Oozing Paint or Why I sent a head to Toronto

It was tempting to write just “head” on the customs declaration form for my package to Bizzy B’s in Toronto…but as I was asked to alter a styrofoam head for a good cause – a silent auction at Bizzy B’s – I decided I might better not risk the opening of the package ;)

Working with styrofoam was really interesting…especially since I very much dislike the sound of styrofoam…gives me goosebumps just as getting a wooden spoon with coffee – just the thought of teeth on wood….ahhhrrrggghshahaahah – sorry- I go back to the head now …

With my head I wanted to get the things that are constantly in my head out . I am thinking of words, art and colors all the time. So I had the acrylic paints spilling out of my head and the words covering up all of my face. Kind of like- Inside – OUT.

It was fun playing with it and I hope that it will raise some money for the Western Technical School’s innovative Cyber Arts Program.

It was fun – but I gotta say…LOL- there is definitely a reason why I don’t work with heads ;) This was pretty challenging for me. If you want to see the other heads that were created- check them out here.

iDoodle…or The end of the Bee Gees in my handbag

There is three things in the world that make me splurge and not even think about if I REALLY need this…

  1. Shoes (yes- I’m one of them, full force “Oh no, those are not new, I have those forEVER, you just didn’t realize, honey!”)
  2. Art Media (it’s like a drug – needs to be tried out, can’t get enough of it, makes me happy, I get totally high on it!)
  3. Cool Bags or Safe Keeping Items (see below)

So a couple days ago I came across a video about those Papernomad bags and I was SOLD – I mean as in …purchased about 2 minutes after watching the video…as in…crazy woman…as in…this is the coolest thing in the world!

Because let’s face it …the Apple cover for the iPad looks great but when you travel it is not the best item to protect and every time I open my hand bag there is a disco light in there and my iPad is going nuts glooming and dancing: “stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive ah ha ha ha stayin’ alive” . I have been looking  for a cover I like – and so far I didn’t find any that would make my heart sing…until…well- I told you already ;)

So four days later I received my bag and started playing…iDoodle

I mean…helloooooo- this is fun!!! Little bit of Derwent Inktense Blocks and some Dylusion Stencils, Markers, and Liquitex Spray Paint….ahhhh

So cool – I so look forward adding to it once in a while- here is the beginning of the back of the sleeve

So this marks the end of the Bee Gees in my handbag…no more disco glooming “stayin’ alive” although I will miss walking through the airport like John Travolta.

I am so tempted to get the laptop sleeve too…more surface…ahhhh…but oh well…it is not in the …boring brown leather pocket that holds my money ;)

(Dear family…if you read this…now is the time to get a notepad out and write this down…you know…my birthday is coming up in two months, and you probably wonder what item would make me happy ;) HINT HINT!!!)

    That looks really cool. but I nearly spit my coffee out at the price. I realize it’s a high-tech paper, but I could make one in leather for less money – and it’s paper. Ooo- recycled leather would be cool… (now I’ve got my wheels spinning…)

Hej, Fika and Tack – or 3 good words to know in Swedish

hej! (hello!) – back from Sweden- where I had an amazing time teaching at the Scrapbooking med Hjärta Event. This time I promised myself to take more photos – and my new phone helped ;)

The event took place at an AMAZING school in Järfälla near to Stockholm – seriously- I have never seen a more beautiful school – first sight outside are benches with amazing quotes.

And then….See the name of my classroom- ohhhhhhh – loved it so much :)

I had a blast with my students- they were so fun and open to try new things and it was also lovely to meet some old friends I knew for some while in person for the first time and again :) )

Anna Björklund who I know for so many years and finally got to meet- such a Sweetie!!!!

And here are Jenny and Helene – who I called Twins because they both chose the same colors- LOL – but the canvases look different! (thank you Helene for sending me those pictures)

and this one made me laugh so hard!

We spent our Fika (Coffee break) with the best cake EVER baked by Ulrika B.-  and other breaks in the teacher’s lounge. My attempts to convince everyone that the baking goods were not that yummie, so that I could sneak in leftovers into my suitcase didn’t work….I should have put Ulrika in – for endless yummie baked good supply.

