Unleash Your Creativity or…Why I have been biting off my tongue

It has been an insane year already with the move overseas and if you are waiting for an email…bear with me – I am drowning in emails, setting up a cozy home, workshops and … I have been biting off my tongue for many months now because…I have also been working on a huge secret project..which is tied up with something else…and here it is …Can you spy the bigger news that are included in this already (big for me) announcement?

NatKalbach_UnleashCreativity

I am so thrilled and it was hard to not tell anyone…but the biting is not over ;) I so cannot wait to show you the designs when it comes closer to CHA. They are so me and I am very excited about them. Thank YOU my readers for your encouragements over the last years and support – without you, this would have never happened. I have been dreaming of this FOREVER and as some of you know I have been VERY close once to this a couple years ago but alas…it wasn’t supposed to be. But this time…it is – I am holding my babies in my hand already  :) If you are a retailer and interested in taking my class sponsored by Stampendous and Liquitex at CHA – you can sign up starting today November 12th (the CHA website crashed when the registration opened this morning- so they have to fix this)! All others…don’t be sad, there will be lot’s of fun coming up the next months :)

Sending a super big hug with a huge almost-around-the- face-if-not-there-were-ears-smile on my face to you

Nat

You know what I really love about the design kit work that you do? You really push the materials outside the usual image of the company. Prima tends to be this fake flower Vicoriana thing that doesn’t do it for me. But in your hands the same supplies rise above this narrow category. Just when I feel bored and frustrated with sameness, you come along and post something terrific. Thank you again!

Blender Girls …or New Prima Canvas

The five of us are the Blender girls…there is a story to it. We make sure every Winter CHA to meet for a “get out of the blender” talk. These talks have been very successful…blenders have been avoided a lot the last couple months ;) .

Love those girls so there was a canvas in order for this :) It was placed in the Prima CHA Booth and I loved when the girls found it when walking the floor ;)

There is nothing more important than a supportive group of friends in your business life (as well as in your private life- but that mixes then anyway), especially when you are self-employed. I mean this in the German Sense of the word Friend – we call a friend not a friend very easily – we use the word acquaintance or in business life colleague way more often and save the word friend only for close people who you entrust way more than just some random information. It is a cultural difference that I had to learn as it sometimes astonished me when people called me a friend and I barely knew them – LOL- all those little and big cultural differences :)

Wishing you an amazing day

Nat

CHA Winter 2013 – Part II

While I still love wonderfully printed papers, my main focus at CHA was on tools and supplies that support my style in Mixed Media  – so here are some of my favorites I spotted (there is WAY more – I just didn’t take photos of everything)

CHA_20

Melt It by WOW! – you can heat it super quick, quicker than UTEE and you can create 3D embellishments with it- So fun!

CHA_21

Amazing Mold Putty …to make your mounts for the before mentioned for example ;) You bet I have some funky ideas in my head to try out for workshops already. Can’t wait to play with it.

CHA_22

Elizabeth Craft Design with this really cool Silk Microfine Glitter – it feels like velvet and it comes in these amazing colors- just love it!

CHA_23

These Shimmer Sheetz – they are plastic – some are double  cored and they can be dry embossed with the advantage that they are light and won’t go flat again. They can be altered to look like metal or sanded- totally AWESOME!

CHA_25

While I had already some of those texture tools by Princeton– they came out with a couple more- sooo love them.

CHA_26

Biggest Crackles I have seen – this by Kroma Crackle– is in my bag and is yelling to be tried out- I cannot wait!!!

CHA_27

And then there is some people I spent some time with and that was awesome – like Dina

CHA_28

and this picture is making me laugh so hard….even blurry it had to be shared- LOL

CHA_29

ok- let’s play nice – Julie and I – love her so much – I didn’t wanna let her go- I probably choked her quite a bit LOL

CHA_30

couple dinners with my fave girls :)

CHA_31

Bumped into the sweet girls from Scrappies – so looking forward to our workshop weekend in April

CHA_32

and of course my sweet friend Birgit- here I say good-bye and we both cried liked babies. Looking forward seeing her very soon again!

