Workshops

Photos of the Workshop at Nathalie’s Studio

Last Saturday I taught my Stroll Through the Hood workshop here at home in an intimate setting and it was so fun to have 7 wonderful ladies join me. I used to teach a lot of home-workshops in Germany and I would like to do some small ones once in a while here too- this was the first time I did it:)

Here is the morning view before they all came- I had set up everything in our dining room/kitchen area

and lot’s of supplies were waiting to be used :)

for some fun urban sceneries.

And then there we are already in full force creating. It was so wonderful to have lovely people from Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey and New York!

Katie creating some wonderful sceneries –

Jill, Theresa and Linda fully immersed :)

And then there were Donuts …of course with a Halloween theme :)

Look at the gorgeous smile Linda gave me after I tortured here to look at me ;)

And here are her gorgeous pieces- look at all those patterns and colors- yummie!

Lea’s beautiful work in progress – i love the colors!

And Maria listening to Anne and creating magic!

And Anne’s beautiful work- I love her Flat Iron building so much!

It was a great day and so I will do a workshop again at my n*Studio :) Probably in February 2018.

If you want to join any of my In-Person Workshops a list of them is posted here. I will be this coming weekend at The Queen’s Ink in Maryland (Saturday is sold out but there are still a couple seats in my Mono Print Painting class open!)

I am also teaching my last workshop for this year in Salem, Oregon at Runaway Art and Craft Studio – December 2 -3 – which includes also the Stroll Through the Hood workshop I taught here at home :) I hope you can join me for any of those -I would love to see you!

Color Crush Workshop in Coventry, UK for Art Workshops

Last weekend my friend Birgit Koopsen and I taught our 3Day Color Crush Retreat for Art Workshops in Coventry in the U.K.

We had a wonderful group of 34 super talented and sweet ladies creating an art journal from scratch.

Birgit and I both love color but we both have a different style and we set the mood by putting a lot of colorful stuff out.

we started with some color theory and color exercises and some ink drawings and stamping.

so many happy faces – it was such a great group.

Look at all those colors!

Aren’t those gorgeous? The second day we did a lot of gelli printing techniques

Now if you do not call this a yummie color crush!

And we even had a short session for making your own foam stamps outside- the weather was great…who says it is always raining in the U.K?

And a lot of the new Art Foamies were used as well

And of course there was a ton of opportunity to buy some stuff …always love seeing the ArtFoamies, most were gone after 3 days.

It was wonderful to see Tali, Tsila, Iris and Hedi from Israel again -it is so many years ago that I met them when teaching in Tel Aviv. Thanks for coming all the way to the UK to join us.

The third day we started the day off binding the book and adding the covers. I don’t think Hazel and Shirley were really as scared as they look like in the photo when Birgit explained how to add the covers- LOL

After having the book all together we got a treat.

The food for the event was plenty some and so good and on top of that Sue, B, Leroy, Debbie and Pam made all of us feel really pampered during the whole retreat.

And then it was all about finishing up some pages and showing how we layer on top of our backgrounds

And…seeing a lot of the ladies with my book “Artful Adventures in Mixed Media”  made me super duper extra happy. I know I am a dork but it really does!

Since I came home this week I feel so energized and inspired- it was such a wonderful retreat. Thank you so much to all of the wonderful students who joined us, for Sue for inviting us and to her and her staff for taking great care of us and to my wonderful friend, partner in crime and very tall co-teacher Birgit! It was amazing.

If you weren’t able to join but would like to take a workshop with me check out my In-Person Classes. I will be teaching at the Queens Ink in Maryland  and at Runaway Art and Craft Studio on November 4-5 and December 2 -3 in Oregon. And if you are interested in taking a workshop with me and Birgit – we are coming back to Syracuse July 20-22, 2018 for a three day fun retreat – so safe the date.

Workshops in the Netherlands in April 2018

I’m happy to announce that I will be coming to the Netherlands in the spring to teach 2 workshops at De Scrapheap. Come join me on April 21 and 22, 2018 with some workshops to help you take your Art Journal to new places :) I am so excited to see both old friends and new faces at these workshops!

April 21, 2018

My Master Art Express workshop is a journey through art history that will help you find new inspiration for your art journaling. We’ll look to the work of master artists from all over Europe and then we’ll play with new techniques to help you push your own personal art journaling style.

April 22, 2018

Artvergnugen is all about taking your art journal to the next level! We’ll play with different media and techniques, we’ll use stamps, stencils, and acrylic paints to create rich layers, and we’ll discuss composition and making tough choices. Artvergnugen is what makes your art journal a work of art, and this workshop will get you there!

New Downloadable PDF Art Lesson: Creating Texture

I’m excited to announce that my downloadable PDF Art Lesson 9: Creating Texture Plates Inspired by Nature is now available in the NorthLightShop! For $3.99 it’s a great deal – you get a full step out AND a 10min video :)

As you know, I love playing with texture in my artwork, especially the textures that can be found in nature. In this Art Lesson, you will learn a way to create some super gorgeous textures with a few new materials and techniques, and I will share with you how I use inspiration from nature to guide me. I begin with an inspiration photo of geysers I took at Yosemite National Park, and by using a variety of mediums and mixed media techniques, I create a deeply textured plate that begs to be touched.

You can check out on ClothPaperScissors how this lesson and tips from my book Artful Adventures in Mixed Media inspired Jeannine Stein to create some beautiful nature inspired tags.

The Lesson is available here.

