Hope Tag

Love making tags that I can use for gifts or just as card to give to someone. For this I tag I used the Cardboard Stamp Set

and stamped with archival ink on the the tag, then used acrylic paints and scraped them over the tag. I like when the stamped images are part of the background

I stamped the Hope Tag Stamp on top of some left over raw canvas and then fringed out the edges and applied it with Gel Medium to the tag.

I usually ink up the cling stamps and press them not perfectly onto the background to get bits and pieces of the imagine blending into each other onto the background.

Get Real Girl – Art Journal

Art Journal Liquitex Professional Spraypaints Stencil Stencil Girl Products

This was a little reminder for me at the time I created this art journal spread. It worked ;)

The background of the art journal spread was ugly from some scraped of left over paint – but a stencil like the Granada Stencil is the perfect stencil to work on such a background and make it work. I layered it on top of the background and then used different colors of spraypaint in different areas of the stencil.

I love to scratch into the still wet acrylic spray paint too as it gives such a nice texture.

Awe- spray paint- you make me happy.

Shoot for the Moon – Art Journal Page

Art Journal Embroidery RubberMoon Stamps

For this quick art journal spread I stamped some of the Embroidery Stamps onto the blank background and then painted over the background, alternating between a thin transparent layer and an opaque purple layer. I stamped again on top of the dried paint with different stamps and archival ink. For the border I used the Satin Stamp – it is a great border stamp.

I used the Chain Link stamp to create pattern on the magazine image dress.

For the journaling I used a fude pen in black and then wrote on top of it in white with a signo pen. I love stamping and covering up – repeating – the process – as I feel it makes it more interesting if you don’t know where a stamp was applied or how.

Love this journal page! I’m participating in the #ArtMarks30DayChallenge with Rae Missigman and am loving working in my journal each day. I really haven’t made time enough to do that in the past so one of my 2017 resolutions is to get more journaling in. Love your work. You are an inspiration, Nathalie!

1.25.2016 – Painting

I haven’t shown this painting yet which I did last year. It depicts a moment at the beginning of the big snow blizzard in January 2016. I stept outside the door to take a quick photo. The light was just amazing and I had to capture that moment in a painting. I used acrylic paints, markers and charcoal. It is one of my favorite paintings I did last year – the only way I like winter …in a painting ;)

Focus Baby, Focus! – Art Journal

jaja jaaja – I knooooooww- but it is so hard to focus , isn’t it? LOL.

I used my new Mesa Verde 9×12 Stencil and sprayed with read acrylic spray paint over a previously painted background.

I painted over a magazine image with acrylic paints and used some pencil and pens on top.

Love the pattern – it makes me want to travel now, forget focus I guess ;)

Oh! You know what… I have that spray paint. And I still haven’t used it! I also have some ugly painted backgrounds in my art journal… I think I know what to do with those now! ;-)

Dream a New Dream – Marsha Valk

Happy Creative Squad Tuesday! Today Marsha Valk is sharing a beautiful and bright art journal spread using my Santa Fe Positive and Negative Foam Stamp set, my Batik Stencil, and her unique take on this month’s theme: Dream a New Dream. This January, let’s focus on all the possibilities of a fresh start. What are your dreams for this year? Whether it’s art-making, family, travel, or work related, January is a great time to dream about what the future could hold.

I am not a dreamer. I mean: I definitely am a dreamer… but the zone-out, lost-in-thoughts kind, not a big-plans-for-the-future one!

I do plan for the year ahead, but I do that at the end of December and I’m usually all set and ready to go in January. This year I’m not quite that organised, but… January is already well on the way now and whilst I was creating my journal page, I kept thinking ‘dream’, but… my gut kept saying ‘no’. So even though I wanted the page to be about dreaming, it ended up about ‘not dreaming’.

I am excited about what the new year holds though and I chose to work with greens, because I’m super stoked about the Pantone colour for 2017: Greenery!

Such a wonderful take on the theme Marsha, and I love how you mixed the patterns of the Batik Stencil with the Santa Fe Foam Stamp – so gorgeous. Now I just want to move on to Spring ;)

Stroll Through Hood Wallhanger

Ampersand RubberMoon Stamps

I wanted to create something for my studio wall and played around with some of my favorite art tools at the moment :) I painted a grey cardboard with a mix of gesso, grey and blue. After the cardboard dried, I stamped with different inkpads and with some of my Embroidery Stamps as well as with the Star Stamp on top of it.

I took some different Ampersand Scratchboards or also called Clayboards (depending on where you look for them) and using a cosmetic sponge I dabbed on different colors of acrylic ink. I love the texture the sponge creates and how vibrant the inks pop up from the clayboards. After the inks dried I stamped with some of my Stroll Through the Hood stamps and Staz on on top. I waited a couple minutes to make sure all was dry and then used the Ampersand scratching tools following the lines of the stamps – sometimes offset – and scratched lightly to reveal the white clay surface underneath again. This is so much fun to do – and very addicting!

I mounted the Ampersand boards on top of the cardboard with some Gel Medium and then splattered some acrylic paint over all of this to tie everything together …and because I love splattering – after working so tightly on the scratching I need to let go a bit again ;)

I love how this came out – and I am already thinking of other possibilities with those clayboards.

My wonderful friend Jodi Ohl wrote this inspiring book Abstracts in Acrylic & Ink and it is stuffed with loads of great techniques, tricks and inspiration. In Jodi’s own words it “is a book about learning how to unfold, learn, grow, expand, experiment and experience a dialogue with art.”

The artwork and step outs are beautifully photographed and definitely make you wanna go into your studio and play yourself.

I love Jodi’s concept of experiencing a dialogue with art! I think it’s a good way to approach an art journal page – rather than trying to complete a perfect piece of art from the outset, I’ll just say to myself “now I am going to have a dialogue with art” and see what happens!
