Crafter’s Workshop Stencil Blog Hop – Numero Due
sooo thrilled to be again part of the Blog Hop for Julie Fei-Fan Balzer …I just love her wonderful release of Crafter’s Workshop’s Julie Fei-Fan Balzer Stencils. Here is my work with the featured Stencil Circles in Squares:
Glow Canvas:
Somehow the Stencil gives me an 80’s flashback- so I wanted to do something that goes with the 80s for me…colorwise and pattern wise:
I glued down some book pages to a 12 x 12 canvas, put the Circles in Squares Stencil on top and used black Gesso over it. I applied quite a lot- so it actually covered the whole stencil and not just the areas without plastic. Then I lifted the stencil and used here and there a grid tool to add some LP-like patterns to it (for those young folks like my 11 year old god son: – those vinyl round thingies you find in your parents livingroom close to the dinosaur music hifi tower – they are not frisbees…oh wait…you might not know what frisbees are either…never mind ;) )
It is a bit hard to see in the photograph – so the first layer of the dark gesso has then the structure of the Stencil here and there included.
I waited then several hours until the Gesso was ALMOST dry – when I poked my tiny sausage fingers in and ripped the rubber like gesso here and there off. I pulled it up a bit too – so that it bend upwards and created little wholes revealing the book paper underneath. Because that is the coolest part- it dries in a way that it is not totally ruining the book paper underneath. So far as I tried it only works with the Golden Black Gesso – it is a matter of thickness and binding stuff in there :)
Then I sprayed some Inchworm Chalkboard over the wholes- nice neon color….pops even more on the black and goes very well with the 80s theme- LOL
Then I mixed some yellow and red acrylic paints and created a darker shade of orange and dabbed this first over the Circles in Squares Stencils, then just red and then just to get some contrast three circles in squares- with white gesso.
Some found objects…voila- done :)

The light bulb is a found from a Junk Yard in Australia- I believe it has been part of older – probably 60s christmas lights – but i’m not sure. So yes the light is already been green :)

WoW – Words of Wisdom
This weekend we celebrated my beloved grand aunt Margot’s 92nd birthday and as always it was inspiring and wonderful to spent time with her. My aunt is not only incredible fit for her age, but she is also pretty funny and witty. I guess the way of laughing out loud with a big open mouth is passed down to me ;) She has to be the most generous, honest and open hearted person I know and although her life wasn’t always an easy one, she the happiest and most optimistic person you can imagine.
Every time we celebrate her birthday there are less and less friends around because that is what happens when you get older. But the laughter about stories from the past and people long passed away are always one of my favorite at this parties. And then there were these words of wisdom yesterday that WoWed me away:
My sweet aunt Waltraud looking at me all of a sudden and saying: ” Awful, all of us old people only live in memories, we are not experiencing anything new”
My aunt Margot patting me from the side saying in response to this: ” Oh, it is not that bad, just make sure NOW it is going to be wonderful memories ”
Cheers to you Aunt Margot- you are so right and as you are my role model, I will make sure to follow your words of wisdom! Love you!

Go Go Go or…Burlap Fun
I used some of the awesome Canvas Corp Burlap and just played a bit around with different media. just love the look and feel of burlap – raw and natural looking.
I used different structure pastes and stencils- from non course to super course molding paste. I used a huge amount of our colors – here are a few: Stiletto Glimmer Glam, Orange Crush Glimmer Glaze, Dirty MartiniGlimmer Glam, Cupid Glimmer Mist, Afraid of the Dark Glimmer Mist, Monster Mash Glimmer Mist, Icicle Blue Glimmer Mist.

I love how the Glimmer Glam and Glaze seals the burlap too

Art Journaling Pages – or ARTmournal
Here are my first December Week Art Journal Pages or as I would like to call them
ARTmournals.
I am not a big person on journaling in my artwork – I usually get my feelings and emotions on the page/project out by colors, little word snippets and techniques and texture. If you look at my work you will notice that I do not journal a lot. I guess that was the problem that I had the longest with doing an Art Journal- I had the feeling I would have to write a lot. Don’t get me wrong- I love writing but more in an old fashioned diary form.
Getting my emotions and feelings out there in an artsy way on the other hand I enjoy a lot, it is relieving and therapeutical.
So I reminded myself on my own number 1 rule: There are no rules in artwork! I can do as much or no journaling as I want- and I can show my emotions just the way I like it :) It can be openly containing the message or just hidden…up to me!
I used some paper and tags from the Cocoa Daisy December kit as well as some tissue paper. And it was written on a day I made a decision – I walked away from something that others’ might think I am crazy to do…but it was good :) and I have my reasons
for dimension and to blend in the papers I used some Neocolors II – love them!
here I also used the Cocoa Daisy Kit and used the fun Doilies in the kit to get some texture to the background. The Germans here might laugh about the journaling ;)
There is a german expression which doesn’t translate very well – it basically says “that life is not a concert played as you wish” meaning things just do not go the way you want them to go. And then there is another expression for people that are mean idiots – literally translated they are “bum fiddles” ….so those to expressions went well together . “Life is not a concert on demand, some people are bum fiddles, just let them go” Not sure if that makes sense in English – some things just do not translate ;)

Love it and I love that I somehow found a new way to it- it clicked between me and my ARTmournal…my journal said “hey ho let’s go girl “. Before it just said…”don’t ruin the nice book” so I went and rather ruined a canvas ;) Now I just mourn on ;)

Ohhh…. I just love your pages!!! And i totally agree – there are NO rules! Do whatever you want and feel! I have no rules or any special type of journaling, if my head screams for lots of journaling, my page is full of words. But sometimes a page is just colors and pant. Someone told me (at a AJ-class) that there are no rules, and I’m a loyal student so thats my rule – there are no rules ‘lol’

Christmas Ornament Tag Tutorial
For the Norwegian Magazine ScrappeHuset and their Adventscalendar on the blog I created this Christmas Tag with a mini tutorial. Thank you girls for the honor of sharing my work with you!
For this tag I used an old vintage wooden sheet – I think it was part of a game as it has numbers engraved. I painted the wooden piece partly with acrylic paint and before all paint dried I sprinkled Platinum Utee on top and heated it. I attached a piece of Paper Tissue Tape and a ribbon. Then I stamped on a piece of patterned paper with a star stamp and embossing ink, sprinkled with clear utee, heated the utee and into the hot utee sprinkled soem of the platinum utee and continued heating.
I cut out the stars. I attached Cookies’n Cream and Grand Tetons Glimmer Glam on parts of the wooden plate. then I let some Stiletto Glimmer Glam run down the plate and also on the stars. I attached the ribbon, stars and Prima Rhinestones. For the Prima Resin I sprayed Tattered Angels Cornflower Daze and added some Wicked Glimmer Glaze, then attached the Resin piece and attached the Canvas Corp Twine. I painted the edges of the ornament with black acrylic paint.

I have GOT to get me some UTEE! I keep saying it and yet, I keep putting it off! I’m intimidated, honestly. But to heck with it! I love how you used it here and how it’s kind of reminiscent of encaustic art…without the torches and burned down house (as it would probably be in my case!). Thank you for sharing a quick tutorial on how to use it. I do have one question. You can zap it with a regular heat gun and not really need the Melting Pot right? Thanks again!

ohhh Utee is soooo amazing- I love it!!! Don’t be intimidated! It is really easy to handle. It just takes a bit longer to melt and that you can do with a normal heating gun. It is thicker so if you use stamped images those shouldn’t be too detailed as Utee when melting starts loosing up the form. Have a gorgeous day nat

Love this new Cocoa Daisy December Kit – it was lot’s of fun to work with it. I had the Main Kit, Patterned Paper Add On as well as the Frosty Windowpan Add on.
Snow Fire
Last year’s photo from a snow fire in New Jersey when the crazy snow storm started. I loved the background paper but to tune it down a bit I painted it with white acrylic paints and stamped the background to blend it back in a bit again.
I crumbled some of the grey tissue paper in which the kit was packed and used it also to stack up the embellishment.
Home Sweet Home
Well- our kitty is definitely making our home … homely- although with this fresh face he looks more as if he is REALLY annoyed by us being home- LOL.
I painted the stamped chair with some Letraset Markers in the same colors I found on the papers to have the look more unified.
