12 Days of California Part II: My Stampendous Stamps Debut at CHA

NatKalbach_Stampendous04

Seeing my own stamp designs and my photo at the Stampendous Booth was sooooo cool.

NatKalbach_Stampendous05

I came into the Convention Center a little bit before my class started and took a peek at the booth…(the show wasn’t open to the public yet)

NatKalbach_Stampendous06

I was all by myself and I was looking at this in disbelieve- it honestly felt unreal as if the alarm clock would ring the next minute to make me wake up and realize this was just a dream. Instead my alarm went off that I would have to run to my first CHA class ever- 50 Retailers – waiting to play with my Stamps and other Stampendous Products.

NatKalbachCHAClass

It was a fun class- and after an uncomfortable two seconds realizing that someone hung a microphone on my clothes “FREAK- I never had a mic while teaching” I got the hang out of it, as I already started loosing my voice after teaching the last two days six classes at ArtVenture. I was also happy to see some familiar faces from either working together before or students that took my ArtVenture Class- that was fun!

NatKalbach_Stampendous01

Teaching Retailers is definitely different. A lot of my students in this class did not come because they love Mixed Media- but because they wanted to get educated in Mixed Media and learn about it because they realized there is a huge demand for it in their stores. It was a very different approach in this class when my usual let loose and get creative.  I enjoyed when some of them that never played with paint told me they liked it a lot and get their costumer love for it :) Right on ;)

NatKalbach_Stampendous02

And btw not every teacher at CHA as a good friend like JumpStarter Joe Rotella who comes with a chef hat into your class to deliver lunch because he knows you never eat right at CHA ;) Thank you Joe- that made me laugh so hard…too bad I had a mic – my already loud laughing must have scared my students a lot – LOL

NatKalbach_Stampendous03

I learned a lot  by teaching this class and hopefully there will be another opportunity for a CHA class in the future. I loved seeing my stamps being used – it made me all giddy :)

NatKalbach_Stampendous14

NatKalbach_Stampendous19

Thank you Liquitex, Speedball,  May Arts and Imagine Crafts(Tsukineko) for sponsoring my Stampendous Class!

NatKalbach_Stampendous09

I demoed also a couple days at the Stampendous booth…until I lost my voice totally – but hey…I sounded really interesting- LOL

NatKalbach_Stampendous10

NatKalbach_Stampendous20

And I loved having friends over and Cindy Bundy from the Stampendous Designteam showing me her sample

NatKalbach_Stampendous11

Thank you to all of you who took my CHA Class and came to see my demos ! Thank you also to the awesome Stampendous Staff who did such an amazing job behind the scenes and helped me during and after my classes!

I am going to add a list of the stores that cary my stamps to my website here soon – they are already available and I know some stores have them already in the house :)

More about CHA and which trends I observed will follow :)

have a gorgeous day

huge hugs

I’m so proud of you and your growth in the mixed media field.
It didn’t dawn on me that you would be teaching retailers, but that makes sense when I thing of who attends CHA. I bet most of them had fun even if they started the day with thoughts of getting info just for their customers.
You r-o-c-k Nat and now more of the creative world knows it!

12 Days of California Part I: Prima Art*Venture

NatKalbach_ArtVenture11

I am back from my 12 day long trip to California – it was insane…as in insane work and fun! Well…always good if you can combine both words fun AND work. I am exhausted but nonetheless I want to share some events along the trip- let’s start with the Prima Art*Venture Workshop Retreat. 160 students – 2 days- six workshops – fun…and a toast voice.

NatKalbach_ArtVenture02

We set up the class rooms till late night the day before the event – look at all the class kits:

NatKalbach_ArtVenture01

I taught a Wallhanger Class with the new Stationer’s Desk Line by Prima – here is the project and some details
NatKalbachHeritageRoad01

NatKalbachHeritageRoad02

NatKalbachHeritageRoad03

I had a great time with the wonderful students attending the classes – from all over the country and also from Europe and Asia- so amazing!

160 Students- 160 different ways to create the wall hanger- here are just two:

It was fun spending time with the other teachers and friends from Prima including Sharon, Carrie, Anna, Steffi, Jamie, Limor and Frank as well as Denny who did such a fab job on organizing the event. Thank you also to Elena and my two wonderful helpers Cam and Lisa from Charity Wings– you girls rocked!

lunch

(last picture stolen from Sharon ;) ) I did not take that many photos – I am missing most of my sweet people- but oh well- LOL- sorry ;)

Thank you all – also for taking care of me when I got food poisoning or whatever it was what made me sick and dizzy at the end of my fifth class – I am glad I was able to at least finish the instructions and laying down for half an hour in between really helped me to be able to go through the rest of the day and last class.

