We Shall Overcome – Art Journal

We’ll walk hand in hand, we’ll walk hand in hand,
We’ll walk hand in hand someday;
Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe,
We’ll walk hand in hand someday.

– “We Shall Overcome”

This art journal page is a study for a painting – one that is very of-the-moment you could say. I used acrylic paint, spray paints, gouache and markers and decided to go really bold with colors. I used my Signals stencil for added texture on the building.

I used my Tokyo stencil for the pattern in the background.

I have sung this song so many times in the past.
For/with battered women and to fight that stigma of mental illness…it’s such a great way to unite people around an “issue”.

No Feeling Final – Art Journal

“Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.” – Rainer Maria Rilke. This quote really lifted me up the other day when I needed some lifting.

I used some collage paper in this one – deli paper and magazine paper which I layed over my Art Deco Summit and Art Deco Fairview stencils and then rubbed with sanding paper to reveal texture and pattern.

Along with acrylic paint, gesso, the collage paper, and gel medium, for my background I also stamped with my Triangle Love rubber stamps.

I added the quote in black and white to help give it some dimension.

Interesting – Art Journal

Just some thoughts on what is deemed essential in the age of covid-19. This art journal spread is also a study for a painting of a liquor store close by – I love the scaffolding and the look of the building as well as the old signs.

I used acrylic paints and markers to create the buildings and add detail.

I also stamped one of my Mini Motifs stamps in gold to give the background a delicate pattern.

Walking Through Fire – Art Journal

“What matters most is how well you walk through the fire.” Hoping to see everyone on the other side when all this has passed.

I created some star shaped patterns using my new Triangle Love rubber stamp set, along with my Floral Tile Large and Small sets. I love finding new ways that all of these stamps work together. Pattern building is definitely a good zen activity.

I also used a pencil eraser for the pink dots here and there – the little details tie everything together.

Falling Chunks – Art Journal

“You don’t believe the sky is falling until a chunk of it falls on you!” – Margaret Atwood

My background is acrylic paint and then some of my new Wabi Sabi rubber stamps and MoonLight Duo ink pads.

I used a fude pen for the journaling…

And I sketched my figure in ink.

Together – Art Journal

“We are in this together! All will be good!” Hope this page finds you well and coping with everything ok.

For my background I used Daniel Smith’s gold gesso and then stamped over that with my new Mini Motifs set and my Solid Triangle Small.

Then I added a bit of color with some fine point Posca markers and used a pencil eraser for the dots with an ink pad.

I think I might also be channeling a little bit of Klimt here too. Speaking of- you can still sign up for my Artful Adventures with Gustav Klimt Workshop here – check it out – it is super fun!

Controlling Thoughts – Art Journal

“You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.” Thinking about thinking today :)

I created this primary color background using my new Triangle Love stamp set and the Stained Glass Triangle and Solid Triangle Large and Small stamps from that set.

Sometimes there is something so refreshing about using just the basics.

Chasing Glitter – Art Journal

“Don’t lose a diamond while chasing glitter”

For my background I am using my new Triangle Love set – the Sunburst Triangle and the Solid Triangle Small – with a gray versafine ink pad and acrylic paints.

I created a kind of all over wallpaper style background pattern.

And then added my quote with a Posca marker.

Keep Calm – Art Journal

Keep Calm and Wash Your Hands! – I guess I was inspired by the new normal, which has always been good advice.

For this one I want to share with you a Shapebuilder tip – how to use several of my rubber stamps to build cool patterns and shapes.

To make the pattern here I combined the following stamps: the Hex Set Small, Solid Fan Small, and two stamps from the Fan-Fare set. It is reminiscent of a peacock or art deco fan. I could imagine mixing up the colors for all different versions. Fun to play with the possibilities.

For my background I used the stamps and Moonlight duo ink pads to create the shape, also Arcylic Gouache and acrlyic paint. For my quote I used a Posca super fine black marker and a White signo pen.

I sketched the figure in ink. She looks calm… hoping to channel that vibe :)
