Über-Californication-Jump-Case

After indulging the last days into the sweet nothing or as my Italian heritage side would say: Dolce far niente – I’m back running, crushing my heals into the asphalt, because yesterday I checked my calendar….and EEEEEK it said 3 weeks till my flight to California.

Because…if I haven’t shouted it out yet from all roofs with trembling tonsils ;) (not a nice picture – LOL) – I am teaching in California at the Scrapbook Island in San Jose on January 21 and 22. I am soooo excited and nervous and …all of that you know.

(Did I ever tell you that I’m still nervous before each workshop – yep I am – but maybe that is a good thing, you don’t take everything for granted ;) )

I am also working like crazy on all the Creative Jump Start logistics – I tell you- that is so awesome. All those posts and videos by the Jump Starts – AWESOME!!! (have to practice my California lingo ;) )  I watch the videos as they come in and it itches me to start creating right away- no kidding. It is one of the biggest collaboration projects I have worked on so far and I’m so happy that my idea months ago was received so well. All of us Jump Starters are pretty excited. The first post will go up on January 2nd after the holiday – so in exactly one week.

Also working full time on my Über*Media Gesso Class – a five week Online Class starting January 15th, 2012. There is so much in this – it is ÜBER full with techniques from easy to intermediate to advanced :) check it out here:

That is like a TV- Jingle show here- hahaha. And last but not least I’m working on my Designer Showcase at CHA – so it is out- I said it….no backing from this one. That is actually maybe the scariest of all the named projects I’m working on right now- LOL. That and the boxes that are piling here for projects for CHA for some booths – so …I better get going! My Top Ten Layouts 2011

I hope you had some wonderful and fantastic days!!! We had a relaxed and magical time

Like many others at the end of the year I go back through my layouts, projects and photos and take a look at them again to pick my favorites. I realized the past years that it is such a wonderful way to remember good times and treasure work I have done :) So here we go – first the Layouts :)

 

 

It was definetly a year of emotional layouts…but when I look at this roller coaster year- it is no wonder :)

Tattered TV – Christmas Frame Video & Tutorial

It's time for ARTmournal again

I am really enjoying my ARTmournaling right now- so much fun to have the book right next to me while doing other stuff and then adding things here and there :)

I like the texture here and the colors…oh wait…it is my colors anyway- hahahah- no wonder ;)

This page was nice until I did the following side on the back- seeped through…well…let’s pretend it was on purpose.

see that photo…I ripped apart a page – GASP  – that was published in Somerset Memories…yes- Revamp the old and move on…I had to do something bold….LOL

Now that page is ….roll eyes…UGLY- LOL – but …at least I finally used this pirate ship that I have in my stock for AGES….

Love the orange contrast – noted for future project!

Used all kinds of leftovers from materials I was  using that day- not my usual colors- but hey…I like it…so good think I played- will use later in a project ;)

TEXTURE…..ahhhhhhh…..LOL- you know I love texture..so this one makes me happy and the golden acrylic paint by Eco Green Craft is sooo cool!

I guess I had a pretty pretty good day….LOL- journaling is hidden under the masking tape- ah the beauty of masking tape- you can take it easily off :)

Simple…eh- well.. yeah.. I had forgot about the page and only those spray traces on the paper were there…so I just added the filmstrip…and now I like it…pretty much what this day was about.

CRAZY….LOL

I was working on an assignment for CHA and some parts for the assignment found their way into the artjournal- great way to try something out first.

Any guesses? Waiting at the post office….thanks to Letraset…it wasn’t that bad ;)

It all comes down to : it is awesome to play with a journal – it gives you permission to let go, try things out, learn and discover new things, put some feelings, emotions and thoughts in there and also some ephemera of the day…what is not to love about an ART mournal or journal :)

How to turn a day around…or ….blah blah blah ;)

I feel like chatting a bit…so here is a blah blah blah post and therefore it will be filled with blah photos ;)

Last Saturday my husband and i awoke and realized at breakfast that we both had a huge to-do list – and so we decided it would be again a weekend running errands and working. Until we arrived at the post office….Yep – it is the post office’s fault! In fact it is always their fault, but that is a different blah blah post ;)

We had a nice christmas package in our hand to send out to the States…and there it was: THE LINE: coming out of the postoffice onto the street, around the corner….and we know THIS Postoffice…it is the one where regardless of which day, which time, which season, only 2 of the 5 counters are occupied with staff. So we figured 1 hour waiting time minimum…and that is where we got the EVIL PLAN ….let’s just not do what we should do….let’s just enjoy the day and do fun stuff – YEAH

