Energy – Art Journal

“Focus on your energy and let the universe handle everything else.” Always a good idea to keep in mind.

This background was somewhat of a journey :) I built a pattern using my Solid Hex Large, Solid Square Small, Hex Set Small and Small Circle Jumble rubber stamps… then toned it down with gesso and acrylic paint and my Jazzed and Gnarly foam stamps.

I also added some details with a white signo pen to highlight the circles in the spread. And I did my journaling.

Here are some of the supplies I used in this spread:

Interesting Book – Art Journal

“Tomorrow will be a new chapter in my life. This book is getting very interesting.”

For the background I used the Van Vorst and Versailles rubber stamps from my Floral Tile Large set. Then I went back in with water color to bring out certain areas of the pattern.

The red was spray paint that I had on a stencil and cleaned off on the page before getting started. I loved the little snippets of the paint as random marks.

Until I Make It – Art Journal

“The place in which I’ll fit will not exist… until I make it” – James Baldwin

I stamped my background with my Solid Square Small and Large rubber stamps, along with the Beacon stamps from the Small Hex and Large Hex sets.

And then I used gesso and Holbein gouache to fade out the stamped areas a bit. On top I stamped my Gnarly and Jazzed foam stamps for some extra marks.

I’m digging the subtle patchwork in the background.

Finally I added my quote with a Fude pen.

Art Journal Flip Through – 09/2019

I wanted to share a little Flip Through video of my newly finished art journal.

I keep about 4-5 journals at the same time so they are always filled with an eclectic mix. This one brings back some good memories (from just a few days ago lol) from the Stencilbop Challenge – the place to go if you need inspiration for using those stencils. Looks like there’s also some playing in there from my rubber stamp release this past spring – loved making patterns with those.

Do you keep more than 1 art journal? How quickly do you fill them up?

Nothing But Confusion – Art Journal

“I have nothing to offer… except my own confusion.” Jack Kerouac

I began by inking up the page , then spritzing water drops and taking it off with a rag.

You may have noticed that I messed up the title- made me almost abandon the spread but then I realized apparently I do really have only confusion to offer ;)

Confusion and patterns lol. Here I used the Fan-fare set and also the Topper stamp from the Small Circle Jumble set. On the other side of the spread I used the Topper stamp from the Large Circle Jumble set – pretty cool to use for a pattern.

Deep Breath – Art Journal

“She took a deep breath and let it go!”

My patterned background began with my Ornament Wallpaper stencil, then I filled in with the Floral Tile Small set. Next I layered in with my new Solid Hex Small rubber stamp.

And the final touch was layering on top a stamp from my nice little Fanfare set. I used Gouache by Holbein for the stencil- the rest was Moonlight duo ink.

It’s fun to see how the stamps and stencils can work so nicely together.

The final touch was the girl, I drew her using Holbein black ink and their refillable marker. Love the density of their ink and that marker is perfect for all kinds of sketching.

Courage – Art Journal

“Today I choose courage over comfort!” – Brene Brown

I used moon light duo ink with a ranger blending tool through my Art Deco stencil – and then added Fan-fare stamps.

I made the sketch on deli paper with Holbein ink and painted a bit on the sketch with Holbein gouache paint.

For journaling I also used the Holbein ink filled in a refillable Holbein marker – a fun new tool that I am loving.

Glimpse of the Future – Art Journal

“…She was excited to get a glimpse of her future…”

I began stamping out a background with the Space Oddity stamp from my Hex Set Small rubber stamp set. Then I found the Beacon Positive stamp from that set looked pretty awesome filling in the negative space to make a star design.

I went in further with a stamp from the Fanfare set. Really happy with this new background pattern!

I also added this ink drawing on deli paper, adhering it with some gel medium.

Let It Go – Art Journal

My inspiration for this page was Mary Oliver’s poem In Blackwater Woods. To create the background I stamped with my Buenos Aires foam stamp and my Floral Tile Large rubber stamps. Then I added the Floral Tile Small and Fanfare stamps.

To soften the background I used a thin layer of white spray paint and then painted areas with black gesso.

I journaled with a white calligraphy pen.
