Workshops in Sweden – Stockholm August 31-September 1, 2013

Wohooo – so happy to come back to Sweden this year to teach at the Creative Moments Event organized by Scrap-Perra.

I will teach 3 workshops – here they are

Season Canvas:
In this Workshop with Nathalie Kalbach, you will create a stunning and unique canvas that will be a wonderful home décor item.Learn how to create dimension and texture with tissue paper, items of daily life, acrylic paint, lace, burlap, and gesso.

Learn how to reveal the interesting and eye catching texture with acrylic paints and acrylic inks and add some fun stamping techniques on top.

We will be adding lots of layers and dimension to make this a spring, summer, fall or winter canvas… just as you like. All the techniques can easily be applied to future projects.

Classtime is 4 hours.

Über-Media Acrylic Paint:
In this workshop you learn how to use Acrylic Paints in your Art Journal. This class shows all kinds of possibilities using Acrylic Paints with different media.We will start with the basics then make our way up to more advanced techniques. Everything will be taught in an art journal.

I will share with you my favorites, whether it be how to build up interesting backgrounds, resist techniques or incorporating other paint media for stunning layers. I will share with you why I’m doing things, how I got the idea, and what works and what doesn’t seem to work.

Join the uber-fun in this class!

Class is at least 4 hours.

Yawp:
Are you ready to dive into art journaling? Let’s sound a barbaric YAWP over the rooftops of the world and get ready for a lot of creative freedom. I will teach you how to create your own easy to create art journal using wonderful PanPastels.Learn mixing, blending, painting and drawing with those soft pastels. Learn how to get stunning results with different resist techniques and fun stamping tricks using embossing powders and other paint media.

You can easily apply all of the learned techniques to later projects whether it be art journals, mixed media and even scrapbooking projects.

Looking forward to yawp along with you in this 3 1/2 hour-long class.

I am so thrilled to teach with also my sweet friends Birgit Koopsen and Janna Werner and to meet Asa Danielsson.

Space Age Bachelor Pad or…Art Journal Page

Art Journal Mixed Media

This is what happens when you sit in your mid century style (or in normal words: 50s influenced living room) listening to Esquivel while sketching in your Art Journal

I played with my Derwent Inktense Blocks to try some things with them and I used all colors in my 24 set…can you tell? LOL

No other substances were involved…promised ;)

Ha, I kept waiting to see you making your project, and waited, and waited, then It dawned on me that you were writing about Esquivel’s music, and had posted the music by itself. I am very familiar with that song too, just as Carmen (Cuchy) remembers. Those songs, written by Manzanero, were my favorite. I was a teenager and a romantic so it brought back very nice memories of my life living in Mexico in the 60’s.

Natalie: This may be one of my most fav. pages! it is absolutely awesome. The colors and shapes are incredible. I can see each and every one as an entire page. It could be stared at for ages and ages. Speaking of The Bachelor….tonight is the night I think!!!! Can’t wait…. hee hee

WOW this is one of your most colourful artwork. I love how it turned out. Beautiful.
By the way. you know the original “Esta tarde vi llover” song is from mexican Armando Manzanero. It is a beautiful bolero. Nothing to do with this funny version :) which I also like and had never listen to. (He is the same artist as in CJS teaser video, right?)

: ) I love the fifties style. I’d never heard this music. I just saw “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” again and it reminds me of some of the music in that. It does not look like you used all the colors, which is quite amazing! I like the page a lot.

Farewell SAZ …or…La Dolce Vita Minialbum

Mini Album Mixed Media Papercrafts prima marketing Scrapbooking

A bit sad I write this post- in Dezember 2006 my friends Andrea and Jana started with their German magazine ScrapArtZine. What started as an electronic magazine became a print magazine pretty quick and I loved contributing to the magazine from the beginning on.

It was fun being part of something that was created by a sole group of devoted people – no big publishing house in the background, from the articles, to the pictures, to the graphic design, to the layouting, taking care of advertisers, subscribers etc, to the getting it to the printer, to putting it in envelopes to sending more than 2000 issues out…all in the hands of a couple of people – mostly Jana and Andrea. I think that is pretty amazing.

The sad thing is…the magazine had its last issue out this January…it is just to time consuming and too crazy to continue for my friends who have a full-time job too which actually puts food on the table. The magazine didn’t for neither of us. I can totally understand their decision – although it sad to see this magazine go. It closes another chapter of my more scrapbooking related path from years ago – I have moved in a very different direction for years now and it was wonderful that Andrea and Jana let me still be part of it in writing my columns and articles. Thank you Andrea and Jana for a good time and fun at the SAZ. I enjoyed it a lot.

The last article I wrote was about Prima’s Mixed Media Albums…and the pictures you see are some samples from the article. I will miss writing articles for magazines…but who knows what the time will bring.

What magazines Mixed Media/Craft/Scrapbooking do you enjoy to read?

Aww, so sad for your friends; but you have to do what you have to do for sanity’s sake. I enjoy reading Cloth, Paper Scissors, magazine and have a digital subscription to Northridge Publishing’s books on line.

This is the perfect alternative to the slick/money-making magazines. The articles are personal, creative, inspiring. The photos are great. The interviews are with unusual artists doing very interesting work. You really can’t go wrong with this publication.

I really enjoyed Vamp Stamp News as a print magazine, but she also had to stop publishing for the same reason. The good news is she publishes a (usually) free online article each month! Really great lady!
As far a print goes, I’ve been looking at Rubber Stamper lately.

