NatKalbach_LovedStarsFondly01

I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night. – Sarah Williams

NatKalbach_LovedStarsFondly02

Lot’s of texture in the background, some stenciling in the background, then using a star stencil with a conrasting color. Loved adding some black splatters :)

I also like the black splatters Nat. Do you use the fan brush to make them?

Hi Sue, those were made with the Liquitex Splatter Tool – totally forgot to list it. I usually use black Acrylic ink to make them.

The Best Is Yet To Come … or In My Art Journal Today

NatKalbach_BestToCome01

The best is yet to come – Frank Sinatra

I truly believe in that ..do you ?

NatKalbach_BestToCome02

This page is actually kind of a cheater page. I love just rubbing the extra paint that I have on my stencils onto a blank page – creating a negative stencil image.Sometimes I paint over parts of it later or do other things with it. But I really loved the colors and how this looked on this spread- so I left as is and just stamped and stenciled in black on top.

Here are the supplies I used- some of the stencils are actually part of the stamp sets for Stampendous

Have the best day today :)

Love it and believe it! Reminds me of the song I think it was Frank Sinatra, wish I was in another of your classes.

Ornament Wallpaper – NEW STENCIL

OrnamentStencil

Here is the last one of my new five Stencils I released with StencilGirl Products. This 9x 12” Ornament Wallpaper Stencil –  was also inspired by my workshop travels to China and Malaysia in 2014 where I saw ornamental patterns in all kinds of shapes and forms in temples, wall decor and paintings.

Nat_donthate01

For this art journal spread I used Liquitex Spray Paint over the Ornament Stencil, when I let it dry and used some Liquitx Acrylic Inks over the background. I love how it makes the colors pop.
Nat_donthate02
Once that was dry I used again spray paint and this time only stenciled a band of a couple of the ornaments on each side of the art journal spread.
I will show a couple more projects using the new stencils- also how you can use them together for some new designs :)
Hope you like this one too.
Here is a list of supplies used:

Lilly Wallpaper – New Stencil

LillyWallpaperStencil

Here is another of my new Stencils I designed for StencilGirl Products. This 9x 12” Stencil is called Lilly Wallpaper Stencil-. This design was inspired by my workshop travels to China and Malaysia earlier this year. I saw Lilly’s in all kinds of shapes and forms in buddha statues, wall decor and paintings – I loved it.

Kalbach_Lillyq1

For this art journal spread I prepared the background using different colors of Liquitex Spray Paint over my Arabesque Stencil . Then I used Neutral Grey Spray Paint and sprayed a loose frame around the spread.

Kalbach_Lillyq2

Then I layered the Lilly Wallpaper on top and sprayed with two different colors over for a layered Lilly look.

Hope you like my new Lilly Wallpaper Stencil- more projects using it to come soon.

Here is a complete supply list:

Batik – NEW STENCIL

BatikStencil

Here is another of my new Stencils with StencilGirl Products . 9 x 12 Batik Stencil: Early in 2014 I taught workshops in Malaysia and while exploring Kuala Lumpur I was truly inspired by the batik art that you could find in traditional clothing and fabric. With this stencil I wanted to create a pattern that can be either used as a whole for a background or single images for mark making in your art work. Here are two art journal spreads where I used the stencil- but I will show more in the upcoming weeks:

NatKalbach_Travel01

I first painted the background with acrylic paints. Then I placed the Batik  Stencil over the background to the right, sprayed with Liquitex Spray paint over it and then flipping it right away over to the left for a negative imprint .

NatKalbach_Travel02

For the next page I used the stencil only partly here and there.

NatKalbach_TearDown01

I used the border of the stencil to frame my art journal on the top and on the bottom.

NatKalbach_TearDown02

I spread a bit gesso with a credit card over the background  and then stencils with a light acrylic paint through the stencil. I used this space to later journal my thoughts.

NatKalbach_TearDown03

As you can see, I also flipped the stencil over to use the excess paint from the front of the stencil to create a negative imprint.

I hope you like this new stencil. Here are the supplies I used for these art journal pages

Have an amazing day and a great start into the week!

Art Deco Wallpaper – NEW STENCIL

L319-2T

So loving my new 9×12” Art Deco Wallpaper Stencil I designed for StencilGirl Products – I know, I know…I’m full of myself- LOL. But seriously it is a stencil I wanted for a long time!

I love Art Deco Design – in my travels through Europe, especially to Paris – I made a lot of sketches from wallpapers in museums and hotel rooms from this era.

NatKalbach_artdeco01

In this Art Journal Page I used the stencil as a background and spray painted over it with several different Liquitex Spray Paints. I love how dimensional you can get with different color layered up.

NatKalbach_artdeco02

Here is another sample using it as a whole on both art journal pages …as …a …wallpaper for the quote :)

NatKalbach_soul01

I painted the background first with different acrylic paint colors and then layered the stencil over the background spraying with white and grey Liquitex Spray paint.

NatKalbach_soul02

I wrote the quote with Liquitex Acrylic Ink and a Bamboo Sketching Pen.

I will show some other ways on how to use this stencil in the next weeks :)

Here are the supplies that I used for those two pages

nSupplies

Hope you like the stencil- have a gorgeous day!!!

Adore the colors in the second one and the way you used the stencil over it … I went to a Liquitex demo a couple of weeks ago and it was so fun seeing all the different products, amazing, the colors are just yummy.
I also bought a bamboo pen and cannot figure out how to use it … I got it because Iove the way you use it in your journal, but there is nothing online on how it works … any insight? Love your blog!

Thank you Kim! The Bamboo Pen is a Dip Pen – you dip it into ink – that is the whole secret :) I will do a video about this soon though as you are not the first one to ask :) will try to do it soon :) Have a gorgeous day ,Nat

Wohooo – glad you like the stencil! BTW- the Writers tape might be not available anymore. Basically you can just cut up raw gessoed canvas pieces and fringe the sides and use those adhered with Gel Medium :)

Elephant Parade – NEW STENCIL

ElephantParade

By now I guess it is not a secret anymore that I have a slight elephant obsession and since so many asked for a smaller elephant stencil-there you go :) Elephant Parade is here

L321-3

The Stencil has 3 parts – An Elephant silhouette, Patterned Elephant Stencil and an Elephant Mask. This gives you loads of possibilities!

Kalbach_Love

I sprayed the background of the art journal page with some Liquitex Spray Paints. Then I layered the ornamental elephant onto the left and sprayed with two different colors over the pattern. I cleaned off the stencil onto a different art journal page as to not waste paint and then flipped it over and repeated on the right side to get the elephant facing to the left. I used the elephant mask then over the elephants to mask off the images and sprayed over the background to change the background up.

Kalbach_Love2

Here is a different Elephant version for you:

Kalbach_Trust01

Here I created a background with Liquitex Acylic Paints, then layered the elephant mask over an area and used Liquitex Spray paint and sprayed over the elephant mask. I repeated that several times carefully avoiding spraying into the newly created elephants. I used the Elephant stencil to trace with a journaling pen to give a bit more definition.

Kalbach_Trust02

Elephants…just make me happy :) Hope they do the same to you too ;)

Here are the supplies I used for the pages:
