The Traveling Artist

Back in Time, Joshua Tree National Park and how to enjoy life

Let me show you the second part of my California vacation before I finally show you tomorrow some CHA pictures ;)

When we came out of the Death Valley National Park – and I repeat again- every corner looks the different – after a couple miles ;) – we saw this cool cloud formation – doesn’t that look like a person? I thought it was sooo cool!

We did a little detour onto Route 66 on our way to Joshua Tree National Park and btw- we just recounted and that was number 16 of visited National Parks in the US – wowser. I also counted again and figured I visited so far 34 States in the U.S. – I think now I really wanna visit all States in my life :)

So on Route 66 you can find some treasures like this – The Road Runner’s Retreat

And while we were standing there, wondering when the Road Runner’s Retreat might have been the up and running place a car stopped and a  guy talked to us. He said he saw the car from far away and thought we were the owner and that he actually was looking for the owner because someone wanted to use this as a photo set (I can see that ;) ) . We asked then when this was left and he said in the 60s. Fun – I wish I could see a picture of how this place looked back then.

A couple of miles later you find this gem in Amboy

That was the coolest place ever- I tell you something, If we had had more time- I would have gotten into my suitcase to take out my vintage 50s dresses for a photo shoot. Sooo cool. The owner actually bought the whole place not too many years ago and found the whole furniture / registration area still intact and he preserves it very well.

Can you tell I’m excited about this place?

So finally Hubs was able to drag me away and we arrived in 29Palms next to the Joshua Tree National Park…and ohhhh my…another preserved place build in 20s where stayed. We had a nice cute little Adobe house to ourself- the furniture and bathroom almost all orignal furnished- which some people were writing negative reviews about- but oh gosh I loved looking into this chipper old mirror and brushing my teeth over this old worn out sink.

I also loved the swimming pool area – and the reception- original too – maybe the swimming pool a bit later. We spent some nice time there

We spent two days in the park- hiking and checking it out- it was sooo cool! we also saw a coyote pretty close while sitting in the car and chatting – but oh that hurts- I did a nice shot of its face looking directly at me  and then ….accidentally deleted the picture- I’m still crying! Here is the one I didn’t delete- can you see it?

I love those Joshua tree- every single one looks different and it was really a view I didn’t get tired off. There is something magical about those trees!

Different sorts of cacti

And some came with a warning sign to not get too close! – You bet I didn’t – LOL – cause I’m already afraid of needles and I’m a sissy if it comes to being injured by stuff like that.

And then it was time to make our way to Los Angeles- Anaheim where we met a cousin for an awesome lunch and hubs waived good bye to me. so as promised CHA pictures tomorrow :)

Due to popular demand and getting lot’s of emails asking about it, I decided to reopen theÜber*Media PanPastel Online Workshop earlier again. So as of now you can sign up again for this 6 week-long extensive workshop. It starts today on February 5th, 2012 – you have access to the classroom till July 31st, 2012- Check it out here .

What a fun adventure! Love the pictures–it is amazing the bits of history that survive. Your husband is from New Jersey, I think you’ve mentioned? I’d love to hear your love story, how you met, how you handled the compromises of trans-continental roots. :)

Graffiti, Ghost Towns and Gazillion other photos

What a blast! It is no secret that I truly love California- the more as a couple of really dear friends live in and close to San Francisco. It was a bit crazy doing this tour before CHA – but it was WELL worth it :)

We had some fun shopping and strolling through different neighborhoods

dreaming of living there and taking photos of street art. One day we will be there…or in New York…or not- LOL

Love those fishies and the black, white and orange colors

and hanging out with friends

Then we headed to San Jose where I taught 3 classes at the Scrapbook Island. Such an awesome store and an extra huge classroom. I loved it and had a great time. Here are some girls :) It was wonderful seeing Emi, Erin and Christine then later again at CHA – I missed Laurie there though.

A special thanks goes out to the Scrapbook Island staff who did a tremendous job helping me before and during the classes and also to Christine Delgadillo – who is not only an extraordinary teacher but also a wonderful helper!! Thank you girls!

I was turned into a 49er fan this day- and was telling all I like that Smith guy in the team (they have three of them- LOL). I’m not sure my hubs is happy about it…he is a Giant’s fan ;)

We went to the Death Valley National Park – and it rained -which blew my mind- LOL -but it was somehow fun to see. I mean- it never crossed my mind that it could actually RAIN in the desert but of course, dummie!

Amazing landscape – Artist Drive with different colored rocks- I think this was my favorite of the Death Valley National Park.

Badwater – stunning! And somehow the bad weather made for some really beautiful sceneries.

We drove a lot and sometimes….to fast….AHEM – here in Germany we have radar and you get a “nice” picture in your mail and a message with the ticket about your speeding. I only knew the cops get out the car thing from American Movies – my husband found it quite funny that I was so excited about this – he hadn’t had a speeding ticket since we live in Germany- all I say is AUTOBAHN – I guess he got spoiled. Well – it was a pretty expensive excitement and for the rest of the trip we behaved!

Ghost towns – pretty cool. It is so surreal – having those buildings in the middle of nowhere.

Loved those sand dunes at the Death Valley

It always baffles me in America when you are at a place like this and every couple of miles everything looks totally different.

