Relaunched n*Studio Website: New Navigation

Wohoo – finally I can show you my new website…you might not have even noticed it :) The design is pretty much the same – with some minor changes but the biggest and most important thing I changed, is the website navigation – especially for my online workshops. Yes, just as you, I didn’t like it at all, so for six months this was worked on and finally it is done :)
Here is a little video so you see how it works

I love the new navigation and it is so much easier…I hope you love it too :) Some other things are new- can you spy them?

    I like the new navigation on the site. Thanks for always making it easier to find the classes that we’ve purchased Nat. The blinkie on the top is a good way to catch “eyes” to your latest classes.

    Looks great, Nat! I watched the intro video, which was very helpful on navigating the new (and cool looking) site, and then gave it a test run! Works perfectly, found all my purchased classes easily, and once I get home from a two week vacation this month, I am signing up for a couple of new classes! Yay!!!

Elephant Parade – NEW STENCIL

By now I guess it is not a secret anymore that I have a slight elephant obsession and since so many asked for a smaller elephant stencil-there you go :) Elephant Parade is here

The Stencil has 3 parts – An Elephant silhouette, Patterned Elephant Stencil and an Elephant Mask. This gives you loads of possibilities!

I sprayed the background of the art journal page with some Liquitex Spray Paints. Then I layered the ornamental elephant onto the left and sprayed with two different colors over the pattern. I cleaned off the stencil onto a different art journal page as to not waste paint and then flipped it over and repeated on the right side to get the elephant facing to the left. I used the elephant mask then over the elephants to mask off the images and sprayed over the background to change the background up.

Here I created a background with Liquitex Acylic Paints, then layered the elephant mask over an area and used Liquitex Spray paint and sprayed over the elephant mask. I repeated that several times carefully avoiding spraying into the newly created elephants. I used the Elephant stencil to trace with a journaling pen to give a bit more definition.

CREATE Dallas Photos

I had a great time last weekend in Dallas teaching at the CREATE Mixed Media Retreat. I taught 3 classes: “It’s All About the Layers- Art Journal”, “Encrusted Shrubbery- Canvas” and “Texture Heaven-Art Journal”. We used loads of fun Liquitex goodies- thank you Liquitex for the wonderful goodies I was able to give away!

I also brought my new stencils – that I just released and it was so much fun to see them used for the first time- wohoo!!! And there was a lot of hands on paint moments :)

It was great to spend so much time with my students in the day classes- and we laughed a lot…especially about my wrong doings in using “Y’all” …I guess “You’s” is wrong in any event in Texas- LOL

It was also wonderful to see some of my fellow teachers and friends at the event- we had a lot of fun in our “Liberace-Hotel” (that’s an insider for everyone who was there and a little side note about the hotel interior ;) )

Intelligence … or In My Art Journal Today

I painted the background with Soft Body Acrylic Paints and used Acrylic Inks with a Bamboo Pen to write the Journaling. The Bird Image is actually a collage piece I used a Transfer Technique on – it is part of the Liquitex Packaging for the new Michaels Transfer and Photo Collage Set. I ripped the sturdy watercolor paper to the size I wanted it and applied it to the background as I wanted it to be part of my art journal. It is a great sample how you can incorporate a collage piece into your art journal later.

New Stencil Release with StencilGirl Products

Super excited to finally reveal my 5 new Stencil Designs with StencilGirl Products. You will find some projects I created with those stencils today on the StencilGirl Products Blog but let me show you the new stencils also in a short video :)

Circus Circus …or In My Art Journal Today

Here are some details of the two pages:

I created a pretty grungy background with acrylic paints and Gesso and then used Liquitex Spray Paint to partly use my Elephant March Stencil coming into the page

For the writing I used Liquitex Black Carbon Acrylic Ink and a Bamboo Sketching Pen .

In this spread I created the background by dry brushing different acrylic paint colors. I love the texture of the paper itself but also of the brush strokes.

I sprinkled some water onto the still wet paint and then blotted it off with a paper towel- I love how the paper towel left an amazing texture impression reveal the paint underneath. Talk about happy accidents ;) And because I loved the background so much- I didn’t want to cover it up too much and just wrote over with the Bamboo Sketching Pen and Acrylic Ink again.

One of the things that make me really giddy is when I spy someone using my new stamps by Stampendous or also my Stencils with StencilGirl Products :) So I thought once in a while I would feature the work of those wonderful talented people with a new Series called: designed by n*Studio features:…..

And today I feature: Judi Kauffman

I am so happy to have my friend Judi Kauffman back for another feature! I had her a couple months ago and I just love the way she includes a very detailed description on her projects! She uses my products in such fun and unique ways- I love it!!! Judi has no blog- so leave her some love here:)

About Judi:

Judi Kauffman wears, and has always worn, many hats at the same time. She is a designer, writer, and teacher who has worked in the craft industry for over 25 years. She has also been a graphic artist, art director, photo stylist, illustrator, and weaver. She has an undergraduate degree in printmaking and a master’s in fibers. Judi’s projects, articles, and reviews appear in a wide variety of magazines, she works for several manufacturers in design and product development. She is a frequent guest artist for Elizabeth Craft Designs, Walnut Hollow, StencilGirl Products, and other manufacturers. She has also written five books (alas, all now out of print).

Thanks for inviting me back as a Guest Designer, Nathalie. I thought it would be fun to use your Grunge stamp and template set to make a Grunge Shelf. The shelf is 11” long by 1½” deep, the right size for styluses, palette knife, mini brayer, small tubes of paint or other tools. Or it could go on a dresser to hold lipsticks, eyeliner and such, or on a desk for pens and a letter opener!

Whose Front Yard? – Canvas

A new canvas finished – I had a great time painting. It took me quite a while to finish it deciding when to finish :) That is always the hardest part, don’t you think?

I used Liquitex Soft Body and Heavy Body Acrylic Paints as well as Markers, Inks and Spray Paints. I made a lot of marks with the Liquitex Freestyle Palette knife – I love using it to create texture and marks into the wet but also into the dried paint.

I am thinking about having this one scanned, too, and make it available as prints. What do you think? (I will add the prints to my shop as soon as they are ready.)

Inspired by Brooklyn – Brooklyn Museum Swoon Exhibition

I am a little bit behind with posting my stuff, so this exhibition meanwhile closed. But: Last month I went to the Brooklyn Museum for Swoon‘s Submerged Motherlands Exhibition. I admire her work and I wanted to see this exhibition ever since it opened .

In the middle of the rotunda of the museum was this amazing tree – the trunk made of dyed fabric and the branches holding intricate paper cut pieces. Swoon engaged with climate change in the installation as a response to the catastrophic Hurricane Sandy.

The exhibition touched me – not only was I in awe by all the tiny details and the obvious love and work in putting it all together- it also made me think, feel, and smell (the rafting boats made out of garbage and that had concurred some international rivers, left some traces ocean smell in the exhibition).

I wanted to live in this place. It was beautiful and calm.

Where ever you looked you saw tiny pieces of repurposed every day materials into pieces of art.

The drawings and colors – strong and breathtaking . It was an exhibition that made you want to explore, to stay there forever, to lay down on the floor, to just let it work it’s magic.

I am sad the exhibition is over and not there to go back- but it makes me happy to know that the rafts found a final resting place in a forest. What a beautiful idea.
