Raiders of the Lost Stash – Josefine Fouarge

Happy Tuesday from the Creative Squad! Today we have a cool upcycled jewelry box – something I know we all have in a drawer or closet somewhere just waiting for a new life – from Josefine Fouarge. Josefine is using my Beacon and Mini Toledo foam stamps, my Love Tag rubber stamp, and this month’s theme: Raiders of the Lost Stash – It’s time to raid your stash of art making stuff. Pick a few things you’ve tucked away for later and use them NOW. Maybe you have some leftover scraps or deli papers that you couldn’t bear to part with. Maybe you’ve squirreled away a new product that you’ve been meaning to try. The time is now! Raid your stash and try it :)

Wow, what a topic. I knew that I have a lot of “lost stash” but because we are renovating our house, there is even more that has come back to the surface. So, over the last weeks, I put aside a some of those lost items, thinking that they would be perfect for this theme – and I’m telling you, that stash was a hodge podge of stuff ;)

I really like this topic though. It gets you digging and you find some really neat things. For my project for the “Raiders of the lost stash” theme, I decorated a jewelry box. My idea was to do some paint pouring and then add a few of the little items all over it. Because paint pouring is so fun to watch and because I already knew that the decorating part would be a hot mess, I recorded everything. That probably makes it a lot easier to follow the process.

You might have seen more than two hands during the pouring process. These were my husband’s hands. He got into paint pouring a few months backs and we wanted to try the new Ranger pouring medium together. Everything afterwards is just me :)

As you can see in the close ups, the embossing powder melted beautifully and helped with creating a fuzzy outline of Nathalie’s Mini Toledo stamp. This way it looks old, as if this box has been through a tough time.

I also like the subtle pattern that the Toledo stamp left on the wood pieces. It looks like there is something going on, but only with a close look you get an idea of the pattern.

The “lost” gel print perfectly fits as a centerpiece in the middle of the jewelry box. It’s the right amount of contrast and different patterns to add to the entire look. I love contrasts and the entire box is a big contrast of everything.

I kept the bottom part simple though. At the end, you don’t see it as much and because of the pouring medium, it was already difficult to close the lids. So, I simply stamped the negative Beacon stamp all over it using a contrasting color.

I hope you enjoyed my little experiment. Don’t forget to look through your own drawers and boxes, I bet you have some amazing decorative pieces, leftover scraps, paints, pens and more laying around that just want to be tested and played with.

Thank you Josefine – I love watching you play in your video (and hubby too – so cool he was interested in trying out the pouring medium)! Here are some supplies that Josefine used and for my foam stamps and rubber stamps, be sure to stop by my online shop.

Workshop at Nat’s Place – Transfer, Trace, Transform Art Journaling Oct. 13

Come to my place for the day!

I’m super excited to announce that I will be teaching an extra special workshop right here in my home in Jersey City, NJ on October 13th, 2018! I invite you to my home for the full day Transfer, Trace, Transform art journaling workshop.

Join me for a fun day of exploring different ways to trace and transfer images into your art journal pages. The imperfect look of transferred photos can serve either as a building block of your layering process or as a stand alone focal point of a page. Tracing techniques provide just as many creative choices, and we’ll learn loose tracing techniques based on different image sources to give you a variety of options for your art journaling. Not only are there many ways to actually transfer or trace images, there are also many ways to transform those images in your art journal into something personal and unique.

AND we’ll do it all in my home in Jersey City, NJ so you can bet it will be a one-of-a-kind experience, with new friends and old, and lots of laughs :)

Space is extremely limited, sign up today!

Reveal Less – Art Journal

The less you reveal the more people can wonder :)

I wanted to try how it looks when I use the mini Beacon Foam Stamp from the Mini Tile Set and the normal sized Beacon Foam Stampon top of each other – and I am in Love :)

I like it :)

You can get your own stamps in my store and explore even more possibilities with them:

Paper Clay Magnets with Rubber Stamps – DIY Play Date

For our monthly play date, Kim and I wanted to show another great way to use rubber stamps – to make an impression in paper clay!

We thought my new Large Circle Jumble and Small Circle Jumble sets would be a nice shape and size for some magnets. Our plan: to stamp into the clay, paint them with some acrylic paint, and attach magnets to the back for the refrigerator, bulletin board, wherever magnets will stick.

Paper clay is fun and easy to work with and is air dry so you don’t even need to turn on an oven. Here we chose the Circle Drive stamp from the Large Circle Jumble set, and flattened out some clay on a non stick surface to about 1/8-1/4″ thick and big enough to fit the design.

Time to stamp!

Press the stamp evenly into the surface, making sure to cover the whole design with pressure.

Really press it in there!

Then we cut around the stamp using a knife and the edge of the stamp as a guide. Work over a cutting mat and watch your fingers :)

Trim all the way around the stamp and pull away the excess clay. You can save the extra for later use.

