Wouldn’t it be Wonderful…or Inspired by Paper

As mentioned in my post about my workshops in Sweden, I found K-Designs who creates some beautiful papers. So I was looking forward to start playing with them and I was actually inspired to create this layout by the design of the paper.

NathalieKalbach_wouldntit01

The photo shows my grandmother who I never had the chance to meet. She suffered from depressions and she committed suicide when my mother was only 10 years old. I often think “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could spent time together?” as to what my great-aunt Margot,  her sister, tells me she was a wonderful person.

NathalieKalbach_wouldntit02

I loved the black and grey paper which gives so much possibility to add paint to it. I used a couple different LuminArte Silks on the background as well as Twinkling H2Os. The Silks are Acrylic Glazes with a wonderful shine and they create a gorgeous resist . I also used the Silks on the window frame. The vase that you see on the right hand corner, is actually one of the molds that I created in this video about How To Create Your Own Molds. The bottle was actually white resin and so I added some Embossing Ink and used Stampendious Embossing Powder to make it work with the layout. I love the result.

NathalieKalbach_wouldntit03

I loved creating this – even thought the topic made me feel a bit blue…well at least I spent some time with her, right? ;)

Huge hugs and have an amazing day

Nat

In some way I think that your Great Aunt Margot “replaced” a Grandmother.
Well, not replaced but stepped in for…what a nice way to spend some time with your Grandmother. It took some courage to share that story as well. The colors are gorgeous.

Breathe in the Chaos or..From Quote to Artjournal

I know I showed the quote before…but I want to show it to you again, now used in an art journal page.

NathalieKalbach_Parachute

Other than that this quote needs to be my constant reminder right now- LOL – I guess I should turn it into an art journal page too.

NathalieKalbach_Breathe

What quote should you use as a note to yourself right now?

Huge hugs and have an amazing day

Yes, I Can or…Yes, I can

Sometimes it is good to affirm yourself with a little tongue in cheek approach ;)..besides the title is meant to be true ;)

YesICan01

Pretty big canvas I worked on – at least for me and it was a bit hard to adjust…I think a bigger me would have been better design wise – but for my first time working on such a scale I am ok with it ;) …because yes I can…hehehe.

YesICan02

So many things are on my plate right now- in my professional life and my private life…it is good to do something for fun and tell myself that I can do it.

YesICan03

And now it is dooming off my studio wall as a constant reminder…hope it doesn’t fall of the wall- LOL ;)

YesICan04

Have a gorgeous day and don’t forget …YES, YOU CAN!

Nat

Announcement: ArtFusion in The Netherlands Changes of Location and Date

We Heard You!!

Yes, we did! On our announcement of the Artfusion Event we planned we got a lot of comments about the location. Many of you asked us why we didn’t plan it somewhere in the middle of the Netherlands. It would be easier for you to get there and it would also increase the travel distance/time for a lot of you. Also we heard that April was already so full of events and stuff.
And we agree! So we decided to postpone the event and find a better location. We think we found the perfect place!

Artfusion will now take place June 15-16 in the middle of the lovely city of Utrecht. Being a big railways junction in the Netherlands and only 45 minutes by train from Schiphol airport we think Utrecht is one of the best places we could have chosen.

The facility (Kade Ateliers) is a canal house at the Leidsekade 17, near the center of Utrecht where we have the availability of 2 lovely, light rooms. As we see it, we have all the ingredients for an amazing creative weekend on hand here.

Here are some pictures of the location:

We also made some changes in the workshops. You will find the schedule, the workshops and prices below:

SATURDAY, JUNE 15:

9.30 – 13.00 – Season Canvas Workshop by Nathalie Kalbach

In this Workshop with Nathalie Kalbach, you will create a stunning and unique canvas that will be a wonderful home décor item.

Learn how to create dimension and texture with tissue paper, items of daily life, acrylic paint, lace, burlap, and gesso.

Learn how to reveal the interesting and eye-catching texture with acrylic paints and acrylic inks and add some fun stamping techniques on top.

We will be adding lots of layers and dimension to make this a spring, summer, fall or winter canvas… just as you like. All the techniques can easily be applied to future projects.

14.00 – 17.30 Embossing and Beyond Mini Album Workshop by Birgit Koopsen

Weckruf (Wake-Up Call) or…A FAST Forward Making off a Canvas

The image of this window with some landmarks of Hamburg kept coming up when I was sketching things in my art journal and on my iPad. So I figured it was time to finally just put it on a canvas.

A Good Day or…Spring Texture Canvas

EasterCanvas_NatKalbach02

It was time to get some spring feeling into the house. Outside a constant freezing cold breeze alternating with snow flakes make it hard to believe that I am on track with the right date. I might have missed something…probably spring was just postponed this year ;)

I had a lot of fun playing around with some stuff I had at hands though…so that made up for the weather.