First we went to our favorite hole in the wall Asian place and ate a nice coconut soup. And then we met like gazillions of neighbors and friends outside and chatted like nuts (maybe that is where the chatty part stuck to me for this post- hahahaha) . Then my husband picked up one of my Christmas Gifts…I was only allowed to take a peak but it is a 60s vintage dress made by my friend Katja just for me…(she knows my measurements well and is an awesome movie and tv costume designer :) )

The weather was beautiful for a December day…look at the sky and the tv tower…I think I haven’t seen the needle in months….since it was all foggy and rainy the last couple weeks.

and now close your eyes if you have problems with “BAD” words….I didn’t choose the name, don’t blame me, don’t send me angry emails, don’t unfriend me or call me….I’m just posting where I was :)

This is a trade show sponsored by etsy and it was the coolest inspiring thing EVER. AWESOME – we picked up a lot of Christmas presents, and got ourselves some little gifts too :) I got myself this cozy pearl necklace enclosed in a fine knitted wool tube. Looks cool! All handmade stuff and soooo amazing – I did not take many photos- I always have a weird feeling taking photos at creative booths. It looks as if you are going to steal their ideas, know what I mean, but I guess that is just me?

Oh I can’t wait till next year again – I tell you! And my favorite was, when you talked to the designers how they made the things – and how they lit up when you told them how awesome their idea is. Because you know…there is the grumpy peeps around too, that just raise their shoulders and do the spitting “pheww- what is THIS? and why should I pay more money for HANDMADE- that is so retro”. Well..take your spit somewhere else…

Yummie beetroot-ginger-salt and chocolate cookie dough mixture as well as free fun wrapping paper. And then it was time to part….and do a little loop through one of my favorite shopping streets (small designer stores ) in Hamburg- Marktstraße.

Wondering once again when stepping along, who from city planning had this incredible STUPID idea to build the convention center over this beautiful old building, being reminded that this is the way Hamburg rolls, we do not really cherish our old buildings. And then forgot about it again when I stepped in the coolest store carrying original 50s/60s and 70s shoes….UNWORN! They do get those from shoe manufacturers – never sold . Yeah – because I’m a picky girl- I do not like to buy worn shoes….but I want the orignal stuff and here we go! They go perfect with my sailor vintage dress and I believe with my Christmas present…ahem…not that I really know that – LOL

And then it was wrapping gifts and chillin’ under the christmas tree…and as I wanted to take a photo of the tree, little Niles sneaked in, as if to say “HEY….you were gone the whole day, what about this?”

So now back to work, actually I’m at the post office right now for the next ten hours…remember….the christmas package to the States? ….Hope you made it through the blah blah -LOL

    hey nat! i LOVE this blah blah blah post… just what i needed today. i know about the post office you’re talking about. you know, there is one on Detlev-Bremer-Straße, and there is never a long line, i go there in the evenings even… toddler in tow… not a problem, you get served pretty quickly. you might like a walk down St Pauli next time and try it out!

DIY Spool Ornaments

Everywhere you go you see now wooden spools- I love them. One store around the corner had vintage spools as ornaments- but I was simply not able to afford more than one…because wowser…when did the prizes for ornaments go that high?

And it was not for a handmade ornament…So ….off home and checking my treasure box, you know the one with the things where you always think…Oh I might better wait till I have a better idea for this because I don’t want to ruin it ? Well I have one of those. And in there…JB wooden spools that I have once in a while petted and then put back into the treasure box. I made my own super easy ornaments ….with them:

I attached some 7Gypsies Notepaper around it, then used a wire and in the loop on the bottom I hang one of those also long time treasured blings by 7Gypsies and Tim Holtz Love Tag. On the top I put the ball- which came in one of the Cocoa Daisy Kits- I do not really know which company they are from, since I don’t have the package anymore, then on top a Vintaj Bead Cap and another one the other way around on top.

Then I used Stickles and Liquid Pearls for the spools and put some of it into the top bead caps as a filling too. Super Easy – and yeah- maybe not as glamorous as the mega expensive one in the store I saw…but ….mhhh – I like it better ;)

Now off to run some errands for the holidays :) Tomorrow I will show you all the amazing ornaments that our Secret Santa Ornament Group created to send around the world – so much fun !

Creative Jump Start Summit 2012 is here !!!

January is approaching–a month that is full with promises, resolutions and intentions. A month that for many is following lots of holiday celebrations, family gatherings and other end-of-the-year events.

It’s also time to start creating again. But suddenly there it is for some of us: that lost feeling on how to start. Here is the cure :)

A group of wonderful, inspiring and creative women from around the globe in the scrapbooking and mixed media fields have joined together for the Creative Jump Start Summit 2012.   • 2. You sign up for a newsletter HERE and, in January 2012, you will receive a link and the password to unlock the view of the daily materials as soon as they go live
  • 3. You watch the presentations and you will be hopefully inspired to be more creative—all for FREE!
