 In questo divertente workshop, su Canvas DIN A4, imparerai a disegnare un ritratto in un breve periodo di tempo. Si crea un ritratto con i vostri colori preferiti che potrai utilizzare come home decor oppure come un bel regalo per una persona speciale.
Inoltre imparerete diverse tecniche di Mixed Media con gesso, ad esempio: come creareuno sfondo, aggiungere texture, usare timbri, dipingere e alterare.

Second Floor Challenge # 3: Truth

 Are you ready to take the second floor this time? If you have no clue what I am talking about- read all about it here :) The Second Floor Challange

So today is our third Second Floor Challange: Truth

Whatever that means to you or however it inspires you.  The prompt is simply meant to get you started.  The level of challenge you aim for is entirely internal and up to you.

Truth..yes -when Julie proposed that theme I didn’t think it would be too difficult! Yeah…right. Little did I know. Just the word truth as a start…ok…

First step for me was to get an idea at all as an inspiration as to what to do….and I googled it…nothing too new for me…nothing to inspiring…I even asked Siri and that is what she told me:

mhhh great Siri, that doesn’t help – I mean I do a lot of open statements in my work….I try to stay true to myself…I show true feelings, thoughts etc…so now what?

I started googling songs containing truth …mmhh – clearly still first floor as I did this before ;) I found this one by John Lennon

This resonated a bit with me- especially those lines:

Actually…this resonates a lot with me – absolutely the truth…I’m sick of such stuff..wether it be in politics, work life or with people that surround you sometimes.   I also found that Dark blue is the color of truth and moderation.
OK – Challenge is up – the plan was to incoporate the song and only use dark blues…
going up from light blue to dark blue —-as if digging for the truth. And doing it all in one color…was actually my walk up to the second floor- I am really not so much a monochromatic person- LOL
or maybe, I took it to the second floor via journaling ;)
I so can’t wait to see what you come up with ….
What I learned from this challenge:
  1. The moment you think you are not challenged you lost…you are challenged ;)
  2. There is no elevator to an successful page you need to take the stairs and I didn’t – this is a last minute page because I was struggling with the theme.
  3. I usually work in a way that I do the backgrounds darker and then layer them up to get lighter…I like the different way thought…Need to do this more often
  4. Monochromatic is actually pretty cool – it makes you also aware of how many shades of blue are out there.
  5. I used cheese cloth many times before but I actually really like it in the monochromatic layer on top of acrylic paint and then spraypainted – it gives a pretty cool dimension.
  6. It doesn’t help when you start thinking of what your challenge partner…aka Julie might do with this theme…just stay in your own brain, it is hard enough to get that figured out ;)
  7. Siri is as useful as a cough ;) Sorry Siri ;)

Workshops in Canada and the USA

Bizzy B’s in Toronto would love to have me come before CHA Summer in July 13-15, 2012 , and in order to see if we can do it we need to know how the registrations might go over as the airfares at this time of the year from Germany to North America are a bit insane. So hop on over if you are interested in Workshops at this time in Toronto, Canada– here is some more information

36 Hours

What a fun 36 hour short trip that was. This Friday I went to Munich to Scrappies to teach 3 workshops Friday and Saturday. I left the house at 7 am in the morning to get to the airport and started teaching in the afternoon for two workshops.

I had so much fun with the students that were really enjoying getting their hands messy with all kinds of paint media. I loved again how different all the projects looked like in the end!

I had also an amazing “personal assistent” – little insider ;) Birgit was always there for me to give a helping hand – such a Sweetie!

And Sandra and Gaby, the store owners are so sweet and have a wonderful store full of yummie goodies…even the Eco Green Crafts Acrylic Paints that a lot of Germans ask me where to get are available at the Scrappies :)

We were all treated with an amazing yummie Bavarian “Brotzeit” for dinner – yum yum

Yep – we Germans like lunch meat and the Bavarians make the best ….(sshhhh – don’t quote me on that one because we Hamburgers actually would never say so in public…hahahaha- there is a little teasing involved between the Northern Hamburgers and the Southern Bavarians ;) )

I slept at the most awesome old remodeled bavarian farm house- I so wanted to take this stove home with me…but I think a) Sandra would have noticed…b) the airline would have noticed too ;)

Saturday morning we had some more inky fingers :) The girls rocked it!

And even though a couple students had left already- we managed to take a quick little group photo

Thank you so much girls- you were wondeful and I loved spending time with you.

Ich hoffe wir sehen uns bald wieder- ah jo scho ;) Schee wars …(wahrscheinlich ist das total falsch geschrieben– LOL)

Then we packed all together real quick and went to the airport  – beautiful sunny day in Munich.