EasterCanvas_NatKalbach03

A different kind of texture…making me happy..I am just a dork when it comes to texture- LOL

Used: Liquitex Professional Spray Paints, Liquitex Acrylic Paints, Liquitex Professional Paint Markers, Liquitex Gel Medium, Signo Pen, Birch Panel, Norwegian Reindeer Moss, Eggs, Feathers, Branch

I am ready dear spring…VERY ready…

Workshops at J.P. Morgan in Luxembourg

Last weekend I had the pleasure to teach 3 workshops at J.P. Morgan in Luxembourg. I was invited by the Social Committee and it was so much fun. It was an amazing crowd of people- very international and with lot’s of languages involved. I was sticking to my two- English and German…my attempt to learn Luxembourgish was poor ;)

Luxembourg01_NatKalbach

We had a really great room…the canteen- which was PERFECT for a workshop – lot’s of light, lot’s of tables, lot’s space, lot’s of yummie snacks ;)

Luxembourg02_NatKalbach

The first class was my Yawp PanPastel Class on Saturday afternoon and we dabbled into a lot of techniques and the students loved playing with the different yummie colors and techniques.

Luxembourg03_NatKalbach

Luxembourg05_NatKalbach

Luxembourg06_NatKalbach

Luxembourg07_NatKalbach

Heating guns were used in wild west style to get the techniques rolling ;)

Luxembourg08_NatKalbach

Sunday morning I taught the Über*Media Acrylic Paint Class first. We covered lots of techniques and made a big pile of background pages for art journals. Not many pictures here- obviously I forgot to take pictures

Luxembourg09_NatKalbach

Luxembourg10_NatKalbach

Next up was the Season /Texture Canvas Class. It was awesome. Most of the students never worked with Acrylic Paints..some even stated to never have held a paint brush in their hand (hard to believe- I know) and they had so much creative fun!

Everyone was very open to try out things, but the best was…they had no finished picture in their head when they started, which made them more open to try new things – I loved that.

So we had a little Monet inspiration going on here

Luxembourg12_NatKalbach

and some Pearl Jam inspired texture galore here

Luxembourg13_NatKalbach

and some rainbow light fun here

Luxembourg14_NatKalbach

and awesome texture flower bouquet inspiration here

Luxembourg15_NatKalbach

some real awesome flower application/transformation here

Luxembourg17_NatKalbach

beautiful text textured flowers here

Luxembourg18_NatKalbach

and a whimsical flower spin here

Luxembourg19_NatKalbach

Here is a group shot with the happy ladies- some had to leave earlier- so there is a lot missing on the photo

Luxembourg20_NatKalbach

Thank you so much everyone who took the classes- it was a wonderful weekend with you and you inspired me a lot too :)

Thank you also to the J.P. Morgan Social Committee for inviting me and to Lydia for inviting me to her home and taking more than good care of me ! You are fab!

I will show you some of my sightseeing pictures in Luxembourg next…what a beautiful little country!

BTW – if you are interested in having me come and teach at your event, store or for a certain private or company group – please feel free to contact me !

You can also check out my In -Person Workshops here and see if I am close soon to where you live or check out my Online Workshops here to take classes whenever you want.

Have a gorgeous day

Stockholm Scrap and Pearl Event – April 6-7, 2013

So happy to announce that I will teach at the Stockholm Scrap and Pearl Event in Sweden.

It is a Scrapbooking and Jewelry Making Convention, wheret 1,000 crafters can be seated each day!

The place is nothing less than the Annex at the Globen Arena. So excited. I will teach 3 Prima workshops

April Saturday 6: Portrait of a Lady

Always wanted to learn how to draw a portrait? Join Nathalie Kalbach in this fun DIN A4/Lettersized Canvas Workshop and learn how to draw a portrait in a short period of time. You create a Portrait in your favorite colors and make it a one of a kind home decor item either for yourself or as a beautiful gift.  Furthermore you will learn heaps of Mixed Media techniques with gesso like: how to create a background, add texture, stamp, paint and use it for altering. Learn how to use fun fine art paint media like the Derwent Artbars, how to layer and tie elements together and explore how to change up embellishments and make them fit your unique piece of art. And the best? All the techniques can be used easily in future Mixed Media and in Scrapbooking Projects.

April Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 (this class on Sunday is fully booked) : Be Awesome Be a Book Nut

Dr. Seuss knew it: there is something magic about books. Each book is a beauty in and of itself – a story that leads you into a new world of fantasy. Books also have a feeling of importance to them, such as with a fabric coated hard cover or just the paper itself.

But sometimes a book loses its fascination and ends up at a flea market or at the back of your bookshelf never be opened again. Why not breathe life back into those books again and fill them with your own stories? You can alter them in a way that these treasures bring unique joy back.

Nathalie Kalbach will show you how to create either a funky or a simple style altered book. You will learn beautiful folding techniques, such as ways to create pockets for treasures or hidden messages that go along with your story. You will learn how to use adhesive in unexpected  ways and learn fun embossing techniques. Accompanied by beautiful Prima paper, flowers and stamps, this book will be a personal keepsake or a special present to a loved one. What’s more, it can function not only as a mini album but also as a home decor item.

You can sign up here. I would love to see you :)

Have a wonderful day

Hugs