Are you still here? Well…hang in there…LOL – more photos from my trip tomorrow- and yes – CHA photos are coming too – but those are coming last ….I like it in order…hey- I’m a Kraut ;)

BalzerDesigns and n*Studio having a fun time

Julie and I had so far an amazing week and I’m sure it will be even more fun coming up.

(Julie’s picture :) )

Julie is learning some essential words in German – like Wurst (Sausage), Genau (Excactly), Tschüss (informal good bye), Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market), Was ist? Wo ist? (What is? Where is?), Gesundheit (Bless you) and right now she is trying to count in Germany….but I better not write it down as accomplished ;) LOL !

We had a great couple days in Berlin!

we can’t wait for our Mixed Media Circus starting tomorrow- last minute preps in full force! Lot’s of plans ahead too ;)

NJ and NYC – more East Coast Vacation

After coming back from the Cape we spent another day with our family and I even managed to sneak out with my fun sister in law to Frenchtown to visit Two Buttons an awesome store owned by the writer Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Love, Pray and others). Loved the store and there are so many more cute stores in this town – we had a great afternoon :)

We carved some pumpkins with the kids which was too funny – and yes- it was a bit early- but who cares- it was fun!

On Friday morning we took the train to NYC and met Julie for breakfast. Afterwards we spent the morning at MoMa- oh loooooveeee – I wish I could go there every month.

A little bit of shopping at Antrophologie and meeting some friends in the afternoon in the Village- perfect day – topped off with an delicious and funny dinner with Julie and her husband. While the husbands crashed, Julie and I had a chatty night…as always when we meet- LOL.

Saturday we had our co-teaching class . Julie is such an amazing teacher and it was just pure fun to work with her. We had a blast and we hope our students had too – well we all laughed a lot and the techniques looked all so different and awesome.

Can’t wait to have her in Hamburg for our Mixed Media Circus Event – it is going to be a blast. And that was our vacation then – the next day we flew back to Germany.

I think it is the first time I heard myself saying I could vision myself living in NYC ;) I have been in the City a couple times but that it was never the city I could see myself to see living in the U.S. :)

The Cove, the Cape and ….East Coast Vacation Part I

What a whirlwind trip and it was fun fun fun. We came in on a thursday and went to see our family in New Jersey and spent some time seeing friends too on Friday. We had a little birthday party for the kiddos which was lots of fun and then on Saturday I went to Scrappers Cove in Milltown. It was so much fun. I even had two German speaking girls in my class :) and I loved the atmosphere – I hope to come back next time I’m in the area ;)

On Sunday then we drove to Cape Cod where we had rented a nice little house. It was the perfect time to be there. Our land lord said he calls this the “Secret Season” – was the leaves are turning, the weather is still wonderful and there is almost no one there – perfect. We did beach hikings, watched sunsets and sunrises, bbq-ed, rented a tandem and managed to ride it even, did some shopping, ate lobster and saw seals in the ocean – it was AWESOME

More pictures of our vacation and the workshop in NYC with Julie to come :)

Have a gorgeous day

Scraptastic 2011 in Belgium

It was such a blast! Events like this just make me warm and fuzzy- LOL…or should I better say feel warm and fuzzy ;) It is the creativity ooze that is feelable in every corner of the workshop rooms, meeting those amazing students, being happy with great organization and hanging out with awesome teachers and friends. I’m tired but happy and so ready to rock the studio today- LOL.

I can’t believe I didn’t take more pictures of the covent that was turned into the hotel where we had the event. It was so cool- but me and my camera had a love-hate relationship this weekend :)

Celine – chica magnifique :) Celine is one of my crushes from back then I started with the technique nerdiness :) Actually she is still one of my crushes- but I won’t tell her- LOL

Birgit my sweet friend and best room mate – thanks for keeping up with my snoring- – hehehehe. Can’t wait to see you so very soon again :) – and Bill and Donna – they are the most down to earth and awesome, warm and fun people to hang around with! I wish we had more time together :) Still laughing about a lot of things- LOL.

my sweet Belgium girls- I had taken so many pictures also of my sweet Danish girls and many other students – but oh boy- did I stink in taking pictures this weekend.

Happy Birthday France! You are an amazing and encouraging woman- Love you dearly!!

Sharon – who I could cuddle and squeeze the whole time cause I love her so much – and thank you for a great time at the airport together with your sweet hubs :) – and Evelien the amazing superwoman – she is an awesome host and organisator- thanks! BTW – NOOO we did not talk about the clothing for the photo shoot- LOL.

The amazingly talented Ingvild during one of her classes – she had really long classes- so we couldn’t spent much time together – but maybe next time :)

I had a lot of fun with my workshops and the students! I will retire my minialbum and Steampunk Class now – bye bye- it was fun – LOL

That’s it :) Have a gorgeous week you all – lot’s of sunshine !!!

Then Saturday and Sunday we had our Workshops and it was awesome. All the students were super nice and although it was really hot they did the most amazing unique projects. It was wonderful to meet some I know and some new students- I  enjoyed it a lot!

And Birgit and I? Well…we were a bit…funny- LOL

Und Birgit und ich? Nun…wir waren ein wenig…komisch – LOL

    Huhu Nat,