Seriously- have you ever seen a break room for teachers at a school being so wonderful?

and it was so fun to finally meet Christy – she is lovely

Getting a photo of all of us was almost impossible- snigger- we either looked all in different directions….or we just cracked up!

but wait- here we go —almost ;) – Teachers and the amazing organizers from Scrap-Perra, Scrapgalen and Annelies & Mians Scrap & Pyssel

Tack !!! (Thank you!) so much for this amazing event to my students and the organizers- it was awesome!

I definitely have to come back to Sweden!

Graffiti Bridge – Color Fun

This weekend was reveal day at Cocoa Daisy and we adjoined it with a fun crop! The May Kit called Graffiti Bridge has amazing colors- I had a lot of fun playing with it

I found this photo in a thrift store. The Journaling reads:

Grete, Martha and Hermine couldn’t be more different and yet they loved and supported each other all the time. They knew Grete didn’t want to marry Wilhelm and they promised her to support her however her struggles with father would end up! 1913

supplies: Cocoa Daisy May Kit, Maya Mist, Ranger Dabber, Derwent Inktense Blocks, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L MyStik

The next layout was inspired by Anna Björklund (so looking forward seeing thisgirl the coming weekend at the Scrapbooking med Hjärta Event in Sweden), who challenged us to create a layout with a flap…like a picnic basket:

Besides the kit I used: Ranger Dylusions, Liquitex Ink, Eco Green Crafts Glass Glintz, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L MyStik and Crafty Power Tape

I used some Liquitex Ink of the Glass Glintz – easy to heat up because it is recycled glass – so no worries with the heat.

I just had fun using vibrant colors inside

I manipulated the photo by using also Liquitex Ink on top – so love the colors and possibilities of them!

The next layout was inspired by a color challenge by Lisa Saunders– she is amazing !

Just a little not to self…;) I used the Cocoa Daisy Stamps with Liquitex Ink- can you say addicted? LOL

Make Your Colors Sing – Dylusions & Derwent ArtBars Tutorial

Give me new paint media and I vanish into my studio going crazy – I just can’t help it!

Recently I purchased some awesome Dylusions Ink Sprays – and somehow some Dylusions Stencils and Stamps also fell into that basket…ooops ;) Love the products! As you know I have been playing with spray paints for many years ….and so getting some new spray paints makes me just giddy with excitement to try them with all kinds of other media and find fun new techniques. Well….so it was only a matter of time, that after I figured out the scoop about those spray inks and how they react, to try them with Derwent ArtBars (if you missed my post about them – here you go)…another awesome new paint media in my possession. OHHHH MMMMYYYY DEAR!!!!

Dylusions Ink Sprays and the Derwent ArtBars are amazing each by themselves but put together….they make the colors SING :) A complete Supply List of what I used can be found below

    I actually have most of these products. Sadly I don’t have any Art Bars yet. I do have some of the Inktense and am going to use them instead. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your oh so easy to follow tutorial. If it weren’t for generous artists like you, I’d still be drawing stick figures!!! (((HUGS)))

    Ok, yesterday, I’d thought: I REALLY want some Artbars. (have the sprays, stencils, stamps)
    Decided to wait, not scurry off to whichever store ..
    Now? Now???? Having watched this video, I HAVE to have Artbars – NOW!! Yep, cancelled my haircut so I’d have time to try Michael’s and/or Hobby Lobby. (art is always more important than hair! lol)

    To be honest I often use just one product and don’t think to mix the techniques/products. But last night in my art journal I played with white gesso, stamp and inks, washi tape, stencils and how to put things on the page when I can’t wait for them to dry (and how that changes things up). LOL

      Hi Mila – I couldn’t find a shop in spain- but there is a distributor- so probably bigger art stores store it. You can order them for example in Dyan’s Store Art From the Heart in the UK – she ships to the mainland of Europe too and I ordered there and loved the service! http://shop.afth.co.uk/derwent-464-c.asp – I hope that helps

    I just loved how you “tapped” the birds into the page with inks and stencil – soooo cooool! Have to try.
    Also loved how you colored the birds, the foam stamp, water and the ArtBars. Looks too me that those are “must have” LOL (as most of the things you use :D)

    Such a great lineup of classes, Nat! If I weren’t so bogged down in work-related “stuff” (having your own business, you know that the workday NEVER really ends…) and wasn’t already in an online class that I am having to ignore for the moment, I would SOOOOO be in this Acrylics class! That said, it is high on my list, so when I am on the other side of this crazy biz transition, I think an Uber Media class would be an excellent reward for myself!

Workshop Day at the n*Studio

Love those n*Studio days every couple of weeks. I set up our livingroom-dining room and kitchen area for workshops and there is a group of about 35 girls…and 1 guy ;) that are signed up through my Hamburg Newsletter (German!) – I can seat about 12.

As we are right next to my studio, there is usually everything right there and I love that we have become a quite close group. We share stories, thoughts and I let them try things out. Often times they are the first ones to try the brand new workshops…sometimes they are the very last ones, like yesterday…with the Timeless Colors Workshop, a Canvas Workshop.

I think I will retire this workshop now…It has been a fun workshop with lot’s of acrylic paint. It always feels weird to retire a workshop…it’s like saying good-bye to a friend that accompanied you for a while- LOL

I always loved the totally different color choices and outcomes of all the canvases my students created- here is Liz’ working on her canvas during the workshops yesterday:

We had lot’s of yummie food for lunch – the girls always bring the best food for the n*Studio day….yuuummm!!!! It is a very cozy and relaxed atmosphere I want them to feel like home…and our cat thinks their bags are there to inspect and seems to think they are quite ok ;)

My dream is for one day maybe have a studio which can seat more people – I can see a little kitchen included – lots of windows and tables and chairs and for some reason a brick wall….some rusty industry poles in the middle of the wall and a graffiti wall of course. I don’t want to own a store….I just would love to have such a space one day where you can do creative retreats and workshops. Oh well….LOL – I guess that is not up in the air unless I will win in the lottery (which I never play- HA)

The second workshop was a Prima Workshop “Daily Observations”. It was a lot of spray paints involved and they all have become quite experts in using them – and one new student caught up in no time…actually she was finished first with her minialbum  !

And it was awesome to see Jan again – always fun to have him – he has to suffer quite a bit at those workshops with just us girls- LOL. But he is good in keeping us in check – tehehe!

The girls…and guy….get always shown other possible workshops- they pick upon seeing the original – no sneaks…and then vote which workshops to take next. Then we also vote on a next date….quite democratic- LOL- and then I create the new newsletter for Hamburg with all class information and everyone can sign up. It is a first comes first serve basis. This time they voted on “Portrait of a Lady” and “Chalk on The Wild Side” being the next workshops – and the date is August 18, 2012 :) Looking forward seeing my peeps – well, better make sure to get the newsletter done now ….

      nooo – 35 peeps are signed up to the newsletter that announces the workshops and they alternate. I can only seat 12 ;)

On a Paint Media High

Lately I have been playing a lot in my art journal- it is the place to try new things, to don’t care, to have happy and funny accidents- careless, fun, emotional…..

I love this- it makes me happy to play with old and new stuff- trying color combinations – new techniques….my studio is my happy place- no doubt about it! :)

 

I might have a little yellow orange crush right now ;)

 

I do insane stuff- hahahha- like layering up 10 or so different paint media- so much fun. Just because I can….just because I want…just because I know how they react but I want to know more about the interaction of those media….Just because….

Having some amazing vibrant paint media helps…you gotta admit, that these here trigger creativity right from looking at them

These Liquitex Spraypaints will be available in Germany in Fall- they are AWESOME!

well…and the Liquitex Inks….HEAVEN in liquid form…truly…making me HAPPY :)

Just 10 minutes a day….such a wonderful feeling….try it :)