Where I spoiled myself…ahem…I really really really couldn’t leave the shop without it…it was yelling “Buy me, buy me”. I think they thought I was shop lifting as I went in and out the store four times, stoping each time at the bag and petting it, then going out again…just to turn around in a brisk motion the last time, grabbing it and almost ran to the cashier to get over the “negotiating time” – LOL

my new art journal travel bag with some goodies in there already :)

And 36 hours I was home again in RAINY Hamburg :) FUN bumpy landing …NOT ;)

Heidi Swapp Memory Files – Travel Art Album

Can you imagine how stoked I was, that Heidi Swapp featured my Travel Art Album I made with her amazing new Memory Files for the ScrapArtZine Spring Issue? Between you and me…I actually almost fainted when she sent me the email asking for the pictures for her website… – and I almost fainted again when I read her sweet words about the album. I mean…Heidi..one of my idols when I started with this whole journey…

I love her products and ….shhh….I once bought an insane amount of her Heidi Swapp Chipboard Letters …ahem…and I mean INSANE – I have a whole drawer full in all colors and if you look at my projects you see them actually quite often ;)

As Heidi mentions, our style is totally different and yet- I love her collection – it makes it so easy to work with, is timeless and amazingly adjustable to any style.

You can read how I made the album on Heidi’s Website- I just show you the pictures- you actually might spot some pictures of our awesome California Roadtrip in January if you saw my photos back then.

So fun – I love those Memory Files and definitely will work more with them :)

    I think I would use one for when I am blog hopping and wandering around on line or out and about – an Inspiration file would be good – somewhere to put all the bits and pieces, techniques and things llike that that I come across

For the Love of Acrylic Paint

Acrylic Paint is my favorite Art Medium. Why? Oh boy…where to start…..LOL

There is just something about this paint medium that makes me happy – the endless possibilities on how you can use it in your Scrapbooking and your Mixed Media Projects, be it in backgrounds, embellishments, to alter your photos or for fun stamping accents or be it the way how you can achieve the most amazing color combinations or …oh wait…I almost forgot my favorite:

TEXTURE!

When I started my Über*Media Online Workshop Series I knew I would include Acrylic Paints in one of the Segments…only…I love that medium just soooo much – I have a gazillion things to share with you about it. And that is the reason why this is …and will be probably always …my biggest Online Workshop ever.

Have you ever experienced the “Blank-Page-Moment”? The moment where you have no clue where to start to get creative, yet you are itching to play and have fun? Well…the secret to conquer the Blank Page is knowing some playful and fun techniques with an easy medium ….like Acrylic Paint.

There are about 100 Techniques (actually more) , over 5 hours of video materials, 14 artjournal Step-By Steps, a Scrapbooking Layout and a Mixed Media Step-by Step Project and more in this workshop included.

I share with you everything I know about this medium…I share my thought process and most of all- you will have fun for sure :) We go from about 30  background techniques to more and more elaborate techniques, we will include fun other known and new media.

This Workshop is going to make you CREATE :)

Let's Sprout

well…at least with the Cocoa Daisy “Sprout” April Kit – because seriously- with that weather here right now…nothing sprouts….LOL.

Grocery Shopping

Maybe I am the only person that loves grocery shopping? LOL- sometimes when I talk to my friends they say how much they dread it- I so love grocery shopping. But maybe it is also a bit different when you live in a city and you can just walk and grab everyday a couple of things at stores and the market and cook it then for the dinner.

I added some faux stitching around the MME paper designed by Rhonna Farrer- so love this paper.

Memory Lane

This photo was taken in January on the Route 66 (no kidding huh…it is pretty clearly visible on the photo, Nat ;) ). This is an old motel with an old gas station and the owner bought it in 2000 and all of the interior and stuff was still original from the 50s- soooo cool! Roy’s Cafe- if you are ever close to Amboy- check it out.

I stamped with the Cocoa Daisy Tab Stap on paper and cut it out and then applied some brads and mounted it on 3D Foam Stamps. I also used some Denim Glimmer Mist and Gesso stamped with a paper role and added some colors here and there with the Derwent Artbars. Love how they apply to photos!

Follow Your Heart

It was so beautiful in Death Valley and what a view….especially the guy in the foreground ;)

I painted some of the honeycomb paper with Maya Mist and a brush – love the vibrancy of those colors.

