Be Bad – Art Journal

“Be bad enough to be bad at something new.” – This quote totally makes me wanna just go for it when trying something new. Who cares?!

This one is all about yummy layers. I started with a thin layer of Holbein gouache, and stamped with my Fanfare and Fantastic Small and Large rubber stamps.

Then I dry brushed the copper paint (I made the paint in this class) over parts of it after stamping, added some markmaking and journaling with markers.

I love the play back and forth with all the layers.

Focus Reminder – Art Journal

“Reminder: Focus on your own shit”

I used my Suminagahsi paper -and pasted two different sheets into my journal as the background. And I added a sketch on Deli paper.

I stamped on one of the Suminagahsi papers with my Hex Small stamp and cut them out. After adding them to the page I also stamped my Gnarly foam stamp over top to tie everything together.

Edgy Cities – Art Journal

“Cities with an edge create love, because people have to live & work together!”

I used my suminagashi paper that I marbled for collage – both in the figure and in the blue “balloons” that I stamped with my Fan-tastic Small rubber stamps.

I masked off parts of the Stroll stamps to create my edgy city. Here are the Lady Liberty, Powerhouse, and Brownstone stamps.

I kept a lot of white space in this spread, perfect for showing off the subtle ink patterns of the suminagashi paper.

Gelli Printed Card Mix

I thought it might be nice to play with my Mini Fan Set foam stamps and a Gelli plate to make a few cards.

I used Hero Arts ink pads as well as Memento inks on the gelli plate and then just stamped into the inked up plate and put the cards on top.

I used a fountain pen for my sentiments – lots of options here so I made a variety.

Crossing Bridges – Art Journal

“Sometimes you need to burn bridges to stop yourself from crossing them again.”

I stamped out my Fairview Fan foam stamp using Moonlight Duos ink pads – love this art nouveau inspired design.

The figure is drawn using a Holbein marker, nice and sketchy :)

Worry Less – Art Journal

Worry Less… Live MORE! One of those helpful reminders to get out of our heads and live in the moment :)

I stamped up a nice little background with acrylic paint and my Jewett Fan foam stamp set – comes with a positive and negative version of the design but instead of layering them I used them separately.

I outlined some of the design and did my quote with my new fav fineliner pens – Winsor Newton. A very happy looking page I think!

Adventure – Art Journal

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” – Helen Keller

When I was working on my April Patterns series, I found that the fans could be stamped in a row to leave perfect circles in between. So here I used my Broadway Fan foam stamp set and stamped them out with acrylic paint. I also used the back of the fan for a solid fan shape sometimes. Next I stamped my Mini Hex Set in the circle space, and filled in with Holbein markers.

I added some sketchy lines with Winsor Newton Fineliners to define everything a bit more…

… and to tie it visually to my quote.

Consequences – Art Journal

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions…” lol Don’t you hate when that happens?

This page evolved a bit as I was working on it. Basically I actually didn’t like the outcome of the background due to the colors I chose, and then pushed everything to the backround by applying a thin layer of gesso. So peeking through you see the pattern I made using the Van Vorst Fan foam stamps and the Fanfare rubber stamps. Using gesso to knock stuff back a bit is one of my favorite ways to use it – works so well when you’ve gone a bit too crazy with colors and such.

And it gives you a nice surface to journal on. Here I used a fountain pen.

Learn to Rest – Art Journal

“If you get tired, learn to rest not to quit.” Here’s some motivation for your day :)

I wanted to try out my new Mini Fan foam stamp set for this one, so I stamped all 4 of the designs in the set into a nice ombre-esque pyramid using acrylic paint.

I went back into the designs with a little black pen – my new fav Winsor Newton fineliners.

And my quote with some nice flourishes – little dots here and there to give it character.

Nat, that is exactly what I needed to read this afternoon!
I especially like that the pattern is a hill…one more step.
