Blog: Art Journal

Photos of my Workshops in Florida

Last weekend I taught two Art Journaling Classes at Everything Scrapbook & Stamps and it was fun to be back there. We had such a good time.

The Saturday class was “What’s cooking?” and we explored all the things that make artwork work and discussed how to solve art problems in your art journal.

I loved the progress and results of the pages -it was such a feast for the eyes

Beautiful patterns

And look at these finished pages- oh yummie

You gotta love the elephant with the tutu – it’s adorable!

And seeing my new Art Foamies used in such a clever way- oh yum!

I want to live in this RubberMoon city!

And this is the coolest- a combination of both – so cool!

I am always giddy when I see a display with my stamps and stencils and Michelle brought all those yummy things into the store for the workshops!

And seeing all the students that had gotten my book made my day …actually this makes several days- soooo love this pic :) Thank you girls!!!

Sunday I taught my Art Rules Art Journaling Class

Mono Printing

playing with pattern

stencils and stamps

fun techniques

inspired by Master- Artists

they all had a great time !

It was so good to be back to be back at Everything Scrapbook & Stamps– thank you to all the students who came and to Michelle for having me yet again and taking good care of me. After the hurricane it was especially delightful to see all of you being well and able to spend some creative time and this wonderful store. Hope to see you soon again.

Hope to see you in one of my classes in the future. Check out my in-person-class schedule. I will be in the U.K. to teach at a retreat with my friend Birgit Koopsen in Coventry in two weeks and then teach at the end of October at The Queen’s Ink in Maryland to teach an Art Journaling and a Mono Print Painting Class – there are still a couple seats left, so come and join us!

Best Adventure EVER – Art Journal

“Maybe it won’t work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.”

Love this – I think that sums up a lot of things that I have done in my life so far …love my artful adventures and believe me…many didn’t quite work out- LOL

I am totally in pattern heaven using my brand new Downtown Positive and Negative Foam Stamp Set. I love how the two stamps stamped on top of each other in copper and teal make up for such a beautiful intricate pattern.

I added some yellow ink here and there after the stamped areas dired and I love how it added another color and interest.

Stamping it a bit offset and given the fact that a foam stamp reveals texture I love how the effect is so dimensional and looks almost as if the image is raised and jumps off the page. One happy Nat on this one.

Here are some of the supplies I used for this spread:

Have an adventurous day!

Art Journal Page – Game Changer

“She remembered who she was and the game changed”

This pages started out from a demo page showing my Versailles Stamp Set and when I got I further painted on the spread.

I panted with acrylic paint but also used my new Caran D’Ache Watercolor Pencils to color in some between some of the stamped areas.

I painted the girl using acrylic paint and some oil pastels- I think I refound my love for them :)

Wishing you a fantastic day!!!

Photos of my Mixed Media Workshops in California

Last weekend I taught three mixed media classes at Scrapbooking Forever in Westvillage, California.

It was a wonderful time there with the students- I taught my Artvergnugen, as well as my Master Art Express and my Walk With Me Class.

Here are some wonderful patterned pages from the Artvergnugen Class.

It truly was a lot of Artvergnugen :)

I also taught my Master Art Express Art Journaling class which is taking Art Journaling a bit further and takes inspiration from different Artists imaginary traveling through Europe.

I loved all the different ideas and approaches the students tried out!

My altered book class Walk With Me was super fun as well and the ink drawings some of my students added to their books.

I did not take many photos as some of my students wanted to remain private – a request I happily follow- but here is one of Winkie and me. If you ever happen to be in a class room with Winkie prepare yourself for a life story ride that blows your mind. My favorite thing about teaching is, that besides that it makes me happy to see people being creative, what wonderful and interesting people I meet along my way. Everyone’s story is worth telling and I am truly grateful that I am meeting so many amazing people.

Hope to see you in one of my classes in the future. Check out my in-person-class schedule. I will be in Florida next weekend at Everything Scrapbook and Stamps and then fly in October to the U.K. to teach at a retreat with my friend Birgit Koopsen in Coventry – there are still a couple spots left.

I just want … – Art Journal Spread

I just want to drink coffee, create stuff and sleep – oh yes ;) I loved creating this spread.

I started off with a simple blue background painted with acrylic paint and then added some orange and stamped and stenciled with my Chicago Foam Stamps and Stencil. Then I painted the girl (yes stop your horses, I painted a face- LOL) …and added some of my brand new Caran D’Ache NeoPastel Oil Pastels- OMG – I am in love – the colors are so amazing and they are like buttttahhh!

I seriously had to tell myself to stop adding more and more. I added some marks and scribbles with a white China Marker – I love that General China Markers are made right here in Jersey City.

Here are some of the supplies I used:

Nice People – Art Journal

“the world is filled with nice people, if you can’t find one be one!”

Played with paint and my palette knife- sometimes the most fulfilling way to create texture and lay down color. I love those colors together.

I stamped a border with my Blocks Cling Rubber stamp.

Game Changer- Art Journal

She remembered who she was and the game changed.

I spray painted the background in red, then spray painted orange on top and while the orange was still wet I laid down my Beacon Stencil and then lifted it right up. Love the texture and bright color.

I cut out some painted deli paper and made some marks and  circles in blue and green colors and then added the journaling.

It was a quick and easy page to make but I do love the outcome a lot.

Bring Your Own Light or …In My Art Journal Today

“We must bring our own light to the darkness!” I love this – I forgot where I heard or saw it but it resonated with me.

I was playing with some new acrylic paints and added some marks by scratching into the wet paint and stamping with rubber stamps as well as found items on my studio desk.

I like the unbleached titanium white peaking through the blue and white a lot – I need to revisit :)

That’s the Way I like it – Art Journal

“I have no idea what I’m doing and that’s kind of how I love it” – True for a lot of areas in my life ;)

I painted with my new Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint, which Finnabair has sent me to try. I like that they are a bit on the thicker side and the colors are beautiful. I used my Batik Mini foam stamps and love how much texture they created. For the circles I used a round sponge which I had laying around and then stamped inside of it in white with the back end of a brush.

Using a more grey-ish ink I added some texture using my Cardboard rubberstamp set.

I traced some of the patterns with a black pen.

What about you , are you a total planner and know exactly what you are doing or are you also a bit of a “let’s try it” person?