Also sprayed the wooden Maya Road Bird with Maya Mist and then cut out the Manufacturer strip for the bird a I liked that banner so much. The Maya Road Bottle Cap was dunked into blue Utee and melted …yum yum yum – what an awesome texture and color…me thinks I need more of this colored Utee ;)

Have you planted anything yet? I might at least get some flowers hoping for planting and sprouting time :)

Gone with the Wind, Macbeth and Dr. Seuss – or what is SHE talking about?

The weekend started and I shortly wanted to say HAPPY WEEKEND to you before I dive into my studio to work like a maniac on a secret project- DEADLINE to turn it in …tomorrow.

And unfortunately not like Gone with the Wind-Tomorrow: “‘I’ll think of it tomorrow, at Tara”– it is more like a Macbeth-Tomorrow: “To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow, Creeps in this petty pace from day-to-day”

:) It is a very cool project too and once it is done I will finally send out my newsletter and work on a fun new other project that will be something to play along and I think you will love it :)

I leave you with part of an art journal page I made – new habit is playing at least 10-15 minutes every night before bed time in my artjournal- and boy is that a calming and mind easing process- try it :)

    Love your page its gorgeous, I just been checking out your Über*Media classes and oh how I wish I had some money spare so I could sign up they are just what I need especially the Acrylic paint and Gesso one as I have recently got into art journalling. Heard of pan pastels but not used them they do sound interesting :)

    I think I’m going to try the ten to 15 mins crafting a day, I do feel crafting is what calms me down and relaxes me after a stressful day with my three boys and house chores.

Crafter’s Workshop Stencil Blog Hop – Number 3

Totally stoked to join again into the Stencil Hop for Julie Fei-Fan Balzer‘s Crafter’s Workshop Templates. I guess if you follow my blog…I do not really have to tell you, how much I love them. If you don’t follow my blog…you should (just kidding ;) )

When Julie came out with those amazing Templates that can be layered I was almost fainting…LOL – sooo cool!!! You can use them with different acrylic paints or with spray paints or with Derwent Inktense blocks and Artbars – oh brother…endless possibilities

Today’s blog hop is focused on the Lotus Blossom Template – it is BEAUTIFUL (insert picture of me in cheerleader outfit exclaiming each of the letters while jumping up and down…oh wait…that might be a terrible picture….better proceed reading ;) )

And there it comes another fun way on how I love to use them :) – I created a Luminaria with the n*Lighten Technique

So much fun to use the n*Lighten Technique with the Stencils- they are perfect for this. So let me show you how it works.

You need for the first steps:

  • the 6×6 Lotus Blossom Crafter’s Workshop Template which was perfect for creating a Luminaria in the end.
  • 4 different colored Embossing Powders – I used the amazing WOW Embossing Powders by Suzy West – I’m just so amazed by the vibrancy of the colors- they seriously rock!
  • Pastel Paper – but I’m sure it will work also with thinner water color paper
  • Embossing Ink Pad – clear
  • Heating Gun

How To:

  1. Lay down the template and use the first image (you can also use all four and alternate later – I did this too)
  2. Dab the Embossing Ink Pad on top of the Template
  3. Make sure that you got the whole image
  4. Lift the Template
  5. Use one color of Embossing Powder and heat emboss
  6. Let cool
  7. Layer on the second image of the Template and again dab the embossing pad on top and sprinkle the second color on top
  8. Now with the second layer you have to be a bit more careful – you do not want to remelt the first layer in a way that it get’s lumpy or starts getting to melt into the second color – just watch closely the reaction
  9. and now repeat with image 3 and 4 and the other two colors of embossing powder
When you lift the paper and hold it against the light you see that  the image got translucent- the embossing powder diffused into the pastell paper and created a plastic layer. Perfect to use to create a Luminaria. Since I hadn’t had a paperback (read I couldn’t find it in my messy studio) I had to come up with something else

I draw a circle around the image that would give enough space to hold adhesive. Then I cut a letter size kraft paper sheet length wise in half. I cut circles with a craft knife out of the kraft paper that would just show the image. I adhered the Lotus Image to the back and bend the paper and glued the ends together forming a role.

And there you go – a summer luminaria- perfect in the garden or on your dinner table.

Warning: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep out of reach of children, playful husbands & pets. Be careful to not have the kraft paper too narrow to the candle!

    Hugs and Hi! If you put your tea candle in a drinking glass or jam jar, then you lower the risk of burning your paper: you can also wrap your luminaria paper around the jar as well. Just a thought. Blog Hop On! x LN

    HI Nathalie, not sure if you did this or not: but if you put your tea candle in a glass (drinking or jam jar) it is much safer and you can wrap the luminaria paper around it as well and not fear it burning. blessings.
