism. Das einzige, was ich noch sagen möchte, ist, was immer Du tust, was immer Deine Kreationen sind, welchen Stil auch immer Du magst, denke NIEMALS aufgrund eines anderen Menschen, dass Deine Kreationen nicht gut oder wertlos sind. Weil jede Kreation wertvoll ist. Und habe Spaß damit. SPIELE. Sorg Dich nicht zu sehr darüber, was das Ergebnis sein wird, aber geniesse den Prozess. Vergiss den Perfektionismus.

Und weiter geht es mit der Scrapmuse Photo-Challenge – hier Nummer 2 – ein Foto über etwas, das charakteristisch ist für Deine Umgebung in der Du wohnst. Das kann ein Denkmal, ein Fluß, eine bestimmte Pflanze, irgendetwas sein. Ihr wisst schon was ich meine ;-)

This time I would like to see a trademark/landmark of the area of yours. Something you see everywhere from where you are or something that you would say is a trademark for your area. Like say certain bushroses in Oregon, or a hill, a river near by, maybe an artist has his stuff all over and this is a trademark ….I guess you get the picture ;-)

Hier ist mein Foto – aus dem Fenster meines Büros geschossen – wie Ihr seht, ist das Wetter einfach wunderschön zur Zeit – LOL

Here is my picture for this challenge – it is taken out of my office window – as you see the weather is just beautiful – LOL

See the tv-tower on the left hand side – that is the trademark for the district I live in Hamburg – I can see it from my window at home, from work – everywhere I go I can see it. At night it has nice lights on – sometimes they have a lasershow at night up there and sometimes at day time they do have bungee jumping (arrrrgghh – LOL)

For those of you interested what the weird building on the right side is: it is a World War II bunker (18thousand people could find shelter inside) – the bunker was way to solid and right in the middle of the city to get rid (they demolished several smaller ones) of it after the war, but now it is a media center. There are music stores inside, bands are rehearsing there, photo-studios and so on.

Was sonst …ach ja…mmmh – ich kann einfach nicht an einem Künstlerbedarf-Laden vorbeigehen – und im Kopf hatte ich diese Serviette von Ikea als ich die Farben aussucht – verrückt oder?

What else…ah yes…mmmh – I just can’t walk past an art supply store – and in mind I had this napkin from Ikea while I chose the colors – crazy isn’t it?