So sad to hear about SAZ. Whenever I was in Germany I tried to get my hands on a copy.Do you know if they have any old copies for sale? I would love to buy some for my sister in Germany?

Somerset Art Journaling, Memories, and the occasional Studio. I used to subscribe to Cloth,Paper,Scissors but it is getting to be too much fabric art for my tastes.

I usually buy Somerset’s Art Journaling magazine and Memories. I will buy the Somerset Studio when I like the art and articles. I used to subscribe to Cloth, Paper, Scissors but they changed editors and it is more and more sewing now which I don’t do or like.

I love Art Journaling, Craft Paper Scissors, Sommerset. I love to read magazines and look through the pages over and over, but the price of magazines is so high that I have quit buying them. I mostly use the internet to research things I want to find out about, reading everyones blog.

Enough Feathers Lost – Art Journal Page

I got these amazing self carved feather stamps and stencils by the super talented Louise Nelson at CHA. Love her so much for this present and I am playing with them ever since like a happy little kid :)

Enough Feathers Lost – Time to Take a Birds Bath . You always get your feathers ruffled in different stages of your life, right, but there is a point where you have to say ….and move on. chirp chirp ;)

Playing with Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Paints, Derwent Artbars . I also put a bird on it …now it is trendy- LOL

I am still in Love with feathers. I just asked on Twitter a couple of days ago though which of the trends in craft/home decor and fashion you are tired of seeing?

For me it would be Washi Tape, Chevron and Sandal-Roman-Ancle Boots (if you love any of the three- please please don’t take it personally- when you use it, decorate it or wear it – I am sure it is awesome – take the statement as a tongue in cheek comment ;) !)

This is beautiful, Nat! Love the feathers, and the cute bird just finishes it! I don’t like the sheerness of the washi…you can’t put it over anything with a pattern. And I am totally over plastic journaling spots and calendars.

The first thing I thought of when I saw your beautiful layout was real birds losing their feathers as they hit my studio windows! I love having so many windows but that is the bad side. I need to get my kids to make more window gel designs to protect them.

I am sick of seeing chevron and yet really love the chunky chevron stencil and want it. So depends on the chevron. Hate those sandals. And don’t get me started on super low riding jeans…

Washi tape? I am not ready to let go of that one, yet. I was tired of “collage” rubber stamps after the first few but I do dislike them now. I can’t imagine spending full price for a stamp that is so complex and unchangeable.

Love this ,Nat!! Wore those ankle boots, oh and Go Go boots too….bell bottoms twice in a lifetime..didn’t wear a bra for a bit….had Twiggy eye lashes.. Wow I am an old girl!!! ..just got a few Washi tapes….have nothing chevron except some paper in a pack!! Only injustice ruffles my feathers now!!

Haha, Oh I like your posts. Hihi. I’ve never liked the Sandal-Roman thingies. Probably because I don’t like my toes. But I’m still very much in love with my Washi Tapes. Althought I like to make them myself too.

I dont like the Sandal-Roman-Ancle Boots now, and I didn’t like them in the 70s either (yes, I’m sooooo old!), chevrons have never been a favourite but I only just discovered how to use tha washi (thanks to CJS) so I’ll give it a chance

Hate those sandles, but I have ugly ankles. Lol. Love the Chevron, though. You can play with so many colors to get so many different styles and it looks cool on a wall or furniture. Washi tape is over rated and overpriced. 2 out of 3 aint bad. :) Lov ya lots, Nat! And Love your feather art. Very cool.

We will be adding lots of layers and dimension to make this a spring, summer, fall or winter canvas… just as you like. All the techniques can easily be applied to future projects.

En este taller con Cuchy, crearemos un diario desde cero, con una base de encuadernación japonesa.

Un proyecto delicado al que “contar” nuestros pensamientos más secretos.

Personalizaremos nuestro diario creando distintas texturas con gesso, pasta y sellos. Añadiremos color con barras de tinta y profundidad con grafito, para acabar decorándolo con papel, foil y utee.

Una mezcla de técnicas y elementos que estimularán nuestra creatividad.

In this workshop with Cuchy, you will create a personal diary from scratch, using a japanese bookbinding technique.

A delicate project to which “tell” your secret thoughts

You will customize your diary creating textures with gesso, paste and stamps, adding colours with ink blocks and depth with graphite, and embellishing with paper, foil and utee.

A mixture of techniques and elements which will encourage your creativity.

The Whatevers #8 or …Take That

Are you ready for the 8th Whatevers? Last month the three of us weren’t able to pull it off with so much stuff around CHA and Creative JumpStart on our plates. But well…it just means we play a month longer ;)

Here is my take on it

Yes, he was annoyed. Just because he was German he wasn’t stupid. He would build the biggest barrel filled with beer and they’d like him.

Martin surely was grumpy.

I wanted a little bit of an industrial, rost, patina look. Not my usual pick of colors, but this was a good opportunity to do something out of my usual color zone. I used mostly Ranger Distress Paints, Dylusions and Wendy Vecchi’s Embossing Pastes

There is no rules on the artform you choose – it can be a scrapbook layout, an altered art project, an artjournal page – WHATEVER
Here is a rule though: if you take the photo you have to link back to us andshow us your story.

The coppery color is wonderful! I like how you added to the canvas lettering. But, my favorite thing is your take on the photo and your awesome sense of humor! Cracking up!!
