Roadtrip or…Prima Prima

I had a lot of fun creating this layout for the CHA Prima Booth – I love the new Engraver Collection ! Perfect for some snapshots with my cellphone camera from last year in January. As it was posted on the Prima Blog I can now share it with you :)

Roadtrip01

Although I do love black and white- I have a hard time sticking to it- LOL- as you can see I adjusted the paper to my style – added a bit of my favorite colors.

Roadtrip02

I used  several Distress Stains on top of the paper and also added a tiny bit of Liquitex Spraypaint – and voila – the grunge is back ;)

Roadtrip03

I also love that the packaging of the metal embellishments is made to use it too. I love things you can recycle and upcycle.

I found an old English grammar book that was my mother’s in school and it has some of her doodles in it and I think I will do this with it. I was trying to think what I could do with the book and still have a bit of “her” inside. I have some older pictures of her and some family pics that I can add. Thanks very much for sharing this wonderful project Natalie.

These colors are so different for you and yet you managed to ROCK them like all your work Nat! I would be able to make one of these albums and focus on my Starbucks soy chai no water no foam chai. That is a fun fact about me…I have one drink and I stick to it. My hubby hates to be with me when I order it since he says I sound like such a snob. The folks at Starbucks just laugh and have gotten to know me. I even manage to have birthday treats saved for me when workers bring them in for each other.

Chi-CHA-Town Summer 2012…or simply Summer CHA 2012 Part 2

Here we go with the second part of CHA Summer 2012 in Chicago :) BTW- did I mention that it was HOT in Chicago and COLD? Well, hot as soon as you left a building, it hit you like a wall and then you started freezing because the AC was so cold. I carried a woolen jacket with me to wear inside…shaking head- LOL

This was one of my favorite Christmas Lines at the Show . My Mind’s Eye – Rhonna Farrer. Loved the awesome mix of trendy chevron with vintage postcard and notebook paper patterns.

Sneaking behind the cute Mou Saha– haven’t seen her since we both taught in France years ago.

Here is Bettina at her fun my StampBox booth

Loving the stamps!

Loved what I saw from this new company Farmhouse Paper Company which came out with some amazing new papers and chipboard and albums. The quality was awesome and I can’t wait to play with it – will show you more soon.

Per and Mia from Sweden – we laughed so hard because on the small floor we said good-bye a million times just to see each other five minutes later ;) It was fun though- they are sweet and awesome!

I had a blast with my Prima Marketing peeps :) They are so fun and I had a great time doing my Make n’ Takes there – see me in action- LOL

I will show the Make n’ Take as a tutorial in a video very soon :)

One of my favorite new products from CHA- these lightbulbs by Prima. I used them on this canvas here– and it was hard to use them…I wanted to keep them- just for me and hidden from the world- LOL

LOL- this picture is cracking me up ;) Not sure what we wanted to do…but it was funny.

Here is the Ruby Rocket booth- loved the wedding kinda decoration and see this:

VELLUM- shriek. Probably the biggest surprise of this show. Making a come back and you know what…I like it! (you have found me playing dead whenever someone asked me to use vellum the years before ;) )

These patterns are so cool- can’t wait to get my hand on these- I have lot’s of ideas!

Tammy, Gretchen and Karen at the Sizzix booth.

Loved the Stampendous decoration- so many fun ideas on how to use their stamps etc.

Fun stamps and blueprints at Stamper’s Anonymous.

Loved those at the Idea-ology booth- times are over where I was hunting those down and saw the handle off to make my little christmas tree myself- LOL

Awesome products and projects by Wendy Vecchi

and here she is herself thinking “what is this evil Kraut doing now?” ;)

And I loved these with the fitting paper by My Little Yellow Bicycle.

All in all it was a nice show – I loved meeting everyone and working at the show, it was inspiring and fun to see the new products and booths, but it was a small show and it was EMPTY. A lot of manufacturers were not there. As a CHA-Designer I will make sure to voice my opinion (hope they won’t put something on the bar code of my badge next time, if I do so ;)) . There are definitely things that are not going in the favor of neither CHA, nor the manufacturers nor  the retailers. If I would take the plunge to go there again with outraging airfares in summer from Germany? I doubt it …unless it is tied up again with something else.

Have a wonderful weekend you all and see you tomorrow :)

Huge hugs

Nat

“Playing dead” if someone asked you to use vellum! Hahahaha! I laughed so hard at that! And your “special barcode” on your badge if you voice your opinions–too funny! But, I think it would be for the greater good if you did share your thoughts and opinions about the show. I agree with Sue, that it may be a sign of the economy, with so many of our favorites having to close their doors , or get absorbed by larger entities, and the expense of participating in a trade show. :(

Thanks for the peek into the show, and that MME Rhonna Ferrar Christmas is gorgeous! Can’t wait! Fun to add those lightbulbs in with it!

Chi-CHA-Town Summer 2012…or simply Summer CHA 2012 Part I

My next stop on my journey was Chicago – I flew over with Bettina from My StampBox and we had a good time…two Krauts at the border from Canada to the U.S. …interesting….I must have come across pretty krautish too, because voicing my opinion over United Airlines Costumer Service (why the heck do I get yelled at that I didn’t check in again at the kiosk if I checked in online and have a boarding pass that says- go right to baggage drop off?) ended up in having my luggage receipt glued down right on the boarding pass bar code…which lead to a lot of waiting time in any following line. Thank you, United, always a pleasure flying with you….NOT ;)

First sight at the entrance to CHA – CANADIANS ;)

Here are some random images from CHA in no other than the alphabetical file order ;) :

Amy Tangerine for American Crafts- loved the embellishments. Also fun to see that she came out with this minibook

Lot’s of companies came out with books for Artjournaling or in form of something similar like the Smashbooks.

This picture of Anna Dabrowska and me makes me laugh! We had a good time – just too short.

Also loved meeting Bernie Berlin from a Place to Bark and my fun friend Cat Scanlon.

Little Insider by Cat, Carmi and Claudine ;)

This photo was taken before Christine, Ronda and I met Julie – Christine looks like a model and is tall like a model…this photo shows how Ronda and I look silly next to her- LOL.

Lot’s of new Christmas lines- a lot of them with a vintage 50s design. Liked this one by Cosmo Cricket a lot.

Also a trend for me was seeing jewelery like pendants as embellishments.

Lot’s of Mixed Media Make n’ Take- here is Ronda doing a fab job at the Crafter’s Workshop Booth – Love the new Templates!

and here is Ted from Crafter’s Workshop :) – they have, hands down my favorite Stencils on the market right now.

speaking of Julie’s Stencils- these are her awesome stamps with Creative Obsessions that go with some her Stencils – I …NEEED….THEM

Die Cut With a View- DCWV had the best Halloween Decoration- you couldn’t miss it right in the entrance

Debbie and Paula working for Idea-ology- so fun to see them!

The fab Dina Wakley also at the Crafter’s Workshop Booth

Stencils Stencils everywhere- now also back as chipboard embellishments – like here titles by Fancy Pants

and homedecor still big – here Frames by Fancy Pants

Spray paints still going strong – here Heidi Swapp’s new Collection of Color Shine – 12 new colors with a little ball inserted.

The colors have a nice even shine and cover wonderfully- if the clogging is really prevented by the ball inside- I have to test – it would be awesome if so!

Typewriters, Typewritter keys and Typewritter font – big trend!

seeing sweet Holly Simoni from Spellbinders

Feathers seem to be a big trend- I loved those by Jenni Bowlin

Wood buttons everywhere

Awesome seminar by my friend Julie – she rocks seminars- just as does Joe Rotella. I had some lovely time with Julie and miss her already :(

Leica Forest and me – she is so cute!

The amazing talented Lisa Pace doing Make and Takes and the Maya Road booth!

Hard to see- but loving those Maya Road Kraft Stickers- which come as hearts or circles- you can spray them or whatever and then add them to your background or art journal page – love it.

More CHA pictures coming with the next post ….it is a load of pictures, I know…. :)

Wishing you a wonderful creative day

Huge hugs

Nat