Gently lift the edge of the stamp to reveal the impression.

Here is the big reveal and a great impression in the clay!

We tried almost every design from both the Large Circle Jumble set and the Small Circle Jumble set. Follow the directions on your paper clay package for drying times. Ours took a few days to completely dry before we could move to the next step.

Once the clay is completely dry, you can use a sanding block to smooth down the edges. Be gentle!

Now it’s time to assemble some acrylic paint and fine brushes for the detailed painting.

The Valley Road stamp from the Small Circle Jumble set looks so cute!

Here is the Broadway stamp from the Large Circle Jumble set getting some paint on the design.

And here is from the Park Blvd from the Large set…

…with different orange colors to bring out the design.

It takes a little patience to paint them but it was fun to spend the morning chatting and painting with a friend :)

When the pain was dry, we cut our magnetic tape into squares and put it on the back of each magnet.

Here are the finished paper clay magnets with rubber stamped designs.

And in action holding up some cards and such! Here are some of the supplies that we used for this project:

Better Person – Art Journal

I truly am a better person in summer :) 100%

For this spread I had fun using my new Mini Hex Set. It is soooo cute …in summer, fall,  winter …you get the picture ;)

What I love about foam stamps is that you can use them with acrylic paint and furthermore- depending on what paint you use, the texture you can create with them.

I used all the stamps in the set – but of course you can also make awesome pattern with just using one of them repeatedly.

What is your favorite season?

Raiders of the Lost Stash – Tania Ahmed

Hello and welcome to a new theme from the Creative Squad! Today we have Tania Ahmed with us to share an adorable project with us using a mini birdhouse bank she had tucked away in her stash. She is also using my Clam Hex and Exchange Place foam stamps and this month’s theme: Raiders of the Lost Stash – It’s time to raid your stash of art making stuff. Pick a few things you’ve tucked away for later and use them NOW. Maybe you have some leftover scraps or deli papers that you couldn’t bear to part with. Maybe you’ve squirreled away a new product that you’ve been meaning to try. The time is now! Raid your stash and try it :)

This month we were challenged to use some of the newer ArtFoamies and some of the earlier releases! We were also encouraged to dig things out of our stash that we had been hoarding. So I fished out a birdhouse that I had been saving to alter.

I started by painting the birdhouse with white acrylic paint.

Luckily for me, the Exchange Place ArtFoamie stamp fit perfectly under the roof of the bird house! I brayered Opera Rose paint on to the stamp to get an even coating and stamped all the sides of the bird house.

I then stamped the Clam Hex ArtFoamie on the roof.

After drying the paint I inked all the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

To finish the project I added some metal trinkets I had in my supplies and added word sticker.

Thank you very much for popping by and reading my post!

Thank you Tania! I love that cute little birdhouse bank – looks like the perfect place to collect some cash for funding future dreams :) In addition to her wood birdhouse bank, here are some of the supplies that Tania used:

Empowering Art Journal Spread

It’s so empowering to say “this isn’t serving me” and walk away…as long as you are not a meany about it.

Ha- LOL- this spread is all over the place …but it was fun to play around. I also used my new Amsterdam Foam Stamps – small and big :)

This spread started as a demo page in one of my workshops and I think the lady sketched in green just didn’t really do it for me …but heck …you know ….it is not always about a masterpiece it is also about just trying things and playing. And I also think it is about being kind to yourself – why beating yourself up for something that is supposed to be fun and loose and bring you joy.

Alas: I do love the color combination and the background with the houses and the Amsterdam pattern. There…much better ;)

Here are the supplies I used besides acrylic paints

Currently Digging – August 2018 AIT

Once in a while I thought I would share with you some nifty finds – like an Artist who’s work caught my eye…, some Inspiration or the what, when and where that caught my eye and got my creative juices flowing, and Tools & Techniques I am currently digging like a new way to use a material or an application that I’m taking away. Hope you enjoy this.

I am taking a watercolor class and my teacher told us in the first lesson to check out John Singer Sargent’s watercolor paintings.

John Singer Sargent, The Bridge of Sighs, c. 1903–04

I loved his work before but looking closer of his works with watercolors just made me swoon. Look at the wonderful light and the movement in his figures. Check out his watercolors – Gorgeous!

YOU :) I love showing some old finds on my instagram story while decluttering my studio and asking you what I should do with certain things I have been storing forever. Recently I showed an old silver cigarette case and you came up with so many fun ideas.

A lot of them were art supply storing ideas and I will show you soon which art supply I will actually store in it. Tip…it won’t be what is in the picture- LOL

As I am working on different Pattern Books for my stencils I have rediscovered my love for spray paints yet again.

I do have some low odor acrylic spray paints and it is such an easy and fast way to create patterns with stencils. Now that I have a bit more space again on my workbench and right in front of the window it is the perfect time to get those yummie spray cans out again.

What are you currently digging? See you soon again with some new finds!
