Stability – Art Journal

“Stability is sometimes just the bodega in your neighborhood” . I played around in my art journal for a painting of this building on canvas.

I built up my background with my Manhattan stencil and acrylic spray paint. I also used my Gnarly and Far Out foam stamps along with ink and acrylic paint.

I also used various acrylic markers for my sketch and journaling.

Does your hood have a bodega or corner store that has all those little things you need?

Make People Love Again – Art Journal

Make people LOVE again!  Let’s start right now :)

I created big brush strokes and used a palette knife with white gesso, black gesso and pink acrylic paint. Then I stamped my Love Story foam stamp on some left over collage paper and cut it out and pasted it.

I added my Love Stamp

…and my Love Tag rubber stamp for the journaling.

I colored in the stamping a bit, and added drops with teal to pull that color a bit further across.

Is It Over Yet – Art Journal

Is it over yet? Hanging on a thread…  I created this art journal page at the end of December.

I began with a background that was from cleaning off different colors. I used black spray paint over my Chicago stencil first, then layered up my Santiago stencil and sprayed with white. My Mini Motifs rubber stamps fit perfectly in the stencil design (smile!).

And I added one last detail to my pattern with one of my Fan-Fare rubber stamps.

I added a bit of coordinating collage paper and my journaling with a white Signo pen. Hang in there everyone!

Told You So – Art Journal

“Told you so” Sincerely, Your Intuition

Sometimes you gotta listen to your gut :)

Grabbed this art journal which I hadn’t used in a while and found this page which had a transfer which wasn’t that great (the initial photo didn’t have enough contrast). It seemed like i had given up on that one, so I figured it was time to take care of it again.

I used acrylic paint in teal and lime green as well as gold gesso by Daniel Smith to color in the background, then layered my Art Nouveau stencil on top and used a baby wipe to take away some areas.

I used Honsell soft pastels into the still wet acrylic paint for some scratching and color, and also used a soft pencil to add some obscured writing. I let it dry and then painted it with clear gesso to add tooth but also to seal the pastels that did not dry into the wet acrylic paints.

I then used Derwent art bars and Neo Colors II to paint over the face – using a water brush to blend the wax bars but also leave some dry wax marks for texture.

Lastly I added some stamping with my new Mini Motifs foam stamps and acrylic paint and journaled with a posca marker and white signo pen.

Art Journal Flip Through – November 2020

I wanted to share a little Flip Through video of my newly finished art journal.

I keep about 4-5 journals at the same time so they are always filled with an eclectic mix. This one highlights some pages that later became sketches for original paintings. You may also spot pages that are from some of my Online Workshops.

Do you keep several art journals at once or do you work through one at a time?

Wow, this is gorgeous! The flip was a little too fast for me though. Had to watch it several times, but fun!
Loved seeing the Klimt pages again too.

Where the Magic Happens – Art Journal

“The middle is messy but that is where the magic happens.” -Brene Brown

I used spray paint, gesso, and acrylic paint for my background and then began creating my scene. On the left is my Warehouse and Brownstone rubber stamps, even further than this image shows is my Queen Anne rubber stamp starting the row.

I continued the cityscape with some of my own building sketches, with acrylic markers and adding details here and there.

Masked – Art Journal

It’s Halloween… Are you wearing your mask? Not just your spooky costume mask, but also that PPE? I hope so – as we know it is one of the most important things we can all do to help stop the spread of the virus. It’s been on my mind a lot lately, so I took it to my art journal.

I started my background with some new soft pastels that I have been playing with lately (link below for those), mixed with fluid matte medium. Then I used my Versailles stencil with blue water based spray paint. To highlight the design more, I added a Posca marker outline and my Fan-fare rubber stamps.

I sketched the skeleton lady with acrylic ink on deli paper and also added in my You are my No. 1 Priority stamp from the #keepyouposted set because that is the whole point right? I am wearing my mask to help protect everyone around me :)

I hope you have a happy, safe Halloween.

We Got the Power – Art Journal

“Somewhere inside of all of us is the power to change the world.” Roald Dahl

And now is the perfect time to use this power… and VOTE.

I created my scene using acrylic paints and gouache and acrylic markers. A lot of hot colors here to give this one some power ;)

For my quote I chose a calligraphy pen.

And then that all important Ballot Box stamp from my #keepyouposted rubber stamp set.

Flower Flowers – Art Journal

“I believe in you”… Words that water flowers! – Michael Faudet

I messed up the quote but oh well, happens to the best of us :) I didn’t see it until I looked at the photos for this blog post and then decided to leave it …Flower Flowers – you know what I mean ;)

For my background I used Sunshine Yellow, Planetary Purple, Milky Way Magenta, and Mars Red moonlight duo ink pads and my Sunburst Triangle rubber stamp from the Triangle Love set.

I sketched on deli paper using acrylic ink and acrylic paint, then added it to my page. I used some delicate black splatters to bring it all together.
