Whatevers Round 2 #3 or Sharing

the WHATEVERS 2 A

Sorry: This was scheduled for the 15th – but somehow it didn’t work  – but now here it is! :)

Are you ready for the 3rd photo of the Second Round of Whatevers? If you missed what the Whatevers is all about or want to see all the past photos and takes…check it out here.

Click here to see what CatVickiMartha and Cuchy made out of the photo and which story they tell.

Here is my take:

03_NatKalbach_Sharing01

Journaling:

They shared the same parents, passion for music and liked the same woman. No wonder they also shared how much they disliked each other!

03_NatKalbach_Sharing02

I used Luminarte Silk Paints and Liquitex Spray Paints to create the background and used my StandUp Bass Stencil designed for StencilGirl Products. Love how it pops out.

And here is the photo of this month’s Whatever for you:

NathalieKalbach_Whatevers3

Here is how it works

  • Vicki, Cat, Cuchy (Carmen), Martha and I and I have made a one-year commitment to each other and picked twelve photos with Whatevers whom we will give a story.
  • Every month – if possible always on the 15th –  each of us will do a post with an individual story that goes along for us with the same photo.
  • If you want you can play along and we will have the photo for you to download and show us your version of The Whatevers. The photo will be posted at the end of our blogposts- not on Facebook!
  • There is no rules to the story itself- it can be funny, sad, uplifting, breathtaking- WHATEVER
  • There is no rules on the length or the form of the story– it can be a short sentence, an essay, a poem or a soap opera – WHATEVER
  • There is no rules on the artform you choose – it can be a scrapbook layout, an altered art project, an artjournal page – WHATEVER
  • Here is a rule though: if you take the photo you have to link back to us and show us your story.
  • These pictures are from our personal stash and are for personal use for you only! If you want to use them for a publication whether a book or magazine in print or digital form please ask for permission!
  • If you want to participate we’ll have a linky list for each Whatever Post.
  • You can also join our The Whatevers -Facebook Page

Man oh man… I was almost going to either not show the Sketch Show this month at all…or add a fantasy watermark to my sketches to make them seem not belong to  me ;)

NatKalbachSketchShowStoryboard

Sad attempts to draw in Paris in the Park and a sad attempt to draw the cat..but did I have fun? Yes I did and so I take ownership LOL..:) Does my husband have to hang those sketches on the fridge door? No he doesn’t ;)

Here are my friends joining me this time :

Carolyn Dube wonderful artist and Stencil addict…give her a stencil and she does magic

Maria McGuire rocks the StencilGirl Talk blog and all kinds of beautiful projects

Marsha Valk Marsha my sweet and talented friend from the Netherlands

Jessica Sporn an amazing Mixed Media Artist and Illustrator who is soon an almost neighbor of mine ;)

WHY an elephant Stencil? I love elephants and we have a lot of family connections with elephants! My uncle Gerd used to work as a zoo keeper at the zoo in Wuppertal. His stories of the elephants always fascinated me the most. And as a little child my grandaunt Margot used to tell me the story of the Tuffi a female circus elephant who jumped out the famous monorail in Wuppertal into the river in 1950 (no elephant seriously hurt!). And I loved all kinds of stories elephant related…and Elephants can be represent so many things..memory, strength,  mental strength, fun, intelligence. Need more reasons or an elephant stencil? Nope- LOL- ok…let’s continue on

Check out some samples here:

Here is what I created for today:

NatKalbachHappy01

Loved working on this big canvas and applying layered stencils and collage elements and then spray paint – there is a lot of texture on this canvas.

NatKalbachHappy02

So much fun how different all the elephants turned out

NatKalbachHappy03

They make me really happy

Here are the supplies I used:

Now hop on over to my friends and check what they did and comment for some changes to win the stencil :)

Love the stencil. Like you say, elephants are symbols for soo many things. And your canvas is absolutely fabulous! I love the bright colours and the contrasting dark back ground that looks almost like a starry night! BTW, my German teacher in High School (Frau Brauer) often told us about the Zoo in Wuppertal and the elephants so it’s a small world ;)

Necessary Ingredients in Living or Art Journal Page

NathalieKalbach_Fantasy01

I played a bit with collaging the background and using my Elephant and Arabesque Stencil.

NathalieKalbach_Fantasy02

I love how much texture and interesting effects the collaged flowers, die cuts, Fragments, Aged Embossing Powder and other elements added to my spray painted background and elephant.

NathalieKalbach_Fantasy03

The journaling says: Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living; it is a way of looking at life through the wrong way of a telescope. (Dr. Seuss)

n*Studio moves to the U.S. – CELEBRATION

NatLetsCelebrate

In exactly one week we will be arriving at our new home in the U.S. The n*Studio will be packed in the shipping container in the next days and I will be offline mostly. But don’t worry..I have scheduled some fun posts and there will be also a blog-hop coming up with another nice giveaway next week. And then just cross fingers that the phone company hooks us up quickly again in our new place .

NatKalbachMoving

Lot’s of work lays already behind us – from cleaning out pantries, giving away and selling things that won’t fit into the container or are not allowed to be shipped to the U.S. or cannot work in the U.S., to cleaning bikes and shoes as no dirt allowed to be brought in, to lot’s of paperwork, getting the apartment here in shape and find a new renter. Our To-Do List got way smaller but this coming week will be totally insane, making sure the movers pack everything and properly, the labeling for customs , the cat getting a little ride to the vet for the health certificate,

NilesVet

the good bye party tonight and other farewells, packing 6 suitcases  and a cat…well…LOL…let’s stop here …you get the picture and if not..follow me on instagram you will probably get some there ;)

Niles Card

While we are sad to leave Hamburg and our family and friends here- we are VERY HAPPY and excited to move to Jersey City and our family and friends there. One of you said in one of the comments that she cannot at all understand why we move to the U.S. Well..you know when you have a multi-national marriage – one of you always has to leave the country and be further away from their loved ones…and after 15 years I think it is my task now and I am very content and well with it  and I cannot wait to work further on some really fun n*Studio projects there (wait and see) :) Home is where your heart is and my heart goes now to the U.S. plus…the world is so much smaller now…I see my family and friends already again in December and I tell you, if only half of the people come to visit us in the U.S. that said they would, we pretty much do not even feel we moved ;) …so that is not too bad ;)

So………………..let’s celebrate

Wunder…or Art for Myself

Banner

Siri Skoog, Märta Ruus, Camillha Wäfors Fahlberg and Cecilia Ekström, have started an inspiration blog with great prompts for your Art Journal called Art for Myself. They introduce a new theme each month during 2013. The topics are about yourself, such as my thoughts on 2013, my family and my home, this is me, things that make me happy and so on. I am thrilled they invited me to play along as a guest inspirer this month on the theme “What makes me happy”

NathalieKalbach_Wunder01

Wunder gibt es immer wieder – is a song which literally translated means: There will always be miracles
When I read the theme I thought of this song. So after creating the background- layering different colors and stencils I started the journaling which reads:
What makes me happy? That’s a good question…The every day wonders is the answer I would say. Like waking up with my husband and starting the day with a laugh and good breakfast, the cat acting like a 2 month old kitten, my work, colors and paints on my projects and my hands. My friends who love me as I am – their emails or small messages during the day. My family – always there- no matter what. Traveling but also home sweet home – the amazing world we live in – music, art, movies, literature – pretty much makes me happy. And the best
Wunder gibt es immer wieder.
So even when live throws you lemons, the next wonder to make you happy is waiting.

NathalieKalbach_Wunder02

such a fun concept and if you need inspirations or prompts for art journaling- you gotta hop on over to the blog- it is wonderful!

What makes you happy?

Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys – Canvas

NathalieKalbach_Circus01

is a saying that I really love..it is basically saying “not my problem” and often times the monkeys definitely are not mine ;) As you can see I used my Elephant Stencil for Stencil Girl Products – which just makes me happy. Also lots of spraying and layering on the background

NathalieKalbach_Circus02

with a finish of Liquitex Pouring Medium which gives it a nice glass like finish. Love the stuff.

Stroll Through The Hood

NathalieKalbach_Strollhood_Logo

A lot of times I get asked what inspires me. And one of my key answers is always “a stroll through the hood”. It might be street art, it might be thoughts or feelings connected with certain sights, it might be stuff I find to buy…in one way or the other you might find the photos, the thoughts, the feelings, the colors or anything from those strolls in my art journal, a mixed media project or a scrapbooking layout.

I would love to show you once a month what inspired me while strolling through my neighborhood. I hope you like the little insights into my daily life where I live (this is the last one from Hamburg, Germany). This is also a wonderful way for me to remind myself on the inspiring things in the hood. Maybe you get inspired by those posts and even invite ME to a stroll in YOUR hood – feel free to grab the logo and leave a comment for me on the post and share!

NatKalbachAugustroll02

While on a Beatles-Tour with a friend (yes…you gotta do some sightseeing in your own city) I actually for the first time realized the St. Joseeh Church in my neighbor-neighborhood St. Pauli. The Beatles started their career in Hamburg and it is said that Lennon once said: “I might have been born in Liverpool but I grew up in Hamburg.” Well…same for me- I might have been born in Düsseldorf but I grew up here as well…or so I think…snigger ;)

NatKalbachAugustroll06

Actually I let you down a bit on photos of the hood- LOL- there will be photos of me in the hood mostly. I asked Andreas Muhme to take some photos of me in the hood as a memory- and we had a wonderful morning.

NatKalbachAugustroll05

He always makes me laugh and do the worst faces…I guess it is a face of the hood ;)

NatKalbachAugustroll03

Here is actually my bestie, former room mate and maid of honor Esther goofing around in front of our old apartment. We used to live in the yellow house in the background which back then wasn’t as cutely renovated and we froze a lot with wooden windows and had the ugliest bathroom you could imagine. But oh I loved this little place – lot’s of happy memories connected with it.

NatKalbachAugustroll01

And just recently they put up these tourist signs in my hood. It is quite funny for me- because 20 years ago when I moved here, my family would anxiously call me because they heard bad stuff again about my area on the news and would asked if I was ok. Nobody wanted to live here, the rents were still low and now, the rent skyrocketed, and it is constantly changing – some things are good some things are not good at all…this neighborhood is tourist destination when you go to Hamburg. I made a joke when I saw the sign and said “I guess it is indeed time to go now” ;)

NatKalbachAugustroll04

And so..this was the last stroll through my Hamburg Hood (at least online ;) ) …I am moving in less than 2 weeks. Packing up stuff, doing lot’s of paper work, sorting, giving things away to friends, seeing lot’s of friends every day…slowly saying good bye to this wonderful place that was my home for 20 years. But I am so excited to stroll through my new hood in Jersey City next month and I cannot wait to share pictures with you.

Have a wonderful day!