It was a great show! I am inspired and full of ideas for new workshops and new workshop dates- can’t wait to share :)

Have a gorgeous day

CHA Winter 2013 – Part I

It was an awesome show -really- the best one I have been so far. All in all I would say the mood was optimistic and good and you could feel a vibe of “Let’s do this thing and we will rock it!” …if that is an indicator for the overall feel for the industry…it is going upwards again :)

cha01

It was fun taking a class for myself instead of teaching. It was a great time playing with some old and new products and reuse techniques in Dyan’s Class.

cha02

cha03

Loved sitting next to Michelle :)

cha04

I also had a wonderful helper for my designer showcase – very exciting. I didn’t do any decoration and first felt it might be too plain looking at all other designer’s tables, but in the end it was me, my work and you either hate it or like it, so the decoration wouldn’t really change any of that, I thought ;)

cha05_Showcase

There is something wonderful about seeing your business name in print on the show floor – I have to say and I was very happy that my little school science table was received very well :)

cha06

I had awesome dinner with amazing friends …it was wonderful to spent a lot of quality time with friends in the evening and talk about future plans and worries and actions…It was the best thing of the show.

cha07

these are two altered books that I created for the Prima Booth- I will show them in more detail soon.

cha08

I also loved bumping into not only people I met before, but also people who I know for ages online but never met in person. Like Sharmaine! It was so good to hug her and squeeze her and call her my own!

cha09

Totally fell in Love with Julie Fei Fan Balzer Stamps !

cha10

and I loved those quotes on this stamp plate

cha11

I loved the artwork all around, although what I found interesting – I might be wrong …that all in all the emphasis in most booths was on the product display not on artwork as it seemed to be in other years. I would love to hear if other attendance’s thought the same way.

cha13 cha14

Here are some of the stencils- that I worked with at the Crafter’s Workshop Booth – as you can see Julie also has the same stencil design as with the stamp – I love love love that!

cha15

And I loved spying this layout by Ronda with her new awesome stencils too – hehehe- this photo is from Summer CHA 2012 in Chicago.

cha16

Here are two awesome ladies taking my make’n take at the Crafter’s Workshop booth – from Australia and Canada- so wonderful to see them booth :)

cha17

You think this might be my favorite design having it photographed in all different ways? LOL- I love love love it!

cha18

And this post will be finished with this wonderful photo of Joe Rotella, who wears this corset for a good cause. It was for a charity, you had to make a bra yourself and then dance in a flashmob and then that bra/corset was auctioned off. I love this sweater with this awesome corset painted on. And I tell you what- Joe was the ONLY man who agreed doing this- because it was for charity and so he got over the fear of feeling embarrassed just for that. BIG kudos for this and I love him even more for that!

cha19

More photos coming :)

Have a wonderful day

Nat

In my next life I wanna be a kitty …or Prima Canvas

XOCanvas500

I simply adore the ability of cats to sleep totally relaxed everywhere in the most fun or adorable positions. I wish I could do the same. Like on a plane…I soooo can’t sleep on a plane. Maybe it is the fear of sleeping and starting to drool on my neighbors shoulder lol ;)

XOCanvas500_4

This photo is of my brother in laws kitty- don’t get fooled by this sweet innocent sleeping face…this cat is an attack cat – LOL. Nonetheless very cute ;)

XOCanvas500_3

I used Anna’s new metal embellishments for Prima as well as her new stencil- so much fun to create with it for the Prima Booth at CHA.

LOVE this canvas….so much texture..its perfect. The black & white theme with just a splash of color really makes the kitty stand out. I too have issues with sleeping on a plane. I have been on only 1 overseas flight and I was MISERABLE.

Making me want some new Prima! I can NOT sleep on a plane. Even the trips I’ve taken to Australia. I catch up on movies.

I can sleep on a plane or anywhere for that matter. No drool but snoring is a real possibility.

Your layout is lovely as I am a cat lover. And I find it very hard to sleep on a plane just in case I droul or snore lol.

Beautiful layout, love all the layers and your color choices and the embellishments! And the kitty is cute too. I haven’t flown in so long I don’t know if I could sleep on a plane or not. I would probably be too scared or excited to sleep since it’s been so long! Safe travels, and thanks so very much for Jumpstart!!!!

I cannot sleep on the way there, but on the way back I am soooo tired that I can’t stay awake! Really nice cat piece — good balance and love the subtle color.

Sorry to admit it Nathalie – I too am like a cat. I can sleep anywhere…even in the noisiest of places. Sleep is such a precious commodity – I squeeze it in wherever I can…yet I was also too wound up to sleep on the plane…so I’m feeling the jetlag today. Hope you have a wonderful break before your travels home :)

Waving from L.A. …or Kermit The Frog

Only in L.A. can Kermit have his own star :) Love it.

Birgit Koopsen and I arrived after almost 24 hours traveling in L.A. and had a lot of fun doing a bit sightseeing for a day. Now we are at CHA and it is crazy crazy busy and fun. I will post some pictures soon.

such a shame with the weather Nat. but I know it won’t dampen any of your spirit, just make it even more memorable. How many can say they were there for the coldest period since 1922. enjoy
