Photos of the Workshop at The Ink Pad, NYC

kalbachartrulescollage

I had such a wonderful time teaching my Art Rules Workshop at The Ink Pad in NYC. It was a two day workshop and we explored lots of wonderful artists.

kalbachartrules01

We created a huge amount of pattern using my new ArtFoamies designs which were …quite liked :)

kalbachartrules02

We played with color combinations

kalbachartrules03

and pushed and pulled layers in our art journals

kalbachartrules04

kalbachartrules05

and ….even played with some not yet released supplies …can you spy them ?

kalbachartrules06

The second day we had to move into a different class room due to a little mistake by Westbeth but due to the amazing organization skills of Anna from The Ink Pad and our wonderful and helpful students, that wasn’t a big deal and we actually liked our second home a lot – it was a real printmaking studio.

kalbachartrules07

It was such a wonderful group of students,

kalbachartrules08

lots of laughter during the class

kalbachartrules10

and happy faces

kalbachartrules11

and beautiful artwork

each student exploring their own style.

kalbachartrules13

Combining new and old techniques

kalbachartrules14

and getting out of the box to be rewarded with awesome results.

Aren’t they the cutest?

Everyone was working for three day, creating covers, painting, stamping, stenciling, book binding – getting messy fingers and tables:) It was so much fun! I loved the class room with high tables and high top chairs, making it possible for everyone to choose to work standing up or sitting. Since I work standing up- this was a dream :)

Looking through your workshop at dear Rachel Greig’s Darkroom Door Workshop on the Central Coast reminiscing about how much I learnt from you and Julie. Watching other creatives interpretate your demonstrations into art was so much fun. I see you have shown two pages of my own and also a photo of me smiling happily while working on my album. I feel like an accomplished artist now ☺️. I wanted to look back on this workshop because it was a great accomplishment for Rachel to bring you to the Central Coast. Thanks for the wonderful memories of friendship and art.

Mixed Media Circus Workshop at Artified in Melbourne, Australia

KalbachArtified collage

I am back from Australia where I taught some amazing Art Journaling Classes with my friend Julie Fei-Fan Balzer. Here are the photos of the 3-day-class at Artified in Melbourne where the wonderful students created an art journal – from painting pages using loads of art journaling techniques and creating a nice cover to binding everything into their own book together in the end.

KalbachArtified01

We started Friday with loads of fun coloring techniques.

KalbachArtified02

They were all in such a wonderful mood- and some traveled very far from Tasmania and even far away from Adelaide.

KalbachArtified03

KalbachArtified04

I really make a grumpy face when I create something- but I assure you ….I am in a good mood :)

Blooper Reel! Acrylic Painting Workshop Outtakes

Last year in November I went to the F+W studio to record some Acrylic Painting Workshop videos, which are being released at the moment. But…because I like to laugh…I thought, you might enjoy this blooper reel with all kinds of silly outtakes from the 4 day shoot.

Did you hear me snort? I snort when I laugh hysterically, are you a “laugh-snorter” too?

I hope you laughed as much as I did because, hey – we all need a good laugh once in a while ;)

Upcoming in March: Workshop in Oklahoma!

ArtRulesWorkshopNat

Just a short reminder that I am teaching March 4-6, 2016 – Art Rules- Art in Translation – at My Heart’s Fancy in Edmond, Oklahoma – there are still a couple seats open and it is one of the few in-person workshops I am teaching this year due to the book:

Let’s explore several master artists and get inspired by their artwork and techniques to create wonderful and unique art journal pages.Whether it be Andy Warhol’s cheating technique or Rothko’s amazing color combinations, there are many different Master Artists whose masterful skills can serve as a starting point for your own artwork.  Find out what you like and what works for you.  Learn about opacity and layering, colors, troubleshooting, mixing materials, making your own tools, creating backgrounds and patterns.  We will work with acrylic paints, inks, markers, wax bars and other paint media to create dimension and texture.  We will make the most of stencils, stamps, mono printing plates and generic tools to make our own mark.  Get ready to Rule Your Art Journal!

Friday, the 4th: 4 pm to 8 pm
Saturday, the 5th: 10 am to 6 pm (1 hour for lunch)
