designed by n*Studio features: Riikka Kovasin

One of the things that make me really giddy is when I spy someone using my new stamps by Stampendous or also my Stencils with StencilGirl Products :) So I thought once in a while I would feature the work of those wonderful talented people with a new Series called: designed by n*Studio features:…..

And today I feature: Riikka Kovasin

I met Riikka several times online and offline as my student in my Mixed Media classes and it has always been a delight to have this super talented girl. I love what she did with my stamps and templates so without further ado..here is what Riikka has to say and show herself :)

me

Hello there! I am Riikka Kovasin. I’m a mixed media style scrapbooker from Finland. I adore getting my hands into paints and mists! To me the process of creating is equally important than the finished page. I think that scrapbooking is a form of self-expression and I’m creating pages partly because of that and partly because I want to document our lives to my two children.

nat2

I was fortunate enough to meet Nathalie during an event by her and Birgit Koopsen in the Netherlands. There I got the chance to see her stencils live and bought myself one of them. I immediately fell in love with the crackle stencil and now I only regret that I didn’t get other designs, too! I’ve used the stencil in several projects already and my husband was inspired by it when he was designing his guitar. In these projects I used it to make an embossed piece of vellum.

nat2d1

I like how versatile the pattern is and how you can create a subtle effect with it or go bold. It goes perfectly to vintage style, but can also be used in modern ones!

nat1

When I first saw Nathalie’s stamp designs I knew I had to get some! They are so perfect for backgrounds and layering! They’re unique in their designs and have a lovely mixed media feeling in them.

nat1d2

I love the circular designs and my absolute favorite is the stitched style circle.

nat1d3

And who wouldn’t like something extra – I love the fact that all the sets include a stencil, too!

nat3

I used the extra stencil in the other layout to create the background and the “Wired” stamp set in both layouts and the cards.

nat3d1

Thank you so much Riikka, I love how you used the Crackle Stencil on the vellum and the beautiful colorful way with embossing powders you used the stencil in the Wired Stamp Set as well as the Stamps. Gorgeous!

I just used one of Nat’s stamps to do a background page in my art journal (the long one that looks like a weaving).

One of the things that make me really giddy is when I spy someone using my new stamps by Stampendous or also my Stencils with StencilGirl Products :) So I thought once in a while I would feature the work of those wonderful talented people with a new Series called: designed by n*Studio features:…..

And today I feature: Judi Kauffman

Judi and I met several years ago at CHA and ever since I have been blessed by her friendship, advice and honest opinion in many fields of my artistic life. I am super stoked that Judi played with my stamps and templates – and she even wrote a tutorial for the cards she created. Here is what she has to say and more about herself (Judi has no blog- so leave some love here for her)

JudiAndPuppies

About Judi:

Judi Kauffman wears, and has always worn, many hats at the same time. She is a designer, writer, and teacher who has worked in the craft industry for over 25 years. She has also been a graphic artist, art director, photo stylist, illustrator, and weaver. She has an undergraduate degree in printmaking and a master’s in fibers. Judi’s projects, articles, and reviews appear in a wide variety of magazines, she works for several manufacturers in design and product development. She is a frequent guest artist for Elizabeth Craft Designs, Walnut Hollow, StencilGirl Products, and other manufacturers. She has also written five books (alas, all now out of print).

Thank you for inviting me! My project: Cards made with nothing but rectangles! But there are other options for stamped and stenciled Shimmer Sheetz: Mat and frame your creations instead of using them for card fronts. Incorporate pieces into art journals and mixed media projects. Stamp and stencil with alcohol inks formulated for non-porous surfaces instead of paint (StazOn). Stitch the layers instead of using adhesive (set the machine to 5-6 stitches per inch, or use a piercing tool and hand-sew).

JudiKauffman01

1. Stamp and stencil three 5” x 12” pieces (one package) of Fire Opal Gemstones Shimmer Sheetz using acrylic craft paint (shown: Primary Yellow, Sea Breeze, Metallic Bronze, and Traditional Raw Umber – or choose your own combination).

2. When the paint is dry, cut 2 of the pieces into thirds, each piece measuring 4” x 5”, for six of the cards.

3. Cut the remaining piece into assorted smaller rectangles, at least 5 of which are sized at 2.5” x 3.5”.

4. Cut a piece of cardstock measuring 9” x 5.5” for each card base (make seven). Score and fold in half (card size: 4.5” x 5.5”, folded at the left).

***Use double-sided adhesive strips for steps 5, 7, and 8.

5. Center and adhere a 4” x 5” Shimmer Sheetz rectangle on six card bases. Center and adhere a 2.5” x 3.5” piece of solid color cardstock on the seventh card base.

6. For added texture, emboss some of the small rectangles with Lots of Dots embossing folder, lightly sand to tone down the shine and highlight the dots.

7. Mat some of the small rectangles onto solid color cardstock, leaving a narrow border.

8. Arrange and rearrange the pieces, layering them as shown or as you prefer. Attach the layers. (Use the last couple of scraps for the seventh card.)

9. Using strong-hold Tombow Power Tabs to secure embellishments (found objects, beads, gems, charms, fibers).

10. Cards with low relief, unbreakable embellishments can be mailed in standard envelopes, others should be delivered in person or mailed between sturdy cardboard in a padded envelope.

Note: Shimmer Sheetz is reflective and difficult to capture in photographs, it changes color depending on the light and angle at which it’s viewed! Fire Opal is my favorite, but there are over 20 other choices (including sampler packs).

I think I have that butterfly :P I’ve never worked with shimmer sheets, but I love that change of colors from different angles. I love the patterns you made with the stencils, stamps and inks. And I really like the cards with the gem and the butterfly. I’m not usually one for blig, but it’s the perfect complement. And the dice you used, so cute! (I’m a rpg girl, too:P)

Brenda, Shimmeer Sheetz is waterproof, colorfast (garment-quaity) Mylar so it can be used for projects like these cards as well as to make embellishments for art quilts, mixed media – and I’ve made custom sequins for clothing, too. Nathalie included the link to the company in the supply list.

Wow, love these cards! I’ve used Shimmer Sheetz a lot, and I think the use of these stamps with acrylic paint shows yet another cool use of those Sheetz. I know the cards must be even more stunning in person when you see the shine of the Shimmer Sheetz come through between the paint. Very cool stamps, by the way. The one that looks like a sunburst looks really cool on the cards. Well done, both of you! :-)

Sore Today, Strong Tomorrow or… Card

NatKalbach_SoreTodayCard

I made this card for my trainer Kim at the gym. We had a little surprise party for her since she is leaving and we all had a great time with her. In fact…she was a great motivator and kept me sane right after I moved from Germany. She is a big reason for being able to deal with homesickness a lot…having a daily goal to go to the gym and socializing with her and other neighbors has been good for me. Glad I will still see her though for kickboxing workout (yeah man…LOL…I am doing it …it is good for me ;) )

The saying on the card is actually by my trainer- I love that one…it can be adapted to many other things too ;)

NatKalbach_SoreTodayCard02

It was a pretty big card…we all had to sign…while eating bagels, cream cheese and biscuits…hello carbs and love handle adding food  – LOL :)

Here is what I used for the card

One of the things that make me really giddy is when I spy someone using my new stamps by Stampendous or also my Stencils with StencilGirl Products :) So I thought once in a while I would feature the work of those wonderful talented people with a new Series called: designed by n*Studio features:…..

And today I feature: Cheiron Brandon

cheiron

Cheiron has been stamping and making cards since she took her first card making class in 2004. She has been published in Paper Crafts Magazine and teaches card making classes at The Ink Pad in NYC and One Little Spark in Little Egg Harbor, NJ .  Recently she has started art journaling and loves mixing those techniques into her cards. By day, she works in the financial district and loves coming home at night to relax at her craft table.  She lives in New Jersey with her husband Paul and their adorable rescue dog Big Boy.

And here are Cheiron’s amazing cards using my stamps and what she wrote about them:

house card by Cheiron Brandon_

I am always looking for different ways to use my stamps and I thought it would be fun to use them on cards. For the first one, I used the shapes to create a landscape to fit my tiny house. The circle became a “sun”, the dots “clouds” and the mesh type stamp was stamped in two different greens to create the “grass”. I used the stencils that come with the stamp sets to create the patterned paper that I cut the house out of.

in my heart card by Cheiron Brandon_

For the second card I used the burlap stamp and embossed it with some tan embossing powder. It is the perfect stamp to ground an object on a card without adding a lot of bulk.  The little heart was cut out of some scraps that I had made into a collage.

work of art card by Cheiron Brandon_

For the last card, I created “a work of art” by using Distress paints in dusty concord, evergreen bough and tarnished brass to paint directly on the stamp. A simple greeting makes it complete.
I love using these stamps in my art journaling, but am also glad that they are so versatile that card makers can use them as well.
—–
Thank You Cheiron for sharing your wonderful cards with me. I so love how you used the in so many different ways, creating backgrounds, whimsical landscapes and grounding totally related to the sentiments on the cards. LOVE!
Please check out Cheiron’s Blog– she posts heaps of inspiring projects there and I am sure you will enjoy it!

If you have done something with my stamps or stencils I would sure love to see :)

Follow the White Rabbit …or Frohe Ostern

hop

Happy Easter and welcome to the Easter blog hop! Today is the day when we tumble-down the rabbit’s hole and hop after the White Rabbit. The rabbit hops from blog to blog, from country to country all around the cyber scrapbooking world!

Although the countries and styles vary and designers participating had a free choice what to create for the hop, the pieces of art have all something in common. If you’re familiar with Alice in Wonderland, you might remember that the White Rabbit, which Alice followed and found the Wonderland, had a pocket watch. So in this hop the common theme is the time piece. You can find an interpretation or a way to incorporate a clock in every creation! Inspiring, right?

So please hop along and remember to leave a comment at every stage! That way you ensure as many tickets for the raffle as possible. You’ll have just a week to participate (to April 8th at noon GMT) for the giveaway put together from donations from 7 Dots Studio, BadgesFolie, Garn&Mehr, Stromsvigt and Wycinanka.

So enjoy the hop and find the inspiring Wonderland of scrapbooking!

So here is my take on the Follow The White Rabbit Easter Hop – I was inspired by the cute logo so I had to use this for my easter cards :)

EasterCard01

Supplies: Theresa Collins Stationary Noted Paper Collection, Autumn Leaves Stamps, Prima Marketing Clock, Liquitex Acrylic Ink, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L E-Z Squares, Ranger Archival Ink