Tomorrow I will tell more about my class at CHA and the debut of my stamps with Stampendous :)

have a gorgeous day

In this one-day workshop Nathalie and Julie will share their favorite techniques for experimenting with paint, stenciling, layering, and composing pleasing collages.

Nathalie and Julie’s approaches are different but similar and this is a unique opportunity to get both points-of-view in the same class!

Whatevers Round 2 #7…or Weird But Happy

the WHATEVERS 2 A

Are you ready for the 6th photo of the Second Round of Whatevers? If you missed what the Whatevers is all about or want to see all the past photos and takes…check it out here.

Click here to see what Cat, Vicki, Martha and Cuchy made out of the photo and which story they tell. (I will add the missing links later- since I am at CHA we couldn’t get all links together ahead of time )

Here is my take:

SwNatKalbach01

Journaling: Some People thought they were a weird couple, but they just had a fun and wonderful time and he carried her on his hands.

SwNatKalbach02

The tutorial on how I made this and what I used is part of Creative JumpStart today :) So if you signed up- check it out at noon EST :)

SwNatKalbach03

And here is the photo of this month’s Whatever for you:

Whatevers7NatKalbach

Here is how it works

  • Vicki, Cat, Cuchy (Carmen), Martha and I and I have made a one-year commitment to each other and picked twelve photos with Whatevers whom we will give a story.
  • Every month – if possible always on the 15th –  each of us will do a post with an individual story that goes along for us with the same photo.
  • If you want you can play along and we will have the photo for you to download and show us your version of The Whatevers. The photo will be posted at the end of our blogposts- not on Facebook!
  • There is no rules to the story itself- it can be funny, sad, uplifting, breathtaking- WHATEVER
  • There is no rules on the length or the form of the story– it can be a short sentence, an essay, a poem or a soap opera – WHATEVER
  • There is no rules on the artform you choose – it can be a scrapbook layout, an altered art project, an artjournal page – WHATEVER
  • Here is a rule though: if you take the photo you have to link back to us and show us your story.
  • These pictures are from our personal stash and are for personal use for you only! If you want to use them for a publication whether a book or magazine in print or digital form please ask for permission!
  • If you want to participate we’ll have a linky list for each Whatever Post.
  • You can also join our The Whatevers -Facebook Page

thank you :)

My Favorite Tool: A Brayer

NatKalbachFaveTool

If you ask me what my all time favorite Tool is …well besides my fingers ;) – it is a brayer. The versatility of a brayer is just immense. You can use it for printing, mixing colors together, stamping, background creating, you can make sure things get applied evenly, you can use it for mono printing, even painting. You can use it with acrylic paints, with inks, with spray paints, with acrylic media – it is just the coolest thing in the world :) Well…at least in my world. I even did once (2008) a whole class on brayer techniques and it was a lot of fun.

Here are three tutorials I posted the last couple months where the brayer played a big role :)

Positive/Negative Stenciling

Brayer Technique Background

So, what’s not to love about a brayer? ;)

Gesso Texture Technique or ….1 more day till CJS14

CJSUberMediaOWSLOGO

Those of you who were part of the Creative JumpStart 2013 saw the videos that me and my artist friends posted on my website throughout January 2013.  The event was free that year, but the videos are not available here anymore, since CJS 2013 was only available till June,  but I thought it would be nice to repost my 10 technique videos over the next couple weeks- so that you have access to them whenever you want and see what CJS 2013 was all about.

And now let’s jump to the video Number 9 in my Über*Media Creative JumpStart 2013 Workshop which was the Gesso Texture Technique :)

If you have no external speakers on your pc – turn up the volume a lot (the audio is very low in this video)

CJS 2013 Technique 9 -Gesso Texture from Nathalie Kalbach on Vimeo.

It is only 1 more day till Creative JumpStart 2014 starts. It is the third year CJS is happening!!!

Don’t miss out on this! We have 21 artists, 23 videos with wonderful projects and tutorials,  amazing giveaways and an already hopping forum and all that for less than 1Dollar per video (20Dollar for the whole event)! Sign up here !

And here are my supplies I used for the Gesso Texture Video above:
