Be Present – Art Journal

“Be present!” – always a good thought to remember :)

The colorful centers are from collage paper which I had stamped using a stamp buddy and the Versailles Foam stamp with different acrylic paint colors. I cut out the centers and glued them to the art journal.

Around it I stamped my Fanfare stamps in teal archival ink and my Fantastic Large stamps in gray archival ink. Then I filled in with the Floral Tile Small set and Moonlight duo inks.

That’s Why – Art Journal

They told me I couldn’t… that’s why I did it.

In this case, you shouldn’t really show stuff on social media you are not happy about and so that’s why I do it hahahaha. Because it is all part of the process …the good , the ugly and the in between.

I used my FANtastic Mixed Media Chip as a stencil and monoprinted directly into my art journal.

I added paint and stamped with my FANtastic Large rubber stamp set and my Fanfare stamp set.

At the end I took matte medium and adhered part of the mixed media chip right into it all, framing the stamped fans and giving a bit of texture to the page.

There are elements of the page that I really like – like the monoprinted area and the chipboard as well as the muted stamping but then there are others that I DO NOT LIKE. Basically the colors are totally out of my comfort zone and the very rigid pattern of the chipboard and the stamps was competing with the messiness of other areas. Sometimes that works but here for me it didn’t . It was fun to play though …and sometimes just showing up and doing something creative is ok too …

at first i thought this was a guest post because these are not your colors, Nathalie. great job going waaay out of your comfort zone. i like bold, jewel-toned colors … mostly blues and violets and i can stretch to add reds and greens. you inspire me to go create with pastels and all shades of yellow and orange, thank you!

Imagine – Art Journal

“… You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one…” – John Lennon

After watching a netflix documentary on John Lennon and Yoko Ono I was inspired to do this page. I sketched John’s face using a Monolith 8B pencil and stamped with my Space Oddity stamp from both the Hex Set Large and Hex Set Small.

I used some left over stripes of my Suminagashi paper that I couldn’t bear throwing away- LOL. And I stamped my Groovy and part of my Gnarly foam stamp over them.

Love your sketch of John and the page as well.
I read a biography about him and I was surprised at some of the not so nice things that he may have done.
I still love his music and vision for peace.

Hi Sue, thank you! Yeah the documentary I saw about him also showed a pretty tough person to be around with – so many facets a person can have.
I agree on the love for his music and vision for peace

Perfectionism – Art Journal

“Perfectionism is the fear of being criticized.”

I used some suminagashi collage paper and embossed a sketch that I mounted on top of the paper.

I built a patterned background using the stamps from my Hex Set Small and Moonlight Duo ink pads.

Then I wrote the quote with embossing ink and embossed that as well.

Improve – Art Journal

“How wonderful it is that nobody needs to wait to improve the world.” – Anne Frank

I created a pattern with my Groovy foam stamp and even used the back of it to make the rectangular shapes. I added the hash mark area of the Jazzed foam stamp too, and some of the Fanfare rubber stamps. The whole thing reminds me of some vintage wallpaper – pretty and a little faded.

You can also see my Mini Toledo foam stamp peeking through in blue.

And now it is time to seize the day and start making the world a better place – in any little way that we can.

Control – Art Journal

“People who feel the need to control others, don’t have control over themselves.”

I tore some paper to cover up areas and stamped with my FANtastic Small, Hex Set Small, and Floral Tile Small sets so that the patterns came together. I used MoonGlo ink pads. Love the very bright and indeed glowing colors of those ink pads.

I used water colors for my figure and chose similar colors to help all the elements come together on the page.

Outside the Box – Art Journal

“Sometimes trying to think outside the box ends up in thinking right in the box!”

I began this page by sketching a figure… but sometimes what you don’t know is how an art journal spread came together- see me fighting off my cat and spilled ink – and then just deciding to live with it on a weird Monday afternoon in this video:

Although it was fun to have Pretzel’s paw make a cameo, arting with your cat can be tricky. I don’t recommend it lol

But I do recommend just going with what happens when you are working. The spilled ink and all! Actually to bring my page together I used my Paint Splat Mixed Media Chip as a stencil (very fitting with my messy process that day). And I added a stamp from the Fanfare set too.

Aging – Art Journal

“Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been” David Bowie

This spread was tons of fun. I used dye spray paints on the left to stamp with my Far Out Stamp, then I used the Large and small Hex Rubber stamps with an inkpad to create a pattern. The area that is painted in acrylic and green was over stamped with white ink and the Far Out stamp- it is very subtle but I like the repetition of the pattern.

Some ink and acrylic paint for the lady and voila ..another very mixed media spread.

Keep Showing Up – Art Journal

“Keep showing up for yourself every day!” – I saw my artist friend Tony Zatzick saying this on Instagram and I really loved it.

I thought it would be fun to combine rubber stamps and foam stamps in one page, both using moonlight duo ink pads. I used the Hex Set Small rubber stamp set.

I also used my Hex Set Large rubber stamps and my Gnarly and Jazzed foam stamps.

I love how the patterns work together and the moonlight duo inks work great with each.
