LOL- so true! This was the beginning of a demo at a workshop and then I finished up the page -it is a bit weird- but I kind of like it. Noticed her mittens …that is what happens when you screw up the hands…you just add mittens ;)
Played with Stabilo Woodies, Ink and stamps

Loved using up some washi tape and washi paper which I “collected” for a while. the lady is from a sketch I did and I cut it out of a paper and then colored the image in and adhered it on top with Gel Medium.
I stamped the building stamps onto the different patterned washi paper and cut them out. I adhered them as well as the washi tape with Gel Medium. Even thought the washi tape has adhesive the adhesive won’t hold to long, so better just glue it down.
Some journaling and some stamping – love how the pattern and color mostly comes from the Washi.

Thank you Sue! Yes – gel medium is the way to make sure that the low adhesive will keep on sticking. Washi tape will eventually even come loose from plain paper if not reinforced.
Inspired by my trip to Japan I created this art journal spread. I used my new inkstone and inkstick to create some ink and sketch the woman as well as the markings.
I used my Embroidery stamps as well as the Stroll Around the Block stamps to create the pattern on the clothing and the rain in the background.
I painted the background with gesso and watercolor and the dress with a think layer of acrylic paint.
I like how this turned out. Here are some of the supplies I used.

“But home isn’t where you land, home is where you launch!” (from An American Marriage by Tayari Jones) Even though I love living in the States and call it my home and I do not see myself going back to Germany and even though I do feel more like a European than being German…I guess home is still a city in Germany called Hamburg :) I think this is a feeling I share with a lot of immigrants and when I read this quote it really resonated with me and I knew I had to use it for an art journal spread.
I used one of my drypoint prints with the lady as a collage element – you can read more about the drypoint etching class I took here.
I stamped and layered my Stroll Through the Hood and Stroll Around the Block stamps and then colored them in with watercolor.
I painted the top of the background with golden gesso – and I really love how the gold and the watercolor play together.

I understand what you’re saying. I grew up in Southern California and still consider it my “home” even though I haven’t lived there in over 40 years (and I’ve lived in a couple of other places in between then and where I live now). When I visit California, I’m flooded with good memories of my early life there. But my new home is fantastic in an entirely different way. Kinda like the difference between chocolate and vanilla – both are delicious, but I’d never mistake one flavor for the other!

I feel the same way. I’d never thought about it before, but I also have strong feelings about the place where I grew up. In my case, I don’t even know anyone who lives back in my old home town or the surrounding area anymore, but if I were to go back there, I suspect it would still feel like my home.

I used ink to sketch the dude …bad lip job but oh well ;)
I used some music sheet color painted with watercolors for the background of the guitar and stamped on top of the clothing with my building rubber stamps from various sets. For the skyline I used the patterned and solid side of my Midtown Foam Stamp Set and stamped the windows and doors on top.

I am a mess of unfinished thoughts -oh so true ;)
The back girl is sketched out on deli paper and painted with acrylic paint, while the front one is cut out from a magazine and I just painted with Neopastels on top of it.
I used my Kassel stencil directly on the background but also used some deli paper where the stencil appeared after I had used it with my gel plate to do monoprints.
To tie the deli paper a bit more together with the background I painted partly over it and the background and then scratched some marks into the wet paint. I like the grungy feel of this.

This is another Art Journal spread using my great grandmother’s photo as an indirect image transfer. I love how the transparency of the image let’s the background come through.
Inspired by Klimt I added hand painted and also stenciled patterns with acrylic paint and acrylic spray paint. I also inked up just part of my Numerals stamp as I thought the triangle would make a great pattern stamp
I love how this came out and I wonder if my great grandmother actually liked Klimt – she for sure liked fashion – I have a nice stash of photos of her and she always liked to dress up.
I will post soon how I do indirect image transfers – they are fun and especially work with photos that have bigger areas of white so you have a clear area that works well with the background.

This started actually out as many different approaches to a background and thinks just didn’t work out the way I wanted and once I just started covering it up with the gold I fell in love with the antique- streak look and left it. There -problem solved ;)
The girl is mainly on deli paper with I stamped and painted and layered Neopastels on top. Her eyes are a bit off but I can live with that …Moving on is the motto ;)
Love how the foam stamped pattern shows is slightly visible through the gold layer.