Last weekend I taught two Art Journaling Classes at Everything Scrapbook & Stamps and it was fun to be back there. We had such a good time.

The Saturday class was “What’s cooking?” and we explored all the things that make artwork work and discussed how to solve art problems in your art journal.

I loved the progress and results of the pages -it was such a feast for the eyes

Beautiful patterns

And look at these finished pages- oh yummie

You gotta love the elephant with the tutu – it’s adorable!

And seeing my new Art Foamies used in such a clever way- oh yum!

And this is the coolest- a combination of both – so cool!

I am always giddy when I see a display with my stamps and stencils and Michelle brought all those yummy things into the store for the workshops!

And seeing all the students that had gotten my book made my day …actually this makes several days- soooo love this pic :) Thank you girls!!!

I will be teaching 2 workshops at Ephemera Paducah in Kentucky May 18-20, 2018 so mark your calendars. One will be my very popular Mono Print Painting all day class where you can learn a really cool way to make mono prints. The other is my 2 day Artful Adventures in Art Journaling class which will cover all kinds of techniques to help you find inspiration in your art journaling. And if you sign up for both classes, you will save a bit, so I hope you will join me!

Mono Print Painting

Friday May 18th: 9am – 5pm

Join me for a day long class in Mono Print Painting. We will dive into the basics of mixed media mono printing first and I will introduce you to the Mono Print Painting technique inspired by H.N. Werkman. I will show you different ways on how to create elaborate and layered mono printed paintings using self made tools as well as stamps and stencils. I will share with you my thinking process on developing the technique and how we you can put your own personal spin on it, so that you can take your art to a whole different level.

Artful Adventures in Art Journaling

Let’s go on an Artful Adventure together and explore all the different ways to find inspiration for our Art Journaling! Pack your bags with the basics for this 2-day adventure. We’ll explore color theory and ways to master composition with the Principles of Art. As our journey begins we’ll meet some of the great artists of the world and see how their style and methods can inspire our own creations. Then as we travel together we’ll spend some time exploring transfer techniques, collage and layering processes, and ways to create both visual and actual texture. All along the way, we’ll be gathering inspiration from the sights we see and the people we meet. We’ll pull everything together when we reach our destination – the pages of our Art Journal!

Photos of my Mixed Media Workshops in California

Last weekend I taught three mixed media classes at Scrapbooking Forever in Westvillage, California.

It was a wonderful time there with the students- I taught my Artvergnugen, as well as my Master Art Express and my Walk With Me Class.

Here are some wonderful patterned pages from the Artvergnugen Class.

It truly was a lot of Artvergnugen :)

I also taught my Master Art Express Art Journaling class which is taking Art Journaling a bit further and takes inspiration from different Artists imaginary traveling through Europe.

I loved all the different ideas and approaches the students tried out!

My altered book class Walk With Me was super fun as well and the ink drawings some of my students added to their books.

I did not take many photos as some of my students wanted to remain private – a request I happily follow- but here is one of Winkie and me. If you ever happen to be in a class room with Winkie prepare yourself for a life story ride that blows your mind. My favorite thing about teaching is, that besides that it makes me happy to see people being creative, what wonderful and interesting people I meet along my way. Everyone’s story is worth telling and I am truly grateful that I am meeting so many amazing people.

Hope to see you in one of my classes in the future. Check out my in-person-class schedule. I will be in Florida next weekend at Everything Scrapbook and Stamps and then fly in October to the U.K. to teach at a retreat with my friend Birgit Koopsen in Coventry – there are still a couple spots left.

Workshops in Oregon in December

I will be coming to Salem, Oregon on December 2nd and 3rd to teach 3 workshops at Runaway Art and Craft Studio!

You can sign up for these workshops by calling (503)881-6270 or by e-mail at Christy@Runawayart.com. Hope to see you on the West Coast in December :)

Saturday, December 2nd: 9 am – 12:30 pm

Let’s create a beautiful little wall hanging for your home, office, or beyond! We will begin by creating a colorful, patterned background. Then we’ll take it further by adding scenery using stamps, graphite, paints and other supplies. Finally we will add detail and highlights to pull the landscape together. We will be working on Ampersand Clayboard which offers a special and exciting surface to create your Mixed Media work on.

Saturday, December 2nd: 2pm – 5:30 pm

All Aboard the Master Art Express! Imagine you could take a trip through Europe and at each stop one of the many masters of European art would materialize and invite you to explore their art to implement into your art journal. Let’s take this imaginary trip together and explore different European artists at each station, taking their artwork as an inspiration for mixed media techniques and colors. We will discuss why some things work and why some things don’t work and will solve the little “problems” that sometimes occur while creating art. Work with acrylic paints, acrylic inks, different tools and materials and gain a deeper knowledge about the versatility and possibilities of your art materials. Let the travel itself be part of the journey and take the elements of art in to push your own art journaling style just a notch further.

Sunday, December 3rd: 10am – 5:30 pm

It starts the moment you sit down, an experience that is distinctly art journaling. A quick exhilaration, a sense of control, the art media’s surprising responsiveness as if they were simply an extension of you. There is a word for this creative experience: Artvergnugen! Artvergnugen is what makes your journal a piece of art. Join me and play with different art media and supplies; discover fun layering techniques with stamps, stencils and acrylic paints. Let’s talk about colors, composition, love-it or list-it to truly reveal your own style, and learn techniques, tips and tricks to take your art journaling further and turn it into Artvergnugen.

You can sign up for these workshops by calling (503)881-6270 or by e-mail at Christy@Runawayart.com
