Move On – Art Journal

Lately I wonder why I have wasted so much time in my live worrying about what other people think. I am glad I am at a stage where I move on :)

I used my new Van Vorst Stencil with  green and teal Spray paint on a copper and gold painted background.  I painted the lady with acrylic paint and gouache.

I love my new Van Vorst Stencil …the floral design makes me happy and green and blue on copper and gold always reminds me of old buildings ..hey you think I am weird? Well …LOL

    Interesting thought Nat. When I hit 40 I found I can’t much less about what others thought.
    Once I hit 50 I must say that I pretty much don’t care at all what people think.
    As long as I’m kind and not hurting anyone, I do what my spirit moves me to do.
    Which includes singing in public and saying hi to all dogs that I meet on the street (much to the embarrassment of my teenage son).

Stroll Through the Hood – September 2018

Time for a Stroll Through the Hood . Strolls through my hood get me out of my studio, they help me unstuck and often I get inspired by what I see and to get new ideas to create something. It is part of my philosophy about Artful Adventures in Mixed Media – which is the subject of my book. Here are some photos that I gathered in the last couple weeks.

Enjoying the gorgeous light and skylights in the evening while sitting on the deck – we love eating outside and do so almost everyday for dinner when weather allows.

Some fun little dog hedges I saw when walking through the hood.

I love brick – there is something so cool and rough about it -but I also love how this old green sprinkler alarm looks on the brick wall. And the font mix is pretty pretty cool too.

The amazing boarded houses you discover while taking a bike tour through the city- such a pretty house – I wonder if it will ever restored or just torn down.

Also loved finding this old fashioned sign – so fun!

On the way home after a nice night out with my girlfriends.

The pedestrian area in Jersey City all painted for the Pride Week- so much fun!

Some people know Jersey City only from its most ugly side- the street to the Holland Tunnel to go into NYC …but at least there is a gigantic mural there now …a glimpse of color.

And sorry …LOL- cannot help myself – I have a hard time leaving the house lately because Bobby Pretzel (check him out on instagram) is just so adorable.


He loves to discover new places and play fetch – and makes me laugh a LOT :) Very inspiring. But I will be in trouble as soon as he can hop onto my workbench in the studio :)

Deep thinking – Art Journal

A bit simpler art journal spread  using my new Flower Maze Stencil with  spray paint.

Ink sketch on deli paper and some writing.

It was a fast art journal spread to get some thoughts down. Not a bad thing when you are in a time crunch :)

    I love the dotty, spotty, spritzy effect you got with the spray paint. And of course you used my FAVORITE hex shape! Does the paint clean up easily?

Flower Maze Happy Birthday Card!

Lately I have fun making cards. I don’t like to spend a crazy amount of time on them but when I have no time for painting or art journaling it is such a fun way to spent some time with paint and ..never bad to have some of those handy :)

I taped an area of my new Flower Maze Stencil to make sure I just stencil inside the hexagon which kind of represents a flower for me :)

I used a cosmetic sponge and dabbed it in different colors of acrylic paints which were next to each other on a paint palette. The pouncing left some raised textured areas which I really love. I am such a sucker for texture :)

I used a black pen and outlined some areas and then wrote my Bday song around the flower. That was fun. Here is the card again

Now …let’s see who gets this card for the birthday – it is ready to go :)

Get it – Art Journal

“Ask for what you want and be prepared to …get it”

I started out the background playing by stamping the Space Oddity and the Mini Oddity Stamp with acrylic paint on top of each other which I liked very much.

I then added a layer of green and yellow ink over it- which I liked a lot as well- but the two stamps are almost too subtle now. I love that I now know though that the two on top work great and are a fun way to add a new pattern as well.

I painted the lady with loose brush strokes and black acrylic paint on top – it was a fun page to play and try some different things. And that is what an art journal often is about for me- trying and playing and just going along.

Don’t stand still – Art Journal Spread

We cannot become what we want if we remain to be what we are.

Using the new Star Struck stencil I dabbed a cosmetic sponge in different colors of acrylic paint and then pounced them through the stencil.

I sketched the lady and painted her using watercolor and gouache.

I really like how this turned out – I really have to do more with watercolor and gouache.

Decay – Art Journal Spread

I see beauty in decay, because I see beauty in what was, what is and what is yet to come. Isn’t that such a freeing and exciting way to look at things?

I used my new Downtown Stencil over a background which I had painted and also adhered masking tape too.

I love the pattern – well yeah —-um I am partial I guess ;)

    Yes I do, as long as it’s not me. LOL
    Especially decaying trees and old remains of stone/brick buildings.
    I like to imagine the lives that they’ve had!
