Jumping with… Jodi Ohl – A CJS Interview Series

So happy to share with you today a special video interview I did with one of our Creative JumpStart 2020 teachers: Jodi Ohl. Jodi has done CJS with us before and we are very happy to welcome her back this year! I have known Jodi for many years through online and in person workshops and I have always admired her artwork, so this interview was a lot of fun to do!

A little about Jodi: Jodi is a full time artist, author, and creative instructor who is well known for her whimsical and abstract artmaking styles. In this interview she discusses how her path led her to creating art and how at transitional moments in her journey, her art making played a huge role. She talks about overcoming rejection when submitting art and seeking out opportunities, and the rewards of taking risks in the creative process. I think you’ll also enjoy hearing how she uses color and brushwork to express what is going on in her life, and how powerful that can be.

Please enjoy this Jumping with… Jodi Ohl Interview!

Thank you Jodi!

You can learn more about Jodi Ohl here on her website and also here on Facebook.

And now it is your turn to go after a fun and inspiring challenge beginning this January: Sign up TODAY for Creative JumpStart 2020 and get 31 different mixed media lessons from 31 Super Hero Artists like Jodi Ohl.  Hope to see you in the CJS classroom soon :)

Abstracts in Acrylic & Ink by Jodi Ohl

My wonderful friend Jodi Ohl wrote this inspiring book Abstracts in Acrylic & Ink and it is stuffed with loads of great techniques, tricks and inspiration. In Jodi’s own words it “is a book about learning how to unfold, learn, grow, expand, experiment and experience a dialogue with art.”

The artwork and step outs are beautifully photographed and definitely make you wanna go into your studio and play yourself.

I am super stoked that Jodi also asked me to contribute some of my paintings to her book as they represent some of the concepts she covers in her book.

Get yourself a copy or leave a comment on the bottom of this post for a chance to win one of the copies of the book I received. You can comment until January 28, 2017 midnight EST and I will pick one lucky winner randomly and announce the winner shortly after.

I love Jodi’s concept of experiencing a dialogue with art! I think it’s a good way to approach an art journal page – rather than trying to complete a perfect piece of art from the outset, I’ll just say to myself “now I am going to have a dialogue with art” and see what happens!

Nathalie, I would love to win a copy of this book. I’m 65 and madly trying to catch up for the lost years when I didn’t realize I could make art! I read voraciously and see hints of the influences helping to grow my work ?
