ArtCollab – Next Episode August 3rd!

Episode 6: Pass the Brush

In this episode Sarah and Nat are meeting with Pass the Brush organizer Rachel Juanita Bellamy. In 2020 the Pass the Brush event paired up Sarah and Nat and it prompted them to get to know each other better. Pretty soon they had forged a lovely new friendship and jumped into several creative projects together (including these ArtCollab zoomcasts). They will chat with Rachel about the benefits of artistic collaboration, the importance of elevating others, what has changed since the Pass the Brush event last year, and what challenges remain. Tune in to join us and contribute to the conversation with Questions and in the Chat.

ArtCollab is a monthly zoomcast with artists Sarah Matthews and Nathalie Kalbach (and occasionally other special guests too).

Each episode Sarah and Nat get together, collaborate on all sorts of unique artsy projects, share their process and offer updates and sneak peeks along the way, and of course they chat about all stuff art-related and topics that go way beyond that too.

ArtCollab is a real life look into the process of creating, collaborating, and the ins and outs of living an artistic life that is touched by others.

Join in for an entertaining and inspiring interlude into the world of two artists who are working together in conversation and practice.

Lettuce Build a Better Tomorrow – Pass the Brush Collaboration

I hope you had a chance to tune into my Instagram Thursday and Friday for a takeover from the super talented printmaker, book artist, and artfoamies designer Sarah Matthews!

When Sarah and I talked about the process and got to know each other we decided we would want to challenge each other by sending each other a background which then the receiving artist would finish up – A real Collaboration …passing the brush so to speak. Here is what Sarah sent me!

I loved it right away – in one of our conversations I had mentioned that I had a garden and some lettuce and she thought of her carved lettuce stamp.

I love the background and cool layering – It was sooo precious- But then I got to work.

I started layering with some Moonlight Duo Ink and my Weave Art Foamie stamp.

I felt I needed to add just a little bit more and thought the intersections of the lettuces make a fun triangle area …and well …a garden has flowers…sometimes …if you do not forget to water them ;)

so I used the Tulip Triangle from my Triangle Love Set and added this to the print.

And then I felt I would really not want to cover it more as I wanted to keep Sarah’s background alive and so I went for a final addition of adding some text.

I pulled out my woodblocks and some Speedball inks and added this …

I am quite in love with our collaborative piece. And if you want to see her take on my background -she will share it with a video on Monday. I do hope we get to make more art together in the future and as I said Lettuce build a better tomorrow.

Pass the Brush begins Today!

I hope you tune into my Instagram today and tomorrow for a takeover from the super talented printmaker, book artist, and artfoamies designer Sarah Matthews!

Then tomorrow at 12noon EST Sarah and I are having a live chat on Instagram. 

All this is part of the “Pass the Brush” event! “Pass the Brush” is the artistic community’s version of “Share the Mic.” and our goal is to show solidarity within the mixed media community and to amplify black mixed media artists so their voices can be heard and art can be seen in a broader audience.

Pass the Brush – Takeover Event with Sarah Matthews

So excited and honored to be participating in “Pass the Brush” here on my blog and on Instagram too!

“Pass the Brush” is the artistic community’s version of “Share the Mic.” The objective of this event is to show solidarity within the mixed media community and to amplify black mixed media artists so their voices can be heard and art can be seen in a broader audience.

On July 16th and 17th, the amazing Sarah Matthews will be taking over my Instagram feed, as well as my Creative Squad Instagram feed. Sarah is an incredible printmaker artist (and a fellow ArtFoamies designer!) and I am honored to “pass the brush” to her :) Please check her out here on her website too.

And then, also on July 17th, Sarah and I are doing an Insta Live broadcast together where we will talk with each other at 12 noon EST – so be sure to tune into that here on my Instagram.
