Fragmented J.C. Canvas

DefragmentedJC

The last couple weeks I was working on a new 27.5×31.5 inches canvas. I had back in Hamburg already created a Hamburg themed one for the other side (below) and brought an identical canvas so that I could do a Jersey City Theme.

I  cannot wait to hang the second canvas and I hope it will be looking as good up there as the other one. Lady Liberty btw ….I know you think NYC, right? pffff- no way…she is standing with her back to Jersey City…meaning she is in OUR yard…not NYC’s yard ;)

I am up for another canvas this size…but I might have to rethink the wall spacing problem soon ;)

Have a wonderful day

Love…It’s in the little things

NatKalbach_LoveShadowbox_01

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you!

How about a funky Love shadowbox today?

NatKalbach_LoveShadowbox_02

I whitewashed the wooden canvas with gesso – as I wanted to have the wood grain still peaking through and then stamped right onto it and used the template in my stamp set with different acrylic colors. I also included some of my old beloved Hambly Rubons and some Prima Washi Tape. I cut out some of of my stamped images for the stems and stamped also on cork again – I just love the look of acrylic paint on cork. I put a supply list for you below.

Kristia, I like it. I am not sure what might cause your problems- but it might be “too much” paint. Roll out thinner layers- you really do not need much paint for the prints. Hope that helps. nat

Quirky J.C. or Mish Mesh Stamp Set

Let me share another layout I did with the third of my sets of  my signature stamps for Stampendous! for CHA

NatKalbach_QuirkyJC01

For this layout I used my Mish Mesh Stampset:

MishMesh MishMeshBack

It comes with a free template which I used here and there with yellow.

I started out with some mono printing using the new Stampendous! Creative Palette – stamping into it with my stamps and then using the two colored stamps on cork. I cut out the cork circles and added them tot he layout. I applied Stampendous Aged Embossing Enamel on top of the letters – I love how you can grunge things up with it – also added some yellow acrylic paint on the letters to repeat the color.

The sight where they sell these tires was one of the first ones when I visited Jersey City for the first time last year and hahhaa- you bet I thought that would be a good spot to live if they have stores like that ;)

want to know where my stamps arrived so far? – I started a list of the stores carrying them – so check it out. If you stock them as a storeowner let me know :)

Here are the supplies I used with this Layout:

Have a beautiful day

Rules Schmules or… New Art Journal Page

Are you guys also covered over the ears with stuff to do ? I bet you are. Crazzzzyyy times. At least a new Art Journal Page

NatKalbach_rules1

I was checking out a color combination in my art journal for a CHA Project – I love the blue, purple and vibrant green.

The Quote by Claude Debussy reads: Works of art make rules, rules do not make works of art!

NatKalbach_rules3

That is why I enjoy art journaling so much. Don’t get me wrong…working on CHA Projects with super-secret-not-yet-revealed-stuff is super fun…but there are also a LOT of rules. What you can use, what you can combine, what you can make, how big, how small… etc. And that is why this quote came back to my mind…so time to throw it in my art journal and move on ;) Get these projects done…oh…and CJS14…and Christmas Shopping and …Cleaning of the house… I bet you can relate :)

NatKalbach_rules2

In any event- I hope you have a couple minutes to do something creative and play! Take them :)))))

Have a wonderful weekend!

Nat

What a perfect quote for this time of year! Running, running out of time, running round in circles! No time for creativity—-but that makes Dec. 29, when everyone leaves and I can kick back, so much sweeter! For me, January is total crafty time!

We’ll all Float On Anyway …or Art Journal Page

I love how the background for this page turned out – it was very bright and wild until I covered most of it with black and that made it for me.

Embossed with my old stamps I designed for Sultane and Stampendous Aged Green Embossing Enamel  – love that stuff!

Have you used any older Supplies you “found” again recently?

Brayer Background Technique

CJSUberMediaOWSLOGO

Those of you who were part of the Creative JumpStart 2013 saw the videos that me and my artist friends posted on my website throughout January. The videos are not available here anymore, since I have to make room for new fun things to come ..still thinking ;) …but I thought it would be nice to repost my 10 technique videos over the next couple weeks- so that you have access to them whenever you want.

And now let’s jump to the 6th video in my Über*Media Creative JumpStart 2013 Workshop which was the Brayer Background Technique  – one of my faves :)

If you have no external speakers on your pc – turn up the volume a lot (the audio is very low in this video)

CJS 2013 Technique6 Brayer Background from Nathalie Kalbach on Vimeo.

This and the other techniques are part of some of my Über*Media Online Classes.

They are there to free your creativity with techniques and how-to’s that go beyond one certain project. I want you to learn something new that you can adapt to your own style and can use for many projects to come.

Über*Media classes are dedicated to different kinds of media that cross a variety of materials.

I do have several Über*Media Workshops available right now for example Über*Media -PanPastel, -Acrylic Paint, -Gesso, -Acrylic Ink and -FoamStamplifier.

For my Creative JumpStart Über*Media Workshop I showed some of my favorite Über*Media Techniques that can be used in your Mixed Media, Scrapbooking, Altered Art and/or ArtJournal Projects.

And here are the supplies I used in the video:

The Yellow No. 2 Pencil or …a new canvas

Finally I had time to create a new canvas –

NatKalbach_TiconPen01

the first one in my new home here in Jersey City. And of course…if you live in an old pencil factory – you have to get inspired by your surrounding buildings :)

It was a bit crazy to work on the canvas in the middle of unpacked boxes but I am so glad I did. I think I will do a couple more yellow pencil canvases…

I love the colors and the building is fabulous. Techniques are used so well it makes the piece so interesting and I could spend some time looking at each little detail. The pencil is a bit contrived, but I think it will be a big hit, and probably the first to selll.
